Fixing a GE Refrigerator Ice Dispensor

In this video we are repairing a GE refrigerator. The issues was the in door ice dispenser flap will not open causing the ice to back up in the ice chute and not come out the door.

My ice chute has been icing over for the last couple of months. I had to disassemble the ice compartment inside the door a few times to clear out the ice, but didn't fully understand where the moisture is coming from.... until now! That flapper is staying open because the plunger/solenoid is rusted. Thank God I saw this video as other videos have you remove the bezel & it might break! After I got the control panel off, it was easy peazy! Just took out the solenoid & flapper, cleaned/washed everything. I cleaned the solenoid plunger with steel wool & lubed it. Re-assembled. & go to go!

Was your auger still working? I’m having a similar issue auger doesn’t turn and the door doesn’t open. Auger motor had continuity so I know it’s not that.

To get my ice dispenser to work at all I have to lean against the freezer door. With enough force on the door all works well. Water dispenses without any problems. Any ideas?
