Are you a fan of texture? It seems that it may not be as popular as I thought. Every house and apartment I've ever lived in has had texture so I thought it was the "common" thing to do 🤷♂️. It really covers up the flaws in an old 1955 house. Please consider subscribing 👉 th-cam.com/users/BatCityDesigns.
I agree. Good choice to use in old houses, but not so good for new houses. If any holes or damage is done on new drywall that has been textured it is a pain trying to fill holes, let alone use drywall tape, almost impossible, very messy.
Just FYI, been a drywaller for about 35 years and I have found that a large plastic paint shield is the best tool for knocking down texture. It flexes a lot so you don't have to be as careful and can move faster. The sprayer looks good. Will try one.
Hey man, I appreciate the demonstration and the tips. For those that are jerks in your comments, they simply never learned how to communicate effectively...ignore them. Thanks!
Here's a few things I picked up using my machine. Like you, I like it. Practice first in the area where you'll actually spray the mud. That includes practicing getting the mud at the correct consistency. Make up as large of a batch of mud as you can because it will be unlikely that your second batch will be the same as your first batch. If I had it to do over again, I'd measure and record the mud to water ratio. I was using the premixed all purpose mud in the four gallon bucket. The consistency of your mud will dictate how far from the wall you need to be for the desired effect during the spraying process Oh! This thing will go through a lot of mud in short order if you're doing a course knockdown like I was. Secondly, white mud on whitish drywall is really hard to see, at least it was for me. What I did was spend four bucks for a small box of cake food coloring. It's in the baking section of your grocery store. I used all four tubes that produced a darkish green color. That provided the contrast I needed. My project was tougher than most because I replaced the bottom two feet of drywall in most of my house due to water damage. I had to match the really rough knockdown texture of the upper six feet of wall. The contrast in color was very helpful. Lastly, you need to factor in temperature, humidity, and airflow of your work area. I did my walls during the record breaking heatwave we had here in Southern CA during September. Even though I was running my AC, it was struggling with the outside temp of 115 degrees and 10% humidity we had the day I did the texture. I found out quickly that there is very little time between too soon and too late with regards to the knockdown process under those conditions, especially with low humidity and high air flow. Indoor temp was 72 F. Hope that helps
Works pretty good for the walls but horrible for ceilings. Perfect for patch work though because u get even coverage with a bust trigger approach. It distributes material alot less even when u hold the trigger constant. The section of wall u showed at the end looked perfect. Great job
Thank you for this video! I am about to do my ceiling with this Wagner popcorn gun. I have a question - what consistency should the mud mixture be? Like sour cream or thinner like kefir? And what nozzle did you use on the muzzle of the popcorn gun?
Hello my friend. The information you provide for the sprayer is nice and useful. Created beautiful texture. The view is spectacular. Thank you for sharing.
I always prime after texturing, but I've definitely heard of people priming first. I like to prime after so my last coat of paint will distribute evenly across the surface.
The powertex is terrible for ceiling texture. My house has 12' ceilings so had to buy compressor and hopper sprayer. Hopper sprayer would spray much thicker mud of course and looks like better quality job imo. Wagner sprayer would work for small jobs and repairs, but I recommend you save yourself the frustration. I spent 30 bucks on a sprayer/hopper at Harbor freight, and $160 on a 150psi 8 gallon compressor at Home Depot. My job turned out excellent doing a knockdown texture on my ceilings! I dialed compressor at 75 psi, and sprayed texture from the floor. Goodbye popcorn forever!
texture looks very nice! I did not realize you knocked it down by going in multiple different directions. Great tip! I do have to point out the problems you have caused. We will be redoing more bathrooms and it appears the lights we plan to use are the same as the ones you installed. Change of plan now. LOL
I'm not 100% sure. It would be really hard to clean the bed liner out of this since it isnt as water soluble so it'd be a 1 time use. Also, this sprays aggressively (like texture) so you'd really need to protect the rest of the truck.
If you want a better knock down trowel, go to the paint section at Lowe's and get the black plastic paint shield with handle on it. Its bigger and easy to use and doesn't leave lines. You can thank me later.
I just used one of these to texture the ceiling in my big shop I'm building. It worked great! Really hard on my shoulders though. The hopper is designed to be rotated 180 degrees so that the angled part helps the mud flow into the sprayer when you point it up.

