Thats the Sigma way (Civ 5 really likes to limit your success. happiness limits your growth in your cities and warmonger limits you playing wargames in a logical way as in eliminating the threat completely instead like the braindead ai taking one city [and making a puppet for 50 turns] and going to sleep for 40 turns so their enemy can recapture it.). It is a fun game but the ai sniffs glue and doesn't share it with the player.
Started playing about a month or two ago after I realized I had the game after getting it for free a couple years back. Pro tip for fighting *against* the Zulus. If you discover gunpowder *DO NOT* upgrade your longswordsmen to musketmen right away. Impi warriors have a combat bonus against musketmen. Despite having a higher strength rating, musketmen are weak against Impi. Longswordsmen on the other hand are stronger than Impi. Especially if you are attacking first to negate their spear throw.
I think the best empire for domination victory is the huns. Because of its horse archer and battering ram . It is very easy to attack enemy cities in early game and capture them before they produce more cities to defend their original capital
the con is, on deity this strategy only works on slowest game phases, when AI achieves proper technologies that counter Ram significantly slower (civil service, steel).
Elizabeth makes sense, long bow and SoL are pretty nuts, but a civ that I'd put above China and Zulu would have to be the Mongols. There unique unit is so good, and plays so well to their strengths that you can easily dominate any civ that you can reach. There stronger than crossbows, move farther than other calvary units, gain xp faster, are able to help produce Mongolia's other unique unit the Khan faster as well, and can fire after moving! They can pretty much run circles around any unit besides the long bowmen, and even then if you position your units correctly you can easily rush them down before they can get a shot off. Their only real downside is that they upgrade into a melee line, but as long as you get as much battle in as possible (which is easy to do as the Mongols since you can just bully some city states if you run out of civ opponents before your able to traverse the seas for new victims, since Mongolia also gets a combat bonus against city states!), you'll be able to earn some pretty good upgrades that can carry over, and train up some pretty uber strong melee fast moving units.
I picked up this game 2 weeks ago and i absolutely love it. Was disappointed that there was no fresh content for this game to watch until i found your channel.. :D Still have not really figured out how to play with wich Civ and how best to prepare for mid to endgame but this is a ton of help!
Surprised you didnt mention Attila for being a dominative in marathon game phase even on deity its very solid early game allowing you to conquer your continent before opponents get civil service or steel. Genghis Khan is also solid mid game due to keshiks being OP midgame. Same story with Harun ar Rashid with his unique building - bazaar, that is useful to maintain strong economy and solid army together with his camel archers being the strongest ground ranged unit just after Hwach'a. Speaking of Hwach'a, Korea for domination isn't too bad either - super solid Turtle boats and Hwach'a being heavy hitter up to modern era is extraordinary difficult to deal with on continents and pangea maps while doing coastline warfare. Also Korea unique ability guarantees increases science so you can achieve their unique unit technologies significantly faster. Denmark is also decent at medieval/rennaisance warfare due to Berserkers having 3 movement points, being able to get 1 tech earlier than longswordsman (with very useful tech to unlock too!). Later in the game Rifleman unique unit can also work while fighing on tundra/hill fights, but its more situational unit than strong. For marathon deity also Assyria could potentially work, but its significantly weaker than The Huns due to lacking of supportive secondary unique unit. But their siege towers are also very strong and synergises decently with statue of zeus.
I'm surprised nobody here is mentioning Assyria. The siege tower is the most OP siege engine in the entire game. Those things are like tanks of the classical period.
I agree with your ratings on China, their crossbow replacement is insane. Especially when you upgrade them into double firing Gatling guns and so on. England pretty much follows the same lines. Thanks for the great video, keep it up!

Would you consider Russia a good Civ for Dom? It’s more of a late game power house but if you can survive to that point your golden with the double uranium bonus especially if you get the Fascism upgrade from Autocracy Policy, I find the double resources to be super helpful late game when there isn’t as much special units and stealth bombers and nukes rule the planet.
Actually it’s quadruple uranium with the fascism upgrade get yourself a good economy and a fleet of nuclear subs and you can just rain death onto civs even if they’re lvl 8
They’re definitely a good pick! I think they’re a slightly more well rounded Civ than the ones in this video overall. The extra uranium can also be traded away for a lot of you end up playing a more peaceful game in the late game too, which is not a bad strategy for Russia after losing your unique unit.
this is tricky question to be honest. if the game is up to this late its definitely worth considering, but for my 1000+hrs of playing immortal/deity difficulties I managed to get this late into the game once or maybe twice while going for dom. usually my games are finished just before or right after achieving first techs of information era, which is too early for this synergy to kick in. Worth mentioning is unique cavalry unit - cossacs being fairly strong at industrial and modern era.
The only thing I dislike about cho-ko-nus and longbowman is the fact, they are upgradeable to shitty gatlings, that are nothing against artillery later on. I prefer not to use them offensively because they are too slow and with a bit too careless push you can lose them relatively quickly without achieving anything. Those units are mostly useable if you plan to conquer basically everyone or most of the players before getting to modern era. I mostly prefer starting recruiting Trebuchets and Cannons than crossbows, just to give a chance for them getting some experience before upgrading them to artillery later on. Logistics artillery are kings of industrial, modern and at some point even atomic era. +1 range after getting logistics is also simple to get so they are basically untouchable if you gain experience quickly.
Now one which definitely isn't the best by a long shot, but a civ that really threw my game off is Songhai. Having their basic warriors be as strong on sea as a trireme is nothing to snort at. Especially when I played on a large island map trying to go for a very early trireme spam but just got wrecked by his warriors.
Note: Wu Zetian's Great General spawn rate is increased by 50%, which means you get 1.5x spawns, not 2x.

im using wu zetian for domination so far conquered rome at 1700 ad and went from 3rd best military to 10th best military and am now im financial debt
