When cooking rice after the timer goes off pull it off the heat and do not open it. Let it rest for 5-10mins the excess steam will settle and release the rice from the bottom of the pot. Works every time😊
Well done! That was a nice variety of meals. Try putting your green onions in a glass of water (only the roots) change the water daily. They'll start to grow stretching your onions and they last for a long time that way. I keep mine by a window in the kitchen and just snip off as much as I need from the tops. Once they start getting too old I just chop up what's left and get a new bunch.
When I have a bit extra in the budget I buy powdered milk and keep it in the pantry for lean times. We can use it as coffee creamer and I use it in recipes to make things a bit richer.
You are awesome!!! I've subscribed. Lovely, eye appealing meals with real nutrition! Just wanted to share a condiment which carries it's weight. Jarred salsa for a buck, stays good for a couple of weeks in the fridge. I can use it on salad instead of fresh tomato, as a light stir in to a pasta dish, on eggs, mix a bit in for 'Spanish rice,' on toast with olive oil, for a 'poor man's bruschetta, mixed with mayo for a spicy sandwich spread. I even occasionally put a touch in the yolk mix for deviled eggs (or egg salad.) Keep up the great work!
take the root end of your scallions, stick them in water or soil and they will regrow...chop up the chive ends and either add them in or freeze them for later...dts
Tip that I learned lave your carrots and celery scrapes leftovers in a freezer ziploc bag to make homemade vegetable broth. I definitely learned to make new meals by watching your video. Thank you for sharing ☺️
I love your honesty on this video! Now this is definitely LIVING! Even your errors are what reality is about, so way to Go on that! I will be adding you to my videos to watch. Definitely worth my while to watch. Try Creamed chipped beef on mash potatoes, its easy to make homemade, and definitely frugal on a very very tight budget.
Great meals Maria! It doesn't seem like you scream for anything really. Everything looks very satisfying and delicious. I love these type of videos thanks for posting them, and sharing!🐾
For the rice add a pat of butter so it won’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Also with the meatballs, add egg and breadcrumbs and pan fry then bake, so they will keep their shape.
Well, I thought you did a fantastic job.. all of your meals looked really good. Yes please do more I really love watching these videos it is so amazing what great meals people can come up with using little money and few ingredients. Thanks so much for sharing and I am looking forward to more. I just subbed your channel. :)
Love your kitchen😁 I watched your haul you can see the effort you put into this challenge. I would consider flour tortillas next time...large packs for cheap🌸 Great job!!
Thank you! I used flour tortillas from Dollar Tree last time and I 100% wanted to buy them this time too but the selection at Walmart was dismal! Maybe next time they will have more!
For all recipes, when they all for milk I always use half water half milk, so just water should be fine in most cases. I also half the sugar for whatever recipe I am using. I find most recipes too sweet and it’s easier on the budget.
This is so interesting to me 😁. It's great for people on a budget and limited cooking skills. You should incorporate spices in your hall too for someone who is starting from scratch.
I’ve recommended buying a spice a week or giving kids out on their own for the first time a basic pantry to get started as a housewarming gift. I’ll need to mention that next time 😊 good point!
Careful with homemade mayo. It's good, but won't store well and can cause illness if too old OR it gets too warm (we couldn't take egg salad to school in warm months as a kid). Store bought is pasteurized to preserve it. Never serve it if it's warmed up. Otherwise, eat it in a week or so and it's good.
Excellent! Have you ever made sourdough bread? I think you would do well. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not hard. And dirt cheap. You don’t even need yeast. The only tool you might need is a digital scale. It’s much more accurate, but you can do it with measuring cups. Give it a try. ☮️💕
I watched a video where a mom was checking cost of buying premade vs home made. She raved about the low cost, ease of making and taste of home made mayonnaise. Your meatballs recipe reminds me of a meatloaf recipe. I would like to what foods you have left over, even partial amounts or even just a list. Did you use all 60 eggs, leftover roll, or ?
It was so much easier than I anticipated! And now that you mention it, I didn’t even think about the raw egg not being cooked 🤔 It definitely was really good though!
Hi Maria from Washington state! I decided to try your challenge for a week and price it out for my local Walmart. If I bought everything that you did on your list it would cost me $40.95 not too bad. Our 60 count eggs were $6.68 which I was surprised wasn’t higher. Maybe because of Easter recently 🤔 Anyway my total was slightly higher because I substituted real butter, sour cream, teriyaki marinade and Canadian bacon for the ham. I also added some lettuce. All total it still was under $50 which is fabulous! Thanks for your videos and your inspiration! 😄
So i know it's not what I originally thought but when I first saw your intro pic for this video I thought the tacos on the bottom left corner were strawberry and cream cheese for a second (I thought the green stuff was the leafy stems that normally come on top)...and i thought...ohhhh interesting, i wonder if that was any good. Then i realized it wasn't strawberries lol
I was wondering how long homemade mayo stays good ... I thought you would like to know. Google's answer After making mayo with vinegar, just leave it out for a few hours before putting it in the fridge, so the acid has a chance to kill the bacteria in the egg. You can keep it for a week after that, 2 weeks is at your own risk though. Chorizo fried and put in beans with cheese is really good or chorizo in eggs burritos if you have never tried it. I wonder what chorizo in fried rice would taste like??? Everytime I get frozen pizza it taste like the cardboard it comes on. They really need to not put it on cardboard.
@@MealsWithMaria Just didnt want it to make you sick.💜 Was pretty amazed that you made the mayo so quickly and so easily. Probably we should all make our own most of the mayo it have transfat oils that aren't good for us. Not sure about leaving ut out that sound weird after i just read it again. Why wouldnt it kill them in the fridge? Weird.
@@MealsWithMaria I was looking up some other stuff if you plan to make nayo a lot you might want to pastorize eggs Video. th-cam.com/video/UIeyjt4DoSg/w-d-xo.html

I really have to say something and it’s the meat from Walmart is often just...simply poorly butchered cheap meats. Tho I so appreciate their wide array of organic produce and large assortment of frozen, prepared, and brand names aisle foods, I’m just not at all impressed with their meats and definitely not their seafood. Enjoy your videos! Thanks.
Very good and very creative. However it doesn’t seem like it would be enough calories for your husband? A slice of quiche for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and a bowl of ramen with an egg? Doesn’t seem like enough for a man for a day.
You pie crusts didn't fit correctly because your pans are deep dish. Those pie crusts are for the regular pie pan. You seemed to be wondering why they didn't go up all the way, that's why.

Lay the onions in cold water for an hr. They will be as good as new, no more wilt.
Thank you! Great tip!!!
When I saw you touch that quiche with your bare hands to check for doneness, I became an instant fan.
😂😂 love it!

If you need to make your mac and cheese with water instead of milk, reserve the pasta water for a thicker, creamier result than plain water.
Yes! That makes more sense!
Have you had chorizo with eggs before? It’s amazing in a tortilla too! 😎 great video, again!! 🧡👍🏻
Mmm that sounds so good! It’s crazy I haven’t had it! Next time for sure 😊
Scallions can go in a mason jar with a little bit of water in the fridge. Change the water ever few days. They will continue to grow 👍

Yay! Welcome!
Wow some amazing stuff. Let me mention that soy sauce is terribly salty, so what I do is use Kitchen Bouquet or even Worchestire sauce.
Those are good alternatives!
You can add a few seasonings to the leftover mayo and make a little bit of milk and make your own homemade ranch dressing!
You could use greek yogurt in eggs as a mask replacement too.
Great idea!
If you toast bread and the throw it in a blender or food processor with some seasonings or plain it makes breadcrumbs
I would 100% do that next time!!
