Watching from California. My husband is from Nafplio and i have family from there too. Its cool to see people we recognize in the background and your tips are so spot on! My husband and his family worked the farmers market selling oranges for many years. We enjoy all of your videos!
After 2 am the prices decline 30-40%. This is how I fill my fridge for a week with 20 euros. Ωραίο κι αυτό το βίντεο Ντανιελ, μπράβο. Πρόσεχε το κορίτσι σου🙂
I compare the prices to here in Sweden, potatoes fir instsmce, ate about, 1,60 here. Carrots, 2 euro. Tomatoes vary but we get them imported from like the Netherlanfs. Did find tomatoes at about 2 euro a kilo this eeek at Lidl but thats rare, over the yrar they have been nearly 5 euros a kilo. Fresh fish forget it. Watermelon varies too over summer, we ger them from Spain sometimes Greece but the kilo price could be 4- 5 euros, mening a big heavy melon will be very expensive. Onions are about 1, 60 . Inflation has caused suchva rise in everything
I'm a Greek Canadian, and whenever I visit Greece, I always try to visit a farmer's market. It's something that everyone should do. For first, the prices are impeccable compared to Canadian prices! 2ndly, the tomatoes actually taste like tomatoes 😅 and finally, the screaming that goes on is out of this world!😅. Great video! You make me want to leave this cold country and move to Greece

I've been living in Crete for more than 6 years now, between Heraklion and Chersonissos and yeah, the quality of the products here in Greece is excellent. These videos are fantastic...for a halv greek that hasnt been able to go for many years, this is just wonderful to see❤ I saw carrots from Evia?? Thats where my father is from !
Just love getting these insights into regional Greek life, the market looks great! I think where visitors struggle is finding where/when the markets run.
They always take place at one of the most central streets of each town/neighbourhood. You won't miss it! In Nafplio it takes place on 25 Martiou Street every Wednesday and every Saturday!
Watching your great videos from Ajaltoun Lebanon , 25 kms North East of Beirut . I always go to the laikis when visiting Greece ( 5 to 6 times a year ) . And yes the Karpouzi and Feta combo is great 👍
The laiki quality and prices are always WAY better than the supermarket esp for fruit and veg. Have used them both in Nafplio and also in Athens, would not do anything else, even if your Greek is lacking, sign language goes a long way…👍👍👍
I’m watching from Australia.Thats exactly what I plan to do visit farmer on Saturday in Athens, also when I’m in Rhodes.I always eat feta and watermelon olives and mint in summer Australia
When it comes to fruits, vegetables, locally produced honey, fresh fish, Laiki Agora is the best option. Many households use the supermarket only for the cleaning products or some processed food...
Yes that's true. I live on Rhodes and I buy most of the things we eat either directly from the producers at the market or small shops around the corner: vegetables, fruit, honey, nuts, fish, meat, olive oil, sweets, bread and pies.
Greek garlic no comparison to chinas garlic that they sell on super markets, you should try this syrup of grapes with pancakes , you make pancakes and you heat a little of the syrup in the microwave it is the best, or you can put it in cookie dough
You THINK prices have gone up ..?? Come to Australia..lemons $1 each, Tomatoes $12 a kilo. SMOKES average $55 per pack , LAND rates $3500.p.a. and that in a Major country town 3hours from Sydney...petrol $2.10 a LITRE...AND ON AND ON AND ON...MAIN REASON we have decided to LEAVE and RETURN to GREECE....😊 CAN'T WAIT..!!!
Since childhood my mom was eating watermelon with cheese ( cow romanian cheese)...it was her own idea and personal liking and i never knew that its a custom greek favorit way of eating the watermelon. 😅
As a Greek i love Feta and i like watermelon but those 2 together? You can have my share... lol Much love from Athens! :) p.s. My uncle like pizza with yogurt for some weird reason!
The problem with the farmer's markets in Greece is that not all the produce is coming directly from the farms. The government allows retailers to sell their produce at the market. This causes price increases and lack of fresh produce. Many a times I find cheaper prices and fresher produce at the supermarkets.
@@bogdanpopescu1401 Apparently ash from Etna has been seen in Greece before. Perhaps it will again be seen again. Phreatomagmatic ash from the ongoing eruption of Etna reaching the Greek island of Cefalonia August 2003 Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research. Abstract On October 26, 2002, Etna volcano, Sicily (southern Italy), entered a new eruptive phase, characterised by the usual effusive activity from fissure vents located both on the southern and on the northern sector of the summit area. In addition, explosive events of unusual intensity were recorded at the beginning of the eruption and produced a substantial plume rich in fine ash particles and steam. On October 27, fine ash from the plume, blown by the wind, was reported falling on the island of Cefalonia, Greece, which is located approximately 500 km east of the volcano. In this communication, we report on the study of fine ash from the eruption as collected on Cefalonia. We elaborate on the nature of the peculiar type of explosion mechanism that led to such an unusual manifestation of Etna, which is phreatomagmatism. This finding draws a new picture of the eruptive scenario of this active volcano, and requires a careful evaluation of the hazard that similar events might pose in the future. Not just the surroundings of the volcano but also the aviation corridors of the southern Mediterranean area could be potentially affected.
Maybe it's just me, but it makes me crazy when I see grocery items from other countries being sold, when Greece produces the same items. With the Laiki, you know it's locally grown & much fresher.
Depends what you mean,😜 I mean most of the farmers are very simple people and use both very traditional and more modern methods, it really depends on the individual producer, what has access to or used to ect some don't even know what " organic" means while they might plant in a pretty " organic" manner while others might try to avoid some methods if they can 😉
Fruit & vegetables in Greece taste like nowhere else on Earth. Try them and see, no need for organic plus it’s illegal to modify food in any way in Greece. That why everything tastes fantastic
