    In this video join me (and Joli) for a super long 2 hour plant chores video! I imported some plants recently and they've not all acclimated as planned, so some major plant rehabilitation is in order. There have been lots of plant to do's recently - repotting, watering, dusting, pruning, propagating, repotting, potting up and soooo much more. My plant chores have been getting on top slightly recently and I've been feeling a bit burnt out and overwhelmed by all my plant care. I talk about plant burnout in this video, and some of the things I do to stay motivated when it comes to caring for my houseplants. Thank you to everyone who asked questions, and I really hope you enjoy the video!

    This got me motivated to repot my polly from coarse soil ninja into coarse soil ninja but into a deeper tower pot. It was unstable, now it is potted deeper and more stable and can develop more roots higher up the stem wich now are submerged in the pon

    A question I've had is, can you use it with a wick then? I've been hesitant to use pon because I wasn't sure if you could. I have several self watering pots, but they all use a wick. I didn't know if it would have the same effect as it does in soil. (which is what I do now). Thanks ladies!

    Eh depending on how low you plant your plants you can lose leaves even in semihydro…there’s nothing wrong with putting moss around the aerials. They don’t always grow down into the substrate. I grow a ton in semihydro and have better luck with them growing down with the moss vs not. Also a little dirt doesn’t hurt the plants in the transfer. It’s the stress of transfer and the fact that you will lose roots trying to acclimate from one substrate to another. In other words, that little dirt at the bottom of the pot wouldn’t have killed your plant. Honestly you would wash it out in the reservoir or by top watering

      @pudik2008 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There could be a simple answer to that,as someone who speaks English as a second language,when I’m around Australians my accent isn’t noticeable,when I’m around ppl of my own language,my accent gets really strong. Emma did talk about that in a video and said her accent is stronger when she’s with Brits,don’t quote me.

    • @kittysparkleeyes
      @kittysparkleeyes 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don't think shes being inauthentic, shes lived in the uk several years so thats had an impact on her accent. When she's around other people the way she speaks is impacted by how they are speaking. Claire has a particularly rp british accent so no doubt that influences her. Its not uncommon to mirror how friends are speaking.

    • @TheJungleHaven
      @TheJungleHaven  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Emma's actually covered this in a video on her channel before. It's completely normal for people with accents to slip in and out of it depending on who they're around. Emma is also half American and half British, so it's perhaps picked up on a little bit more because she's been brought up hearing both 💚

      @GoodGrowing 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      hey, just wanted to hop in here and say what everyone here has said is correct, my accent does change a lot depending on who I'm speaking to for all of the reasons stated... After you reply in the Pon, do you water and then leave it for two weeks or do you put it in a reservoir right away? And since you don’t use a wick, do you just stick the whole pot into a small bit of water? I don’t understand how and when I can put it in the reservoir. Is this making sense?

    Hi Claire. Philodendron mexicanum is probably my favorite plant in my collection. Maybe I can help you with yours….. When I got mine it came with root rot and I had to make some adjustments to its care right away. They seem to prefer growing on the arid side of tropical. They do like to dry out in between waterings and mixing some playground type of sand and pumice in with an aroid mix will probably be its favorite solution. They sometimes grow on rocks in the wild, so you might be able to convince one to go semi hydro if you kept it on the dry side. All I had to do was pot my seedling in an aroid mix and put it in a very sunny window and it started to produce adolescent leaves very quickly. They are such easygoing plants but in my experience they like hot sun and some dry roots from time to time. I hope you can save that one!

    OMG, I in my brain I changed your intro to ".. I´m Clair and this is Emma *wink wink*"
    By the way I bought some clear 9cm pots on amazon and they fit perfectly in the storage glass from ikea (korken 0,5l) and the glass lid I use as saucer for little pots. I simply took a pot and tried if it fits in all the cheap glasses they had. I did the same with some tiny pots and all the shot glasses and tee-candle holders. I just think it looks so pretty and makes great and relatively cheap self watering pots. I also took both pots to a second hand shop and tried out some glasses there.

    What's the difference between doing the slow method and placing a plant from soil that's had the soil removed into a jar of water and letting it grow water roots vs putting it in PON and filling the PON with water above the roots? You say how you only want to keep the reservoir low with PON to prevent root rot. Why will roots rot in PON that are sitting in water but not rot when the roots are sitting in just water?

    • @littleheaven70
      @littleheaven70 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They absolutely do. The whole "you can only treat flat mites with sulphur or hot water" myth stems from one TH-cam video, and the misinformation ended up spreading all over the internet like wildfire. There is nothing magical about them. Anything that will treat spider mites will treat flat mites. The thing that trips people up is that flat mites have a really long life cycle and, like other mite species, their eggs are not affected by contact sprays. So people often stop treating before the eggs hatch and they get re-infested. The key is to treat further apart for longer - like once every two to three weeks for three months rather than every couple of days for a fortnight. Sulphur is actually a pretty poor miticide (only treats what it touches and doesn't deal with the eggs) and it's rough on plants, people and pets. I've seen reports of the vapours tarnishing people's jewellery in the same room as a treated plant 😬 It's definitely not something that would spray around indoors.

    • @kittysparkleeyes
      @kittysparkleeyes 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@littleheaven70 thanks for that reply, it was concerning especially as I keep hoya and its probably only a matter of time! More over the sulpher spray leaves nasty crusty staining on the leaves so its something I would avoid if possible! I like to use alcohol spray tbh as its the only thing I have used so far that hasnt destroyed leaves on at least some plants

    • @littleheaven70
      @littleheaven70 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kittysparkleeyes It is an unfortunate reality of owning hoya (and I've had them on syngoniums, string of nickels, and even anthuriums - they are not picky eaters!). But on the bright side, they breed so slowly that it takes ages for an infestation to get big. I recommend getting a strong jeweller's loupe (40x minimum) which is just enough magnification to spot them. And just be persistent with treatment if you find them. Oh, and if the plant is not too densely-leaved, wiping the leaves and stems with a wet paper towel should get off a lot of the unhatched eggs. If you want to go the beneficial bugs route, californicus mites are the #1 choice.
