+Jon Doe Nah it's really depending on your preferences. In my honest opinion the E46 has not only overtaken the E60 and E90, but also its predecessor, the E36, in aging. It took quite a while, but when it got there, it just exploded. I like its front which seems like a nice mix of the E30 and E36, but the side line would better belong to an old man's boat and the hideously ugly taillights actually made the Touring the best looker of them all. The facelift marked the end just like when they ruined the E36, who the hell would want a status icon looking like a happy dog? Blargh. I'll give the E46 credit for its nice interior though. Great improvement over the E36.
the one presented in the video is actually the most ugly configuration for this car.. if you want something beautiful and timeless, look for an E46 coupe with M pack, that is how all of them should look
well i bought 325i e46 *(my first bmw)* and im impressed how good it handles and drive plus the interior its pretty good and long driving don't make me tired
Got 200k on mine now, great car if you don't mind doing the work on it yourself. Parts nowadays are pretty cheap. Only major issue I had was transmission, I went thru a water puddle and it shorted my transmission out. A couple sensors inside the transmission went bad. It still works, but I have a new one ready to go for it when it finally gives out all the way
i just got a 328i a few months ago, im absolutley in love with it....its my 2nd bmw and i have to say i agree its "well rounded" maybe not the tip of the top, but for everyday driving.tight steering, solid, responsive acceleration and (in my opinion) a wonderful center console layout. this car is a real pleasure to drive. i would highly reccomend it to anyone looking to get into a BMW. especially if they haven't owned one in the past. affordable yet refined, years ahead of its time.

However, recently my thermostat stopped working which led to the belief that the car wasn't overheating and out of coolant, so a new water tank is being installed. But other than that it has been my dream car. The regulators on the car windows are something to note though, currently 3 of my windows are broken. Still a beautifully smooth and easy car to get along with though considering its over 16 years old.

Bought a 2000 E46 323i a year ago because we urgently needed another car for me to get to work, paid 1500$ at a police auction, to my surprise it had M upgrades, M steering wheel, M short shifter and the leather M sports seats, its also lowered 1.5 inches on sport suspension and the ECU is modestly tuned for the aftermarket catless headers , the only things I had to change was the battery and oil, the car drives and sounds amazing, the plan now is to buy an E90 335i and do some upgrades but I enjoy the 323i so much I don't have the heart to sell it.
I got the same car and with same TiAG colour, M-Tech aerodynamic package and fully equipped. 12 years old and it still amazes me, it is just fantastic car.
I love BMW e46 coupe and 4door... I have a 330i 2002 and I will never change it, instead I'm working a lot for buy a second car and I thank I will put my e46 in my livingroom. Love it!

I just love it....power locks...power windows....power seats...red leather interior....smooth ride.... and one of the best things is that folks on the road that dont know think its a 318 and they challenge you....but then afterwards they get a big suprise....hahahaha well if your the type to step on it....
I had an E46 325i 2001 Facelift for almost 4 years. I loved it, it never let me down. Took it a few times on the Nordschleife and is was pretty fast. 09:20... ;-) But now I replaced it for a E46 2005 M5 :D
Our 325i has tighter controls than my FiST! Shifting and steering feel solid and that’s saying a lot because the little Fiesta is already a dream to drive
I still get compliments on my 1999 BMW 328i. It's fun to drive and has no problems at all except that my windshield wipers stopped working the other day, other than that it's very nice. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it even after all these years. It's a well built car IMO.
Well, you should get it on a lift and thoroughly check underneath. I had a tiny little leak from the differential/half-axles seal that I got fixed, changed my oil using Fuchs Titan GT1 5W40 (BMW approved, one oil change a year or 15K KM). My airbox was busted and the filter dirty, so thrown it all away and plugged a K&N filter (3.3in) straight on the intake (I'll install a pipe next summer tho). You don't have a lot to replace but check everything regularly to avoid big bills. Enjoy!
just bought one three weeks ago. 1999 328i full equipped. amazing car! 205000KM and running like a brand new one! only problem, a blind granny back up out of her driveway and hit the rear left quarter of my car that was parked across the street... after only three weeks I must say this is frustrating. she didn't see the car? well she'll see the bill.

I'm thinking about buying an E46 but don't know which engine - 320d, 330d, 325i or 328ci.... It's basically decision between diesel and petrol. Anyone got an advice there? p.s. I own a Passat 1.9 diesel and it is economic but sound is awful and being a FWD it's terrible on corners..

trust me straight sixes are very powerful but they eat up a lot of fuel. we own one and it runs out of fuel in 3 days if we use it daily. its a 2.5 I6 with about 175 horsepower
@axtray My thoughts exactly! Thats why I can't decide. The 328i is faster, and safer. But also heavier. I have heard stories of the e46 lacking the e36's charcter. Plus the 325i is noticibly cheaper.

That was not 1,8, but a 1,9 M43 TUB19 engine, and the DSC was standard equipment on all models.
DSC was not standard equipment. I had a 1999 318i a couple of years ago with only ASC (Anti Spin Control)

No it's not a fuel consumption gauge failure, that gauge only works when the car is moving. Not just as the motor is running.
