I got a little surprise when I unboxed my new Jantex paddle sent by Australian Paddle Sports. A new locking mechanism which helps maintain your paddle angle and length so you're not struggling to see it when setting up in the dark or without your glasses on. Game Changer!

    this is a great training video for my erg training Brett, thankyou, what distance? My erg is a diy but the smarts are concept 2 ski erg, I kept up with your stroke rate and it’s clocking in at around 6.8kms, does that sound close? Cheers, niall

      @@lorrainehurley7429 hi and thanks. Yes, distance on an erg is subjective. When I train on an erg I tend to train to a time not a distance. I’m It sure what distance this session was. I’m hoping to get a new GoPro for Christmas and aiming to do some new videos for ergo training early next year and I’ll try to leave the distance travelled on the screen

    Hey Brett, what would be the best training routine for this distance event on an erg? I’m pushing out 5k and 7k average every day or every second day at present, should i up distance to 12k? Or is it better to do 2 5k or 7k sessions per training day? Would like to enter event not to win but would like to see the front pack in the distance! I do have a heart rate monitor so i know when to tap out😅 cheers, niall.

    What is your conclusion as to the differences in downwind surfing, Specski vs. Oceanski? What's the main difference?

    • @brettmcdonald1798
      @brettmcdonald1798 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nuriroeleveld1640 a surf ski by Australian definition is a ski made to a set specification for surf life saving competition. So a minimum length, width and weight. This makes them inherently more stable as top end ocean skis. The only disclaimer to this is that if the seat height is built up on a surf ski for better ergonomics for racing it can be less stable. Part of the reason for getting the Carbonology Surf X is their use of a ski bucket, so very stable. The main difference I noticed is the reduced length (5.8) as opposed to ocean skis at 6 to 6.1m is it the tail picks up later on the swell and it is more nimble on a wave. You can turn much easier (shorter length, flatter planing hull). My full length ocean skis tended to take more advantage of the bigger swells, being able to accelerate using the full length of the ski and hold the swell longer. So each has advantages. You need more skill and be better at reading the swell and waves to link them in a full length ski as they won’t necessarily turn as easily as a surf ski.

      Yeah whenever Brett and I have jumped back in a boat together after a period we usually do some adjustments to get the rating down so we let the boat run better between strokes. It actually sees an increase in speed. This race however we didn’t have the chance to get our setup right and found the rating too high. Perfect rating at threshold for me is 85, we were running closer to 90-95. Having said that it was low tide and shallow so a higher rating did keep the boat running well in the shallows even though it hurt me at times (obvious from HR)

      I sold the Infusion X to an up and coming young guy who is going to Nationals and couldn’t find a marathon spec boat big enough for him. If there's no resolution from Vajda re: footplate angle adjustment you could glue a wedge of foam on the footplate. I did that on my Nelo 560 and it works well. Feels slightly soft, but seems to work once I got used to it. I removed the traction foam from the footplate, glued on the wedge, glued the traction foam on the wedge. 3M super 90 contact adhesive, which is waterproof but removable with Goo Gone.

There’s also likely a mental advantage when following since you don’t need to navigate and look around as much, you can just relax and follow. Again, just a guess and hope that helps.
