- Today we get into some patch reef fishing off key largo. Dan who showed me where to find shrimp in Key Largo joins me this morning on the boat for some catch n cook fun.

In this video:
I am taking a subscriber patch reef fishing out of Tavernier Creek here in Key Largo. The goal is to catch some yellowtail snapper in 60-80ft of water. This is along the reef edge at the drop off.
We get out there, chum lots and wait for the fish to come. The sonar was marking tons of fish but it seemed they were just not interested in eating our baits. Cmon fish!
We move further north along the reef edge to another spot. Marking tons of fish again and we prepare to catch some fish. We catch some small yellowtail snapper. I caught a beautiful looking black grouper which was released. Dan had some big fish break him off several times. We will wonder for the rest of our lives what fish was doing that to us.
After some time we move into 20-30 feet of water and hook up on some nice mangrove snapper. These will be perfect for this catch n cook. Mangrove snapper is one of my favorite eating fish.
But what we really want to catch and cook is a mutton snapper. So after some time we move to 10-12 ft deep water. Chum like crazy and hoped for a mutton snapper to show up.
It was a great time fishing with Dan and he told me he will take me out on his boat as soon as the wind dies down so I am looking forward to that!
I get home and catch clean cook the mangrove snapper. Bread the fillets and cook them up in the pan. Add some vegetables and yum yum sauce and it's game on!

Awesome channel man! My wife and I come down to the keys to fish and dive as often as we can, we live up in fort myers thankfully so I can day trip every now and then to key largo but we usually come for the weekends. Your videos are great, awesome tips and info. Keep them comin, lookin forward to seeing your next ones. Since it has been crazy windy lately we havent been able to get the boat back down there yet, and I am having withdrawals lol.

Good segment. A few weeks back I had the same problem fishing patches off sugarloaf; felt like a solid hook set, but they kept spitting hooks. your demeanor was much more civil than mine tho . As always, awesome video.

I'm coming to south Florida in June. First time to ever see the ocean, first time to salt water fish. I hope I can catch a few snapper. They look so delicious, I'm sure better than the frozen ones I buy. Cool video, love the manitees.

do yourself a favor.. pack a little bag full of thoroughly salted pieces of mackerel, shrimp, and/or squid.. use those to get the train going.. catch a pinfish or two first, maybe a pigfish, etc.. then use those as fresh chunk bait along any structure you can find.. follow the current, feed the bait out.. chum as you are able and catch more fish for bait/chum.. keep chumming in a spot with current and good structure downstream, and you will get on the fish in a hurry.. just keep the regulations in mind..
Yeah, I plan on buying some squid, going to try and cast net some bait. Kids going to Disney with grandparents so I'm literally taking a week vacation to fish all day every day (weather permitting).
cool vid man! hey when you bread fish like that, next time coat them in flour, then dip them in beaten eggs before dipping them in the bread crumbs, it helps the bread crumbs stick to the fish and stay there while cooking!

Please tell us about 2-stroke vs 4-stroke from your experience. Would you go back to the expensive service cycle of a 4-stroke? As a marine engineer, I recommend you add fuel injector cleaner in every gasoline fill and/or change to Amsoil 2-stroke oil. Or every 20 hours, pull and clean the fuel injectors. Also Keep Spare new/Clean Fuel Injectors On The Boat.

Easier and more efficient if you mix all of your ingredients in a plastic bag, then just drop the filet in and shake. The whole thing will be completely covered. Good video as always dude.

South Florida Fishing Channel Just watched key west kayak fishing's video and he got a monster mutton and aj in deeper water. I bet if you took him out on a trip you guys would kill it and trade some subscribers. Plug eachothers channel and whatnot. Could be worth the gas money.

anywhere 3 miles from land becomes federal water and the fed fish limits vary from the state limits

30-45min or so. An hour if it's frozen. I buy them in bulk from Key Largo Fisheries. Costs around $4 per block
