As requested here is a full Vlog style video of the whole trip. If you enjoy this type of video and if people find the video helpful please let me know. If you have watched the 2 fishing videos some of this footage you will have seen before. Best wishes everyone. 🏴👍🏻🎣😊
Please where in Scotland did you launch the boat and fish?
Hi John I caught.my PB Tope out of there our club only had one trip out from the port and it was the last day that the charter boat was going to be fishing out of there and in all the time that the boat had been fishing from there my tope was the 1st and only tope every caught on the boat
Great video John, personally like the Vlog Style and i recon it will help a few that are new. Just things like you feeling for heat from bearings etc great fishing as always to 👍

Please don’t alter your content too much. You offer a great untainted experience. Reality and great knowledge shared honestly and professionally! I wish you and your family well. PS I haven’t fished for 20 yrs 😮
You are an absolute gentleman. Everything about the way you conduct yourself is just right. Great video. Thank you.
I don’t pretend to get it right all the time, I just do my best. 🎣😊
@@TheFishLocker your best is better than most, rest assured. You are a pleasure to watch as are your family.😊
Them baits are mental sizes, but so are the fish. Well done on condensing what must have been a hell of a trip into watchable videos, I loved them all. Looking forward to you and the family's adventures this year John.
I’m glad you enjoyed joining us.
Great to see our fishing in Scotland highlighted by you guys, absolute quality, thanks for sharing.
It’s a stunning place. 🎣👍🏻
I have to agree. Great work. Welcome to Scotland and i hope you come back time and time again 🏴🏴
We always enjoy every time we visit Scotland. 😊💙
@@TheFishLocker❤
Full vlog videos are great to watch. Even better when the videos absolute class 🥃👍🏴
Thank you.
Its a hell of a drive
That it is!!
John, it seems, from the skate catch you and Chris had, that there are an abundance of males. They are interesting creatures. Glad you made it home safely. 🎉🎉🎉
They are the same with smaller skates in Cornwall. The smaller males are more active and aggressive feeders.
That's a mighty Trek!! But we'll worth it by the looks of things ! Thanks for sharing it with us John 👍🏴😉
We had a great trip.
I will never again complain about my 11 mile drive from sheilds to seaham for fishing...excellent john cheers marra all the very best 👍
Haha. It was further for me to collect the bait!!
I’m so pleased you went ahead and put this together John, very good content, and just shows how much effort went into this trip, and much more that wasn’t on camera I should imagine. Appreciate your big effort on this one mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Aye mate. Lots goes on that folks don’t get to see. Problem solving and prep work. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I'm from Guernsey, 4 miles by 9 ish and everything is a 20 min drive away, the thought of a 12+hr drive across country to go fishing is crazy.
Haha. Well I never said we were sane individuals 🤪
You can really stretch it out if you go from beaucette to the fairy ring maybe get to 35-40mins
😂😂@@benlepoidevin7047 especially if the Lycra cyclist gang are along the coast.
Haven't been back to Scotland in about 15 years (I live in Australia now) but that first few seconds of footage on the water in the morning brought a tear to my eye. Spectacular. Great stuff, John.
Stunning place isn’t it.
The fishing in Australia is a thousand times better
What an trip some brilliant fishing there, a good way to keep warm those skate seam like thay was coming for a clean up off the sea leaches. That was some big baits quite amazing to see
Those Wray are unbelievable. Great stuff John and friend. 👏👏👌
Cheers Andy. 👍🏻🎣
What a Journey /fishing trip, some great footage of the big Skates!, another class video, you and Chris did a great job John, such freezing conditions to. Brilliant. 👍👀.
Glad you enjoyed the trip mate. Let’s see what else we can get up to. 😉🎣
Always been a dream of mine since watching Paul Youngs hooked on Scotland series and the deep sea episode, then following that John Wilson skate fishing with his daughter ...just amazing 👍
His daughter beat him on that trip didn’t she.haha. I remember both of those videos too.
Nice one. What a mission. I've never seen a check on the trailer bearings with the back of the hand before. Brilliant idea.
It’s the same as when checking a door handle in fire training. Always use the back of your hand incase it’s hot.
I admire your guts John to travel that distance in that sort of weather theirs not much more to say than that was fantastic nice to be back 😅😅😅😅
I’m not one to shy away from a challenge. If it was easy everyone would do it. 😉🤣
Hi John me and my son use to go to Oban fishing with Ronny Campbell for the skate great memories that was 28 Years ago. Love watching your videos take care keep them coming.
I’ve never met Ronnie but I hear good things. 👍🏻🎣
wow very smooth boat
Thank you.
Fabulous video. Thanks so much. Stuck indoors with Covid; happy to share vicariously with your trip!
