Liverpool Lime St to London Euston | FIRST CLASS Train Review | Avanti West Coast | Is it worth it?

It was widely stated that Virgin West Coast was the best First Class product on the train network in the UK. But what about their successor - Avanti West Coast? Have they been able to pull out a suitable first class train product or is it sub par?

Avanti have really upped their game recently with first class. I travel to London from Lime Street for work between once and the times a month (twice in a week some weeks) and the first class offering is good, especially the breakfast. As for the drinks service, the record for having service end and all the glasses collected by the onboard staff northbound to Lime Street was Tamworth!

I feel that Avanti should do direct services from Manchester to Holyhead on SailRail, timed with ferry check-in and/or arrival times at Holyhead - changing trains at Chester can be a nightmare at the best of times, especially on TfW

New Irish subscriber here, living in Manchester 21 years with extended family still living in Ireland, whom I try to visit as often as I can - I love the people of Liverpool and I’ve passed through Liverpool on the overnight coaches to Dublin via Holyhead over the years - I just wish they would bring back the ferries from Liverpool old port to Dublin North Wall or Dun Laoire, with direct trains from Manchester Victoria to Liverpool Lime St - I’d love to see Avanti doing more direct trains from Manchester to Holyhead as I go SailRail to Dublin, as it’s such a pain on tiny TfW trains changing at Chester, Crewe or Lladnuo to Holyhead - what I do now on SailRail to increase my connection time at Chester is I get a Northern train from Manchester Victoria to Chester and Avanti from Chester to Holyhead, as Manchester Piccadilly platform 13 stresses me out, especially if coming from Metrolink trams from Shudehill/Market St, as many of the TfW trains don’t even call at Deansgate/Castlefield to allow convenient transfers from Metrolink

I've tried avanti and in the past Virgin Liverpool to London a number of times before they lost the contract I have to say virgin was a far superior product all round and you could get a decent bargain for first class if booked in advance

It’s worth it if you’re going to try first class anyway as it’ll work out cheaper than the standard first class ticket whatever happens!
