Thanks for finding my video and pressing play!
This is my third Virgin West Coast Trip Report and probably the most comprehensive. I really enjoyed this brief journey, of just over two hours. We travel from London Euston station and head for Liverpool Lime Street. City centre to city centre, it’s 2h12 minutes of pleasant scenery and tasty food, with breakfast served to my seat.
Virgin provide good value for money on this route. My ticket cost around £30 and included lounge access, free WiFi, onboard entertainment, and a cooked breakfast and beverages. Not bad. Of course, you have to book ahead to get the best deals!
Next UK train trip will be uploaded in 4 weeks’ time - it’ll be a belter, the GWR Pullman. Until then, I’ve got three air trips to publish.
The signalling maps featured can be found here: www.opentraintimes.com/maps
    Enjoy the report.
Do you have any ideas for future trip reports? Something you've never seen on TH-cam before? Why not suggest it to me in the comments? I read every single one! 👍🏻
Enjoy the video, and thanks for watching. If you subscribe, then thanks for being part of the channel!

Wow! Trains in Britain sure have changed. 50 years ago, the top speed between Birmingham and Manchester (Stockport, Cheshire) was 80, I believe. No chance for a cup of tea or a meal because the trains rocked so violently. We 18 - 19 year old punks carried 4 - 6 oz pocket flasks of whiskey, though, so that we could take a nip now and again. We never spilled a drop. The train from Manchester to Hull via Leeds was much slower, of course. Even slower was the cattle train to Edale, our take-off point for walks in the Pennines. Crewe looks like it hasn't changed at all! Your trip reports are always super, but the train reviews are the most special. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) from the bloke in Hawai'i who misses England.

+manu bird Thanks! Sadly I missed out on the really fun days of British Rail, where things ran according to the whim of the controller and everything cost next to nothing. I’d give good money to get back to the 1960s, just for a day, to have a ride on pre-Beeching railways.

Virgin's first class coaches and service both are fantastic. I had travelled from Kings Cross to Edinburgh in their first class coach. This was way back in the summer of 2017. I was visiting from Mumbai and it was an inter-city journey through the UK over several days on the trains. Also travelled down to York from Edinburgh. The routes are scenic and the food on the train was delicious. It was an amazing experience. Definitely worth revisiting.

British transport has improved a lot over the years but still lags behind a lot of other countries. A lot of old infrastructure under constant maintenance. The last mid range trip I did was worcester to Paddington that was £27 return fare...bog standard class! Virgin do good commutes.

I’ve only been on the Third Class virgin trains, with the chewing gum floor, the locked or blocked toilets and the standing room only. At least you got the blood sausage donated by the commuter classes and still had the nice touch of dead flies in the light fitting....always a virgin addition of luxury - extended to first class too it seems.

The power station adjacent to Runcorn is Fiddler's Ferry....The Rocksavage power station is a couple of miles away in a chemical plant once ran by ICI....It was built privately by ICI when Fiddler's Ferry wouldn't negotiate on the many millions they were billing them.

I live in Runcorn and use the statation to get Liverpool etc. al the time.
Also, is like poing out that the factory you saw leaving Runcorn is Fiddlers Ferry Power Station in Warrington. Rocksavage is on the over side and isn't quite as big as Fiddlers Ferry Power Station.
Other than that, great video as always. The train is long as usual

The Canadian you say? You'll love it! But much of the tracks are pretty 'rock and roll', especially through the mountains. I've done it several times and enjoyed it each time. If you get a sleeper (roomette), ask for one in the middle of a car if you want to get any sleep.

You don't truly appreciate the pendolino until you're forced to get a coach from victoria to the north. A long, cramped miserable journey. Last november I couldn't take the train due to losing my wallet and train tickets at miami for a flight into LHR. I had to take the megabus from victoria which took 7 hours.
Virgin would not allow me to reprint the tickets.

I can’t be the only one who loves the design of Euston, can I?😸😸

1:00 I'm a similar age to Paul (okay, slightly older) and Euston was the cutting edge of architecture when I was a kid. I have a fondness for 1960s/70s architecture. It is a bit unpopular now, but give it a few years and it will be as sought-after as Victorian design. I'm also of an age where my elder relatives thought that Victorian design was pretty awful, and they preferred 'modern'
6:17 If you don't eat your crusts, you won't get curly hair. Ohhh..!
One of the best things about these trains is if you travel off-peak, you can book into cattle-class and then upgrade for about £10 once you are on the train. And if you upgrade, you get free coffee and cake which is worth more than the upgrade fee.
Finally, what's the old joke? Ahhh, yes. When we were younger, we used to drive from Manchester to Liverpool to do some shopping, but somebody would always steal our car and we would have to get the train home. In the end, we got wise, and took the train to Liverpool and drove home....

I've learnt a lot on what you get for first class ticket not merely WiFi and comfortable seats and space. The good lounge and food on the train had me won. Ticket prices are that bad given if you buy it in advance.

Does it matter where you sit? Or do you get allocated a seat with your ticket?
