  • I took delivery of my Gen 3 V12 ocean ski yesterday and today was her maiden outing. Conditions were tough with a 15-20knot breeze causing side and headwinds for 3/4 of the paddle. The first section was with a tailwind, then we were in protected water as we veered left after the bridge. The conditions got worse as the race progressed so I cut the video short.

Great speed under these conditions. We must give extra credit for the guy in the K1 Cinco :)

Nice. Love the color options you have overseas for the Epic skis. We only have the usual black, red, or white tip skis in the US.
    Looks like a fast ski.

how does that ski compare to other skis you've raced?

I’ve had the Epic V10 sport, V10L, Carbonology Vault, Carbonology Flash. Held onto the flash for around 5 years as it was a great “all round” ski (fast in flat and stable for the odd downwind). Then went to Think Uno Max as it was slightly better on the flat but I found it a handful in some downwind conditions. In the V12 I’ve found another good “all round” ski that surfs better than all those previous skis but is just as quick on the flat. I’ll be holding onto this one for a while I think.

@@brettmcdonald1798 How does the Vault compare to the V10L in speed, stability and remount. I have a Spark but its too tippy for me.

As a beginner :why do you race so close together?

Wrong, you get a good draft just off to the side with your nose parallel to the other paddlers seated position or right on the tail

I would guess (not a racer) there’s a hydrodynamic advantage gained from riding the wake to the rear and side/rear (like in swimming), and an aerodynamic advantage (drafting, as in cycling) especially when traveling against the wind. There’s also likely a mental advantage when following since you don’t need to navigate and look around as much, you can just relax and follow. Again, just a guess and hope that helps. Someone will correct me to 100% if I know my YT… 😅

I had the chance to come very close to a racing SUP-Paddler for about 10 min...as soon I got with the front into the small waves from his SUP, I used much less force to stay close...we had an average of 10k @@tommyrq180
