  • Always fancied Filey Brigg as a good lure fishing spot, and with the weather dead still for the week and clear water, I took my chance to give it a go!

    Nice vid, reminds me of when I fished it only once ever 12 years back on hols. Amazing looking place, couldn't fail on lures. Bit more lively sea but not much more then a 3ft sea trout jumped in casting range after hrs of nothing. Same result as you after that moment of excitement. That green slippery death weed grows where fresh water outlets hit it, many times on my arse with tackle box emptied across the rocks as a kid ;-) thanks for posting!

      Aha, that sounds like the sort of thing I would do, John! I'm looking forward to fishing it again, in fact it may even be a good spot overnight for a winter cod or 2.

    Ayup Pal.Shame you blanked The brigg usualy throws something up,nice vid tho very 'down to earth' comentary :) . A wee safety tip for ya tho,,when accending or decending any ladders DO NOT hold the sides,if you lose your footing you will have no way of holding on , you will just slide down and rip your hands up ,,ALWAYS grab the rungs and you will be able to hold on in the event of any probs ..Take care buddy and tight lines.

      I know you mean we’ll, unfortunately you are completely wrong as you never hold the rungs on a ladder because if it breaks in your hands, you’re going down. Watch Fred Dibnar climbing up those huge ladders and you’ll notice that he never ever holds the rungs! I was a heating engineer and I climbed up ladders, some very high onto high roofs to drop flue liners down chimneys and I was taught never to hold the rungs😉

      I was always told to hold sides of wooden ladders because only 1 in 3 had a steel rid under them so if it snapped out only a 1 in 3 chance of a safety rod .
      Ps I still hate ladders walked back up the Brigg today .must keep telling myself don't look down.

What you did was; to experience, feel an understanding of risk (assess).... Accept and move on. Look back and recalibrate. Let it calm, take an alternate perspective. Challenge your previous acceptance... and try again. Self Talk is another pre-frontal cortex signal, it helps calm the reptilian 'Back Brain' from holding us in a Full Body Handcuff' (the wobbly knees etc), so well done on that. Respect mate. You did it. If ever you're near The Reach Climbing Wall, Woolwich... feel free to look me up. I'll set you up with a freebe, help you gain even more 'self confidence'. Some Thames fishing too; if you fancy... (and gotta admit, only caught an eel, my 'Bug Out' set up is light and seldom). Just a little bit further. m out

    I've never really suffered badly from heights.. but then I got tinnitus.. and now I get vertical and I was recently walking on saltburn pier in nearly had to crawl off it. Salt lamp peers not even high but if you have suffered from tinnitus and vertigo then you know how distressing it can be. My point being, I know exactly how you felt walking down those ladders.. the only way you conquer your fear of heights is to just defeat it. It takes a lot of courage to do something your body is telling you not to do... Only just subscribe to the channel and I'm enjoy it.. I will be staying around. This is my normal TH-cam but I also have a fishing TH-cam that I've just started myself.. I won't plug it. I used to fish a lot when I was a teenager now I'm nearly 50 and just got back into lure and spinner fishing and I absolutely go mad for it but I have forgotten more than I ever knew about fishing.. yes, that is possible😂 fishing is relaxing it's why I do it even if I blank out on fishing.... I'm still out there with nature and that's all that matters. I do a lot of sea fishing and a lot of river fishing in Yorkshire North Yorkshire and the lake District . Keep up the good work and I am sure your channel will grow. I will be sticking around.

    Hi mate, the plastics looks spot on, you have a nice range of colours. Bright days bright colours, dull days dull colours. I know that sounds backwards but it’s true.
    Once you’ve casted let the lure hit the bottom and work it as close to the bottom as possible, snags are few and far between of that hook is nicked into the back of the lure. But I’d strongly recommend letting it hit the bottom first before starting to reel.

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's a few ways to do it mate. Firstly, all my boxes have vent holes, to allow excess water to drain away. So after a session I'll rinse in fresh water and leave somewhere warm to dry. Some people wipe them dry after use, but if you're on a hot spot or swapping lures a lot that wastes time in my opinion. Some people keep used lures in a separate box until they're cleaned and dry, but that's extra stuff to carry around.
      Personally I don't think you will ever stop something corroding after you dunk them in salt water, so I always have fresh split rings and a mix of different sized trebles and if one looks a bit ropey I'll swap it out!

      Hey Callum! Lures should work well this time of year. I'd stick to simple metals and work different speeds/depths. Should be some good pollock around at depth and mackerel in the mid waters. If there are birds diving could be worth trying a surface popper for bass. But it's heavily populated with birds around that area so top water stuff could attract their attention too much.
      As always though, stay safe!! It's a venue where the swell can change at any minute, so make sure you have note of your escape routes and your gear is on your back or to hand to grab and go if necessary. No fish is worth the risk.

    Looks like the famous Black Hole mate unless I'm mistaken. Problem with lure fishing is that the pollack and mackerel are either there or not. I always had a float rod on the go, as well as the lures, with mussels as bait for the wrasse. Had some big ones. 4 or 5lb. And little pollack. But never blanked....except with the lure rod or when I used mackerel strip. I was broken by something huge once. Maybe a conger.

      @@theawfulangler I live on the north coast of Ireland, hello lol have you tried making your own soft plastic lures ,??? It's dead easy and means you only lose 10p if you get caught in the weeds lol some of the plastic lures are expensive enough,

      @theawfulangler  ปีที่แล้ว

      @rickybell2.056 I haven't! I struggle with time to go fishing so making my own gear isn't something I've played with much. To be honest I bought a bulk load of plastics off a guy who makes his own. And then usually keep my eye on the bargain buckets at tackle shops. Often there's a bag of plastic somethings in there for 50p or so 🤣

      I'm 100% with you on dusk and dawn! I do need to let go of the metals and work on using other stuff. I've got patchinkos etc but they always stay in the box as I default to the metals, they just cast better IMO.