Oh dear. I hope you are feeling better soon Nicola. 💙
Welcome to our beautiful country. Hope you come back for some more fishing 🎣. Tight lines from Bonnie Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
We will certainly be back when the weather is warmer. 🤣🥶
Great video. You guys overcame a lot of adversity and challenging conditions. I have experience trailering long distances and like you said, it's not easy. That icey , narrow boat launch had me cringing, but you got the boat launched safely, True professionals. If you're ever in the states (Long Island, New York area) you can come out fishing with me anytime.
I would like that. Thank you for the offer. 👍🏻🎣
Hiya John many thanks for the video they were magnificent fish 😊I don't think that I could have coped with fish of that size, I don't go fishing much anymore as old age seems to have set in 77 isn't a bad time of life but just a little fresh water fishing is about my lot now but please don't stop the videos I love them cheers ttfn 😊
If I reach that age I think I will feel the same. 😉
Thanks John/Chris, bit of a journey but well worth it to see the size of those Skate. Wonderful fish. My you that conger was a bit of a beast!!! Nice to see the doggies getting their comeuppance lol. Glad you had a safe return no thanks to the weather. All the very best Graham.
Thanks mate. 👍🏻🎣
When I saw the size of the bait and hook at timestamp 6:04 I was like "OMG you tryna catch a plesiosaur!!"
Pretty much. 🤣👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker seeing your bait being so large you'd be thrilled to catch one as a target fish, I was immediately convinced that your first catch was definitely going to be a dogfish. Is it bad that I was disappointed when an impressive skate appeared? I don't wish you bad fortune but catching a dogfish would have been comic perfection.
Hiya John and Chris, another good video as always, hopefully plenty more in 2024. 👍
Thanks David.
Really nice to see ( sea ) you out again . Tight lines !
Thanks John.
They have to be relieved to have those suckers removed. Thanks for the adventure!
I like to think so. Imagine how itchy and niggly it must be having them chewing on you constantly with no way of getting them off!!
@@TheFishLocker this is the single thing I focus on when thinking of the innumerable animal parasites. Across the entire planet it is only us humans who can remove them all, sure there are cleaner fish and chimpanzees eat them off each others backs' but that only covers those above the surface. Think about scabies with humans, notoriously itchy and burrowing under the skin, good luck trying to pull them out. Or thread worms which I have only had once decades ago as a child, I still remember the intolerable itchiness centre of my arse. Worse still they became active at night, right as your trying to sleep they make it abundantly clear they're fully awake. A single tablet and they're all dead, problem sorted.
People romanticise the idea of being some other animal and the freedom it represents, all I can imagine is unending constant itchiness that you are utterly helpless to stop.
Brilliant vid & some nice skate as well, I enjoy your vids as informative n enjoyable 🎣🎣🎣
Thank you very much Mick. 👍🏻
Iam coming down cornwall in September for holiday maybe we could have day out I've got lure rods to use & don't mind paying my way 👍🎣👍🎣👍
Happy new year 2024 is going to be your year keep on fishing and be safe paul
Thanks Paul.
John this is why I watch your channel. Nuff said.
Thank you.
John, I think I watch all of your vlogs at least twice and to date I’ve not missed one in all of the years, your content is superb and so educational. That was a hell of a trip and thankfully you had a mate to share the journey.
You and Chris are top rods and well suited to at least some other vlogs. Thanks for coming to Scotland , catching and returning for others to do the same.
Keep up the good work.
I did the driving but it was a massive help having someone else there with me just to talk to and keep me focused. 👍🏻🎣
Great adventure. As always any day fishing beats a day in the office. Cheers from northern Arizona USA
Best wishes and take care. 👍🏻🎣
Awesome content mate Thanks for sharing.
Any time bud. 👍🏻🎣
Fishing like that makes the hours of driving worth while. I had my best trip ever in Cornwall last year. What was your best ever trip
Those special trips allways make it worth while 🎣👍🏻
You’re a brave man doing all those miles towing. Well done and some amazing fish too happy days 😊😊😊
If it was easy everyone would do it. 😉🎣
More of the same, interesting and different.
Happy new Year
All the best for You and Your family. This is one of my favorite fishing channels.
Thanks for Your good work
Thank you very much. 🎣👍🏻
A lot of fun, adventure and memories. Treasure them.
😊🎣
Great video very much enjoyed watching 🎣🎣🏴🏴👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Luke.
I am an avid fisherman from the GTA, Ontario Canada and sometimes do go out in theseconditions here at the Kawartha Lakes in October to November and mainly going after pickerels/walleyes and muskies. Not good fishing conditions when it is that cold esp when the winds are blowing. I am quite intriqued as you did mentioned previously that your boat was less then 17 ft long and you are quite brave to go out into these open waters esp the seas outside Cornwall as I have been watching your youtube postings now the last 6 months and do admire your fishing skills and courage! Those fishing adventures in BC Canada were great to watch and you are lucky to have a family who enjoy your passion !
