Excellent video, much appreciated. I used this to rebuild the psp on my BMW E30. And to EarthPilgrim's comment, if your journal bearing is fried & the shaft is wobbling, you need a new core.
One thing the shop manual had for BMWs that use a similar ZF pump is you should pack that black rubber end seal with grease before reinstalling the shaft. This makes sense..there's a groove around the inside there for the grease. I noticed after doing this the shaft turned much more freely.
I bought this same rebuild kit and I’m working on my pump now. The kit comes with some extra small O-rings that don’t get replaced in this video. The same ones you can see sitting on the ground next to the pump in the video. Does anybody know what these are for? Do they need to be used or am I good if I just replace everything shown in this tutorial?
Dude, the snap ring my BMW kit came with is a beast. It doesn't pop on in the same way yours seems to. I managed to get it on but the plate that sits on top doesn't seat properly over it. Its catch 22. Have you done any recently at all?
i have a question: do you think that just the internal o rings ,on any pump, when they set/deform can make the pump deliver less pressure, and make for a hard steering? i have a weak pump (i tried with another one and it's all good) that i opened, the o rings all have a set,i wonder it it's worth replacing just them, all hard parts look ok.
It's amazing that 27 years after the car was made, I needed to see this video and there it was found by Google when I searched ZF Power Steering repair Kit. One question. Is there no bearing to be replaced? My garage says there is a lot of end float.
Cannot use the 10mm wrench on a 13mm bolt Have you consider of contamination and using old snap ring which it was enlarge when you removed out of the groove
Yep, mistake on the size wrench in the video, good catch there. Also the kits now come with a new retaining ring so you don't have to use the old one. We will update the video again soon.

Wheel bearing grease I guess?

I think those are for other models. That pump kit fits BMW and Audi pumps too. The steps in the video are all you need for the 944.

is this the same kit for BMW e60 520i 2004?
You guys don’t sell kit anymore?
They do. Got one a month ago or so.
was this pump leaking?
Should say...Non petroleum grease, although that wasn't specified.
