Genuinely the Reigen introduction in this episode was probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed in the whole series because not only is it perfectly timed, the perfect camera angle, and him just.. showing up. It’s perfectly in character
The boss might have gone all over the world, but that doesn’t mean he met even half the espers that exist. He couldn’t even sense Mob in his own hometown when he came home.
Mob Psycho is simply perfect the way it handles all the core themes of the story while not leaving the comedic touch and amazing fights. Just wait till the upcoming episodes they're gonna be insane as well.
*Shimazaki* is easily one of the coolest minor Antagonist of all time! Everything about him just make you feel excited for what's about to come, how else they can show his powers! Everytime I re-watch *Mob Psycho* & I get to Season 2, am just hyped to see him in action again + am someone who rarely gets excited for Action scenes in Anime but again, *Mob Psycho 100* is one of the very few exceptions cuz it has such a perfect balance of everything 😫
All I'm saying is there should be a Teru spin off solely to see a rematch against Shimazaki because with how good the fight is in this episode I can't imagine if we got a scene where he actually goes all out
When you talked about how good this anime is at misdirection, I was so glad you said it during this episode. Reigen "self-defending" against Shimazaki was one of the most unexpected scenes I've ever watched.
To this day, this is 1 of the best fighting action sequences I've seen in any work ever. Mob Psycho 100 hit my top tier anime because of this. With all the great writing, comedy, etc. I was so shook that when the action gets good, it's up there among the best action animes.
The whole Shimazaki fight followed by Mob appearing is some of the hypest shit in anime. And then Reigen showing up out of nowhere and laying him out is some of the funniest shit in anime. This show just does it all perfectly.
28:15 Since Mob’s power spikes with any emotion, in that moment, Shimazaki saw Mob’s already massive power expand probably by a 100 fold…he realized Mob could’ve easily killed him and got scared sh*tless…
Adding on to that, what Shimazaki saw of Mob (a literal beacon of psychic power) was probably Mob in a neutral state. When Mob got mad at Shimazaki for his motives... one can only imagine what all that power looked like to Shimazaki.
No wonder the choreography and style of jjk s2 fights was a lot like mob psycho fights Make it 2d, chaotic and dynamic and in return reduce the consistency of drawing per frame(I hope u get what I mean, I mean it as a very brilliant thing to do)
Funny you say the first attack ritsu made against the teleporter was good forgetting that he used a smokescreen against a blind guy who can predict your movement, it wasn't good at all XD

3:49 in a way, the anime itself IS a misdirection at first glance, you'd think it's just a funny gag comedy anime about an overpowered psychic boy, kinda like Saitama and then you start to slowly realize that psychic powers are mostly a metaphor, and that they're very rarely the focus of the story, and that the ACTUAL story is much more deep and personal, about relationships, about emotions and repressed feelings, about growing up and challenges that come with it, not just as a kid who is slowly becoming an adult, but also as an adult who becomes a better person

The two things Mob and Saitama share besides overwhelming power I think it's a lack of ego. Saitama could punch a hole through a planet and yet he's still trying to clip coupons, Mob's one, if not, the most powerful of Espers and he just wants to be able to jog a respectable distance with his own muscles. Maybe Saitama could be a little egotistical in that he wants challenges, but he's not greedy, he doesn't even aim for the top spot he just wants to get make enough to afford rent and food even though he's probably the most un-limited being on the planet. Mob has all those lessons from Reigen drilled into him that he's just a person like anyone and that the shouldn't see himself as better. He's humble, respectful, fears his immense power and subconsciously puts mental blocks up to limit his use of it. Both of them lift others up morally by example. They're two sides of the same coin.
The self-defense rush scene is possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen in anime. They've been building toward that joke since the first episode of season one, and it paid off in the best possible way.
HANAZAWA TERUKI "TERU" THAT IS HIS NAME!!!!! Honestly, Luke, you are probably the densest reactor I've ever seen when it comes to getting names right. I think you play it up to a certain extent, but at times, it can be a bit much like cmon man. Also, the reason why the op teleporter(Shimazaki)'s voice is so familiar is cuz he is the voice of Sasuke Uchiha(black haired sharingan "red eyes" from naruto) and Emiya Shirou(red haired main character of fate/stay night).

The fight with Shinazawa is so well done, think the animator for this fight/episode also was in charge of some of latest JJK season's fights.