Thank you very much. I do have quite a lot of experience on small boats and enjoy a challenge. 🎣👍🏻
Marvellous thank you John. Did a skate run to Clew Bay Ireland . It had such an effect on me I still think of it very , very often, even though it was 20 + years ago. We caught the dogfish first for bait and could only estimate the weight from the skippers experience as they were all released still in the water. It was a week later my burning muscles got back to normal .HNY . 😂
They do grow big!!
I few of us went to Inverary way back in the late 70s and had a charter boat for a few days. Although the trip was great and we seen basking sharks etc. The skipper wasn't very helpful so we didn't catch much. Not been back since as we didn't have our own boats. Some stunning rays you had there and I take it, that made the trip worthwhile,
Catching fish always makes a trip worthwhile. 😉👍🏻
One word. Superb John.
Well done both of you with the fish landed and my thanks to you both for a crackin' video. Happy New Year to both of you - and to all the family John.
Glad you enjoyed joining us again Mike. 🎣👍🏻
Thanks for visiting bro 🏴💙
No problem 👍
These videos are brilliant, and there is so much information. Thank you.
It is my pleasure Dave. Best wishes and tight lines bud. 🎣👍🏻
Great video. Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it James.
Loved this Video.......Damn those Rays!!!!! Hoping to see a Cod or Halibut.
So were we, it was disappointing to learn there were no other species in the area. I am assuming this many big predatory skate have just eaten everything else.
Hats off to you mate, one hell of a journey. There's me thinking 3 hours is a trek 😂 he came, he saw, he conquered 🎣
I’m not rushing to do it again mate. 🤣🎣
@@TheFishLocker haha, i dont blame you mate 👍

Roll on spring though ay, poxy weather init 😁🤙

Stunner of a spot. 🎣👍🏻
Pretty country and epic fish. Great fun to watch!
Thank you kriss, have a great day. 😊
Well worth the haul of a journey up to Scotland for some Stunning sized skate.
really nice to see
Glad you enjoyed joining us mate.
perfect , thanks again , big fish there
My pleasure.
I really liked this video, very interesting to see how the whole trip unfolded. Thanks so much for all the work you put into creating amazing content. BEST CONTENT ON TH-cam. 👍👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸
Thank you very much Travis, it is my pleasure. 😉🎣👍🏻
Well done lads. That’s a long haul (no pun intended) 👍
😉👍🏻🎣
Mate that little VW Caddy is a beast I’ve watch almost every episode from Australia 👍👍👍
She’s a trooper isn’t she.
"Set to be a stunner of a day....See you on the boat!!" A bit too chilly for me....but I also know that a cold morning like that wakes up the senses and is quite invigorating!! I'm happy to be in my warm home, but also envious for the two of you!! What a great adventure!! Those skates are huge!! DIg, DmGrk
We were very fortunate with the conditions. 🎣👍🏻
Nice to see the full video and well done on the catches to both of you see you in the new year
See you later bud. 🎣👍🏻
Smashing upload John, thank you guys. Greetings from Cyprus, with coughs and a cold!! 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Great to hear from you again Jacqui.
John - I was glad you included your short bit about the use of the honesty box. I've used them before but was taught just to initial the corner of my payment, cash or receipts, just in case someone else tried to claim my payment action as their own. There are dishonest clowns on either side of the Pond. Have a safe and happy 2024 and keep the videos coming.
@@mstrdiver - There are dishonest people in every walk of life mate. 🤷🏻♂️
We used to get some huge ones trawling we always let them go beautiful fish
Stunning aren’t they.
I could not even think about travelling with the boat the distance you have gone ,
Mind you , a young lad, you can do anything when your young .well done,
Haha. Or at least you think you can. 😉🤣
that was some good fishing there in Scotland looked very cold and great catch
We had a brilliant trip. 👍🏻🎣
At least you weren’t half way there thinking “oh damn I’ve forgotten to pack….?” 😮🤣
An absolute pleasure to watch from start to finish Sir :) Massive thanks for sharing that epic trip !
Any time Robert. 😉👍🏻
Welcome to my beautiful country you’re the man to get the big fish ❤
Thanks John. Take it easy bud.
John, it's good to see you made it safely to Scotland! I think you took a big risk. Not once did I see you twang a tie-down strap and say "That's not going anywhere." Keep your head about you lad, and be safe! 😄
Haha. I did contemplate saying it on camera. 🤣
I thought you did a good job of taking care of the safety aspect of trailering the boat. You showed several times that you were checking that the wheel bearings were not overheating, checking tightness of the straps etc etc. A trailer breakdown is often caused by a wheel related issue, no wheel bearing maintenance or old cracked trailer tires failing.@@TheFishLocker
Brilliant adventure lads, welcome to the north! Smashed it again!
