So this video is for folks like me for sure... One thing I gotta know is why Beast was so evil and did that feel like a natural progression to anyone or was that out of left field? Also, were all ancient mutants just automatically externals (Genesis and crew)?
The beast thing is a bit of both... He's been getting more and more sinister in his ways for a while now... But at the same time... The switch in the Krakoan era was a bit drastic...
@@joshuaohuka7719Frankly, it feels like Beast went full assimilationist. I mean, Xavier asked him to head up a CIA and he was still hanging around Abigail Brand. Aka Joss Whedon’s answer to the question “what if America’s Middle Eastern policy walked around on two legs?” Side note, the inclusion of Threnody on Beast’s list of crimes was in part because of an episode of the Podcast Cerebro where the guest of the Threnody episode read Hank McCoy for filth. It was wonderful. Still wished she appeared.
Exact type video I was looking for. Stopped reading after x of swords storyline and wanted to find out what happened with the amazing world Hickman established. You summed it up perfectly
What I never got is that in a world full off super heros and meta humans mutants are still seen a abominations. And that organizations that hunt them are still being funded.
I had to find a breakdown of how to read this dang era. It’s so convoluted and long winded. Thankfully, some glorious comic nerd explained what was truly needed, what wasn’t, and the order.
Cool video Rob. Thank you. I think you should have touched on how they stopped Moira specifically and mention Mr. Sinister and his other clones and becoming Dominion. Those played heavily into the main narrative of the Krakoan Age. Take care and peace everyone.
This era got me through the pandemic and coming years. I hate that it was rushed just so the X-Men could come to the MCU. I hope we can find something that matches the excitement of seeing what your favorite mutants were going to wear to the hellfire gala.
I want more of these! I don't have time for the 3 hour FULL summaries, so I would prefer these general overviews that give me enough to chew on. I only started X-Men with Fall of X, so this gives me a lot of context. Even if I were to go back and read the entirety of Krakoa, it is good to see the full picture in a normal length video.
I like this quick rundown of the entire run. There's just too much to read that I don't have time for, so this is perfect. It'd be great if you also had a follow up video that talks about where all the remaining mutants have ended up.
I never really liked the Krakoa story arc for the X-Men, they went from "we're people too even if we have powers" to "We're better than you because we have powers... also, free resurrections only for us!"
I might get some flak for this, but I've always hated the nation of Krakoa from its inception. Xavier's dream was essentially MLK's was, for everyone to be judged by their character, not anything outside of their control. Krakoa was, in my eyes, giving up. Does it make sense? Yeah, sure, but it always rubbed me the wrong way since it presented characters like Apocalypse and Sinister in a (very minimally) positive light. Not only that, but these characters (most heroes in Marvel for that matter) are supposed to be lessons in morality, having the X-Men essentially give up on _the_ dream and segregate themselves from everyone else presents a _bad_ message.
The foundational point of Krakoa X-Men was that Moira's insanity twisted Xavier's dream. Moira's handful of lives made her think they were the Ultimate Truth of human/mutant relations, and she convinced Xavier and Magneto of this.
Rob I love your content and I would also love if you could give us a full on rundown of how to read X-men ( Krakoan Age). What are the essential collections to seek except Powers/Houses of X ?
Im desperate for a list of the krakoa arc of xmen, i got to the hellfire gala stuff and lost track and was never able to find a proper list of what comic to read at the right points 😩 was gutted cuz i was really enjoying the krakoa stuff, was a nice break from Xaviers school lol
There are people online who have made chronological reading lists for all of the Krakoa era. A simplified list? HoX/PoX X-Men (Jonathan Hickman) X of Swords Hellfire Gala (2021) Inferno X Lives/Deaths of Wolverine X-Men (Gerry Duggan) Immortal X-Men X-Men Red Judgment Day event Sins of Sinister crossover Hellfire Gala (2023) Fall/Rise of House of X X-Men Forever That's the general "core" of the storyline. Other titles like Hellions was a lot of fun and Excalibur dealt with Apocalypse a lot but it might not be considered "essential" since the most important stuff is in X of Swords. Again, though, if you want the "full" experience, then you can Google chronological reading orders. And, while your mileage may vary. I recommend skipping Fallen Angels, Children of the Atom, and X-Corp. None of them really add anything and are actually borderline terrible.
