Of all other videos on YT, yours is very detailed, short and sharp... thank you so much. I hope this attachment is available in the market here in my country.
That is so stinking clever! I feel like the people who came up with these attachments were really having fun inventing little tiny things for sewing machines. I so want this, even though I have no real problem with hand finishing my seams when necessary.
I really don't understand why this channel doesn't have 10-100 times more subscribers. It's my favorite channel for the all things vintage sewing machine!
I’m definitely subscribing. I bought a vintage singer, I love it but I wish it was more than a straight stitch and now I know where to go with help of things. :)
I bought this attachment after seeing your video here. I will update my comment when I have tested it. Thank you. Beats having a second machine set up at all times.
I love your channel! Any chance you could do more in "attachment" videos? I have purchased a lot of vintage attachments (which I think are brilliant!) but I'm not sure how to use most. Just a thought from a fan. Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you so much for this, and your other videos - so helpful and informative! I just obtained this model, a CMI Inc. Chadwick patent zigzagger. I'm looking forward to trying it out!
Nicely presented as usual. I have one of these for my 15-91, it is more useful for decorative stitching, not so much for repairs, mending or general sewing, that is best left to a ZZ machine such as a 401a where the needle moves, not the fabric.
By general sewing, I mean repairs and zig-zag stitching that is structural. The ZZ attachment , like the buttonholer, moves the fabric or garment being sewed which is not ideal. I'm not saying it won't work...it's actually an amazing piece of kit...but if you have access to a ZZ machine, you'll be better served and have more control over your project.
Thanks for useful video, only caveat, I would have liked to see how it did zigzag on the edges, to stop seam edges fraying, which is what I mostly use zigzag for? Is it trickier when the fabric is being shaken from side to side, can you still keep the stitches on the edge? Otherwise very good, especially the extra info about it doing straight stitch too, to save feet changes :)
Thank you for that - it is nice to see one being demonstrated to show a range of stitch widths and lengths. I've got one which looks just the same, but it came with something that looks similar to the edger - but is more robust and the "ups and downs" are more pronounced. Apparently it is used for when you want to zig-zag two things together (eg, lace-to-lace or fabric-to-lace-to-fabric like an insertion). Do you one of those with yours and, if you do, would you have any hints (or another video if I'm very lucky!) on how to use it, please? Ta... Megan
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns Awesome! I know you'll have a To Do List as long as your arm so that's very kind of you. :-) I've subscribed because I find I keep watching your vids all the time. Thank you!
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns Hello again! I've been playing with mine just trying to zig-zag and I'm having a really difficult time getting a good stitch (nothing half as nice as yours!). I'm getting better at steering (it's a hand-crank, so all one-handed) but it seems no matter how I tinker with foot pressure and upper and lower tensions I can't find the "sweet spot". And if I get something kind-of-reasonable front-and-back (if you only see it on a galloping horse) then as soon as I change stitch length or width it all goes cattawampus. If you do get time to make that other video one day (or even if you don't) I think many of us out there who find themselves in possession of one of these would love just to hear about any tips or tricks you've got that made you get such good stitching. (And of course - if you don't get time I understand - perhaps some other readers who have mastered this particular critters might have some tips.) Ta... Megan
I have just got this attachment for my Singer 99k but it sits very low and I can barely get the fabric under the foot. Is there a way to adjust this? Thank you!
It sounds like your presser bar may be too low. I don't think there's any way to adjust the height of the attachment. Try reducing the presser bar pressure.
Thanks for an informative video. Do you know if a Singer brand foot will fit into other machines, like a Jones CS family series. Or will I need to buy a other brands Thanks in advance!
Great video! This one I'm using is skipping stitches quite often. How to fix this? It won't do a straight stitch either. When fully tightened, it's doing a small zig zag still. I wonder if it's broken or needs adjusting somehow?
Class this foot be kept on the machine all the time for straight stitch and occasional zig zag? Or will this put additional strain on the needle or mechanism?
Unfortunately I have not tried the Greist zigzagger so I can’t offer any advice only that the Chadwick is a simple device so I would expect the Greist to be better.
Hi I've recently bought one of these but the zig zags are small & the thread keeps breaking could you give me any tips on how to improve the performance I'm using a 185k
There's an adjustment at the back for the width of the zig zag although it will still be narrower than zig zags done on a modern machine. You may need to loosen the top tension a little.
I have a rotary machine, circa 1950 where the presser foot attaches via a knurled knob; Your zig-zag attaches via the side. Is there a zig-zag attachment model for my rotary machine?
These haven't been made for many years, so look out for them at flea markets, second hand and vintage stores, eBay or specialist vintage sewing machine dealers
Thanks very helpful video Where it is available? I am living in India online I checked I couldn't find any such mechanism If you can send address it will be very helpful.
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns Well unfortunately it is truely only for a low shank machine and mine is high shank. I was determined to get it to work so I found a high shank zigzagger on Amazon which was trash. However since it had the proper geometry, I literally welded the Chadwick mechanisim on to the foot and arm bar. Made a custom adjustmant for it and got it to work. It's still a hack though since a true zigzag has at least 2 stitches in each direction where as these gadgets only give you one. I'm working my way up to being able to do them freehand i.e. feed dogs disabled. A lot of work I know, when you can get multi-stitch machines these days for low $$$. As long as the machine is 'low shank' then it will fit. Not sure about the Jones CS, I know the used different needles.

They can be temperamental. Check your tension and the presser foot pressure.
Class this foot be kept on the machine all the time for straight stitch and occasional zig zag? Or will this put additional strain on the needle or mechanism?

Thank you, my zig zag needs are not great, so using it just when needed wouldn't be too difficult.
I am looking for a Zig Zag Attachment and Ruffler for a singer 221 / 222 Sewing machine...Have you any advice ..Thanks
Most low shank attachments will fit a 221/222
Cannot get low shank ...plenty of high shanks
@@boradruma Low shank is the most common - most newer machines use low shank.
What sewing machines does this attachment fit. I'm trying to find one for a 1923 new home sewing machine. Singer seems to dominate the field.
This will fit any low shank machine.
Do they make soMr thing like this for an industrial machine
I haven't come across anything. I think they would have had specific industrial zig zag machines.
How would you compare the Chadwick to the Greist zigzagger with changeable decorative discs?
Unfortunately I have not tried the Greist zigzagger so I can’t offer any advice only that the Chadwick is a simple device so I would expect the Greist to be better.
I have a 50's White Sewing Machine, do you know if this zigzag attachment will work for my machine?
If it's a standard low shank machine, then yes. We didn't get White machines here in the UK so i'm not familiar with them.

try ebay, I think there is still a version of this being made

Hi this attachment is no longer available. Wonder you have the assembly drawings here? I can make one instead :)

can I use that in my industrial sewing machine?
no. This is a low shank fitting. Industrial machines are usually high shank

From Where can I get one like this zegzagger...????
This came with a second hand sewing machine but I believe they are available on Amazon or eBay.
Any chance this would work on a 1916 Treadle 16K 115?