Cheers bud.
Cracking watch john, all the best from GRIMSBY
Thanks mate.
Fair play that’s an epic trip, not sure I would fancy that tow my nerves would be in bits
Haha. I don’t look forward to doing it again.
Great video John
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely brilliant. You must have passed nearby as you left the Glasgow area on the way home. It was good to see the Rest and Be Thankful
was open for you as if that had been closed you would have had a long diversion to get to Lochgilphead. Loved the Skates.
Aye fortunately we had a straight shot through.
And not a haggis in site!! 🙃Should've said you were coming up could've had one on the go for you. Lochgilphead is a cracking part of the West coast especially when it's shorts n t-shirt weather like you had. Glad you had a fruitful journey the general fishing at this time of year is a bit slow these days due to over fishing but can still throw up the odd specimen from time to time.
Another good one John tight lines and all the best for 2024. 👍✌
Aye mate. Considering the time of year I feel it was a productive trip. 👍🏻🎣🏴
Great video, those motorway drives are very draining.
Nice to see the check over of the trailer - including the bearing test.
Touch wood she towed really well.
Love the stevie nicks Fleetwood mac and the end of the video playing 😍
Perfect driving music.
Love it, great to see Giles smashing it out the park🔥🔥🔥
They’re wonderful aren’t they. 😊🎣👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker indeed, they have a lot to be proud of starting out in what is actually quite tough times in terms of pricing and business costs, I wish them every success. God knows they deserve it with their hard work and passion for the craft.
Them Skate look so majestic. I'd love to catch a small one for sure. Looks like your trip was well worth the bad weather.
It was well worth the effort.
I turned on the heat at home watching this video. Man you and Chris are crazy. Going out fishing in these arctic conditons, brrrr. Great seeing both of you catching humongus skates on likewise humongus baits. Some already seen previous, but stil thanks for the video and hope the next one will be in warmer times😊. Greetz from Stipo from Holland
It is our pleasure my friend. 😊🎣
It was nice to see the whole video and be able to realise how bad the weather was. There really must be hundreds of skate up there and I'm pleased to see a few dogfish. Bet you slept well the night after you got home!
Wouldn’t have been a session without a few doggies. 😉🤣
Another fantastic watch, well done both of you.
Thanks mate.
brilliant john
Thank you.
Very nice video my friend! I really enjoy watching and learning from you!!!
Thank you very much. 👍🏻🎣
Some journey that mate!!! Great video as always so glad can write comments again 👍🏻🎣🦞
Best wishes mate and have a great week. 👍🏻🎣
@TheFishLocker you too mate 👍🏻
Fair play that was a fantastic video
Thank you.
Great recap of the full journey. Ref the trailer light socket I wire a fixed female plug to the front of the trailer somewhere convenient then use a hgv curly suzi cable between the car and trailer. This means you can carry a spare cable in case you have an issue like dragging the plug.
Good tip mate. 👍🏻👍🏻
Oh and my other Edd China top tip, fit the plastic wheel nut pointers to the wheels on the trailer. If your bearings are getting hot or the brakes are dragging they melt, nice quick visual indicator, oh and also good for finding loose nuts.
As always a fantastic film! Cheers!
Thank you Steve.
Know the area well, and had to smile when I saw the size of the bait you were using. It was comparable to the size of the catch we would expect if you took the skate out of the equation 😅 . Hope you enjoyed it at least a little, regards to the family.
We had a great trip mate. Thank you. 🎣👍🏻
Catching more on my doorstep one hour drive . Ooft
Just getting after it.
Well this is bloody amazing!!!
😬🎣👍🏻
Fantastic video John totally enjoyed the video cracking fish well done 🐟🎣🐟🎣

Welcome to our channel. We do enjoy Scotland and have a few videos from there. 😊👍🏻
That wee floating pontoon is great when the makeral are in, can sit there and fill a bag with some decent size fish, I live in the last town just before you get to here, well done and I'm glad you enjoyed our area
It’s a wonderful area. 👍🏻🎣
Awesome. I am going to bed with a hot water bottle to thaw out and that's just after watching the video !!

Awesome video. I really enjoyed seeing y’all catch so many fish. Great job as usual.

fishing one of many locks in Scotland with amazing fishing .
Remember john 60mph towing max . Dont turn a trip catching giant skate into a giant fine for speeding.next time, take james for a memorable dad son trip
It’s just the angle of the camera from the passenger side mate. We won’t have been doing over 64mph max. 👍🏻