Long time subscriber first time commenter….I absolutely love the fact that you gave a “cliff notes” version of the x-men.I stopped collecting in the 90s but thanks to you and your channel helped me get up to date with my marvel,Keep up the get work 👍
I feel like Moira's power was just that. A power, not an ability. Ability implies that you are able to use it or it was able to happen (or not). Her power was that of "cause and affect" and not something she was "able" to do but may or may not always happen or be chosen.
nice summary to answer your question, I'd love to see more of the finer details of this. i've heard the name of this event for years, but too intimidated due to scale. also it would help to have maybe a trades guide for this in the event i ever got the budget to buy some of these, or if my library had these.
I do like the idea of having a general overview of the whole event so we can get the broadstrokes of it and then we can watch the playlist to get the details of it should we find the story interesting.
Okay I’ve been out of the loop but when did Apocalypse become a good guy. Growing up he was all about the survival of the strongest being a mutant, normal human, etc didn’t matter as long as you were strong. Yes that’s what I have a problem with lol.
I read via the Marvel app. The reading guides are super helpful. with the order of the comics, but as each book drops on Mondays, they seemed to be out of order and it makes keeping up tough!
The krakoan era was my first real attempt at keeping up with superhero comics within existing continuity and if I'm being real;awesome start but it's still such a DRAG to follow the story with so many different books coming out and intermingled events with other heroes that it threw me off by way of pure confusion. Fun story line and at least now I know the X-Men are my favourite super team but lord is it hard to recommend to other people just starting out😂😂
I think this is was a well done era , just like the outback team era. Im kinda glad it ended though with a possible second time in the future. I personally look forward to whats after.
It seems like so many sci-fi stories screw up the resurrection idea, like here and several episodes of Black Mirror. They need to "transfer" their consciousness to a new body. If it's a backup, then the original is dying like in The Prestige.
Settings like Marvel and other American mainstream tend to acknowledge the existence of a soul as an in setting element. This allows them to sidestep certain issues such tech would bring up, like multiple copy spawn.
@@tokukeitaroAnd it was literally the thing that caused the Morrigan to become extremely hostile in Xfactor; the souls were pulled from death in the resurrection process and it made her mad.
This was Kitty's attempt at giving the Genoshan mutants another go, since resurrection was working too slowly. She created a box from mysterium, placed genetic material from the millions lost in it, and sent it back before life was thought to exist. From that box, life grew and eventually, Threshold. But war being what it is, they destroyed themselves with their own weapons, the only surviving members being Sublime, his sister Arkea, and Krakoa itself. Cassandra was left behind in the ruins of Threshold for good measure because she's not easy to kill and what harm could she do a billion years in the past? (I'm sure she'll be back, when there's a reason to do it)
@@ugoeze7360 just the Threshold mutants. They were wiped out in war when they created Sublime and Arkea as living weapons that turned on their creators. Okkara, the only survivor of Threshold, expanded and became the living island that Apocalypse and his clan would later fight to protect. It became Krakoa after that battle.
I watched 47, FORTY-SEVEN, videos just for this type of ending? How the hell did exodus and the 250,000 mutants get out of the white hot room? Why werent they there for the big battle? Wow never been this early , but I’ll have to listen to it after work 😢
So this video is for folks like me for sure...
No, most of the Arrako mutants were mortal. But I get the sense a there was a larger amount of immortal mutants on Arrako than on Earth.
@@drewtheunspoken3988 I think Arrako had the higher mutant population in general...
@@drewtheunspoken3988Probably because they have massive life spans.
@@joshuaohuka7719Frankly, it feels like Beast went full assimilationist.
I mean, Xavier asked him to head up a CIA and he was still hanging around Abigail Brand. Aka Joss Whedon’s answer to the question “what if America’s Middle Eastern policy walked around on two legs?”
Side note, the inclusion of Threnody on Beast’s list of crimes was in part because of an episode of the Podcast Cerebro where the guest of the Threnody episode read Hank McCoy for filth.
I definitely like this shorter recap video. I had started reading this when it started but fell off. Thanks for filling us in!
Any content from you Rob, is more than welcomed by all!!!!
I'll summarize Krakoa: Garbage.
Another of your videos to add to my “must show” list for the class I start teaching here soon . . . . “X-Men Studie” for summer school!
I missed these kinds of videos, it’s what got me into the channel.
@@morlath4767 yeah, and it really does show how much that screwed with several key players like X, even more than other comic runs.
SAME HERE!!! Like, how do you catch up?
Rob usually have a playlist
Yeah marvel was writing 12 different runs that tie into the overall krakoa story. got annoying and hard to follow a while there.