Bat City Designs great review. Looks like my going to buy one. Trying to get away from compressors.is it loud?

Seems like texture is a regional thing.

Did you try the Power Tex?

If it drys on you.... u can always sand it down looks the same
Hey, I just bought a powertex. Thanks for showing it in action. I've prepped the room and will start texturing tomorrow. Thanks.

Yes you definitely have to use this tool with the short burst method and the mixture needs to be very consistent.
I was going to ask if it was not already address in the video and comments. Is there anything you like for ceilings that is similar to this product?
Created beautiful texture. The view is spectacular. Thank you for sharing.
Is it good for popcorn ceilings?
That texture is GORGEOUS
How do you not get it on the ceiling?
Thank you
What do you recommend electric or not electric please

Pretty sure he said pancake mixture
I;m not a big wall or ceiling texture fan, but I am a fan of your videos so thumbs up.

Haha I really appreciate it. There were too many flaws in this old house. Had to cover it.
👍 😊

I want to add orange peel texture to my wall, should I apply the drywall sealer before applying the texture?????

Haha you can go with the same lights! Now you know how they look and that they work. Cant wait to see your remodels!
Should I use all purpose or topping compound? Will regular all purpose mud clog it more or less? Any advise for fine orange peel. Thx.
You can use general purpose mud, just thin it to pancake batter consistency.
Never had texture a wall before, but with this gut it looks manageable. Nice vid and content.
Cheers..
Thanks, it's pretty easy and is popular here in TX (or so I thought).
Maybe i buy something like that. Looks easy. Thanks mate!
Nice texture ..thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Can you use raptor liner with this

was the end result after or before you painted it
Hello Sir it’s looking good .from where can I buy and what’s the name of that ? Thank You 😊
Dónde puedo conseguir el tips para está japer
Didn’t look to good during the process but after paint it looked damn good.
How's she goin'? Well that turned out pretty nice. An interesting effect. Now do you spray paint the walls after using this? Thanks for posting.
Thank you! It takes 1-2 coats of primer, and then a final coat of paint.
price ?

That sounds nice, the corners on this one got bent after 1 use and it leaves these lines 😡
@@KellyConcepts I used to have that tool you have, those lines triggered my ocd... Wait until you try that paint shield. Turns out beautiful now 👍
I went looking today I only found an aluminum one with black handle. Do you know anywhere else I can find it?
Have you tried using this texture sprayer on ceilings? I've read in the reviews that it isn't great for those. Thanks!

good video--very helpful. I love my Texture sprayer!
Thanks for watching!
Cool video you should make one for the ceiling popcorn.
Thanks great videos 👍👍👍
Hey great vid how much does that sprayer cost?
$129 or so.
Or one im selling for $60
What setting did you use to spray the texture it really pops out
Thanks!!
Looks good.. Thanks
You bet! Thanks 😄
I hate texture finishes on walls or ceilings. But for a rental property it is going to cover up a lot, cheaply and quickly.
Exactly, it covered up the flaws really nicely! Thanks for checking it out.
Wipe after every stroke
Should be using topping, not joint compound
The last shots of the texture look a lot different than the texture you were knocking down.
Why do you say adjust the nozzle you can't adjust the nozzle it screws on it screws off
This works pretty well, but is a bear to clean.
I yiyi
Your mud is too thick. That's why you're having to trigger it .
Coulv done better
Why does no one ever take the time to actually measure shit out...because pancake texture doesn't explain jacksh*t to me.
Compound comes in various drynesses. Same brand at the same store will still vary on how much water to put.

Awful!!
looks gross.
LEARN WHAT YOUR DOING BEFORE YOU TRY TO SHOW SOMEONE ELSE, THAT NOZZLE DOES NOT " ADJUST", YOU CHANGE NOZZLES FOR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS !!
TRIGGERED
Sorry for saying "adjust" nozzle instead of "switch" out nozzle in this unscripted video.
@@KellyConcepts u dont adjust anything !, to chance patteren, u change tip/nozzle