There are people online who have made chronological reading lists for all of the Krakoa era.
A simplified list?
HoX/PoX
X-Men (Jonathan Hickman)
X of Swords
Hellfire Gala (2021)
Inferno
X Lives/Deaths of Wolverine
X-Men (Gerry Duggan)
Immortal X-Men
X-Men Red
Judgment Day event
Sins of Sinister crossover
Hellfire Gala (2023)
Fall/Rise of House of X
X-Men Forever
That's the general "core" of the storyline.
Ya this entire story arch felt convoluted and Rob's consolidated explained helped. Thanks 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Krakoa, story 's so so but with killer artwork.🎉
❤ these summaries especially for the x titles.
Loved this summary. What love to get more for other big events!
Love the general summary for sure well done. After watching all the videos of this the past...year or so a general summary is nice thanks
Long time subscriber first time commenter….I absolutely love the fact that you gave a “cliff notes” version of the x-men.I stopped collecting in the 90s but thanks to you and your channel helped me get up to date with my marvel,Keep up the get work 👍
As a person that doesnt read comics, I love these big overviews
I feel like Moira's power was just that. A power, not an ability. Ability implies that you are able to use it or it was able to happen (or not). Her power was that of "cause and affect" and not something she was "able" to do but may or may not always happen or be chosen.
The term you are looking for is "Passive Ability".
Krakoa was Marvel's biggest failure.
Hickman gave marvel the only plausible role for mutanta
Marver shat on it
Exactly the sort of video I was looking for! I'm jumping out onto the new Gail Simone run of Uncanny X-Men, but was confused by all this Krakoa stuff.
what happend now with mutants, they live on arakko now??
nice summary
to answer your question, I'd love to see more of the finer details of this.
i've heard the name of this event for years, but too intimidated due to scale.
also it would help to have maybe a trades guide for this in the event i ever got the budget to buy some of these, or if my library had these.
I do like the idea of having a general overview of the whole event so we can get the broadstrokes of it and then we can watch the playlist to get the details of it should we find the story interesting.
nimrod killing juggernuts makes no sense, its like hes only as strong as the writer wants him to be
Okay I’ve been out of the loop but when did Apocalypse become a good guy. Growing up he was all about the survival of the strongest being a mutant, normal human, etc didn’t matter as long as you were strong.
Yes that’s what I have a problem with lol.
I wouldnt mind a bunch of long videos explaining each era of the Krakoan age (Dawn, Reign, Destiny, Fall) !!
Fun story line and at least now I know the X-Men are my favourite super team but lord is it hard to recommend to other people just starting out😂😂
We wish you the best man, there are no words for some things in life but always heartfelt best wishes.
Loved the Krakoan era!
I think this is was a well done era , just like the outback team era. Im kinda glad it ended though with a possible second time in the future. I personally look forward to whats after.
Loved.
This.
Kind.
Of.
Video.
Exodus was the only one who fought to bring back Krakoa. Not sure why they fought against him in the end
I need a summary of Marauders because I’m still trying to wrap my head around the relevance of Threshold and how it ties into the fall of Krakoa.
(I'm sure she'll be back, when there's a reason to do it)
@@VolguusZildrohar so Kitty was ultimately responsible for mutants appearing on Earth, and not the Celestials?
@@ugoeze7360 just the Threshold mutants. They were wiped out in war when they created Sublime and Arkea as living weapons that turned on their creators. Okkara, the only survivor of Threshold, expanded and became the living island that Apocalypse and his clan would later fight to protect. It became Krakoa after that battle.
@@VolguusZildroharAnd then they got resurrected again in "New" Krakoa. Those people are gonna be messed up.
I watched 47, FORTY-SEVEN, videos just for this type of ending?
How the hell did exodus and the 250,000 mutants get out of the white hot room? Why werent they there for the big battle? How the hell did Charles end up in prison?
What about Dominion? Wasnt Apocalypse bringing the forces from Mars to help?
Is Tony and Emma atill married?
Love the general summary! Thank you!
Let’s go!!
That was fast
Fuck!!
Gotta go fast Rob.@@comics_explained

My favourite era is still the Utopian age.
Did you know iron man killed Feilong during the finale of the Krakoan era?
No, he buried Fei Long alive in Iron Man #19.
@@drewtheunspoken3988 I don’t see a difference, that’s gonna kill him eventually.
@@Sharkman25 I don't think that will kill him. If I remember, he's augmented and very difficult to kill. I think it's supposed to be a fate "worse than death."
