Pat! Terrific video - both the content (awesome as always) and the giggles. Huge shout-out to your audience - your followers are especially generous with ideas and suggestions - it's always worth scrolling down for conversation. Thanks for asking for input - I always learn something! Favorite tool: for total newbies, Kajabi has made everything easier.

You can NEVER have "too much" fun! Love your videos - this one was timely for me! Thank you!!!
Tools I've been using? Sadly, just Google search for keywords. :-/
So... BRILLIANT video - took NOTES! I'm in the process of getting more engaged with my audience; need to build up traffic, etc. to my almost 5-yr old blog that's still struggling with less than 100 unique visitors per day. Pathetic. LOL

    • @patflynn
      @patflynn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

100 uniques a day? I know a lot of people who would love to have 100 different people's attention every single day. Question is, what are you doing with it? I think even at 100 uniques per day you have opportunities to get to know and engage with those people. Keep 20 of them for the next day, and then you have 120.

Hey Pat - I launched the info blog in 2013 when I started vaping, as a way to help others learn more about vape devices too. End of 2016 I decided to monetize it with a Spreadshirt shop and designed t-shirts. 2017 is a blur (death of a VERY close family member). I was going to sell it during my depression; thankfully I didn't.
So now, new year, a bit more enthusiasm; joined a couple of vaping groups on Facebook so I'm getting some encouragement there. But the traffic nose-dived to less than 40-60/day because I hardly did anything with it all of last year..
I joined a couple of affiliate programs; so far just have banners on the sidebar. I want to get a new blog header graphic made and change the domain name to fit more what the blog is about.
I have 114 subscribers on my list but I'm only getting 3-5 opens and 0-1 click-throughs. So I have a lot of work to do. But the vaping industry is on a steady rise, so I don't want to miss out on any opportunities.
I think that about sums it up. LOL

Great video! Thanks so much, Pat! I use Facebook Groups, but a little differently than you mentioned. I simply tap into the conversations or even start conversations asking specific questions to learn more about the areas where people are struggling or need help. Also, on my website, once someone joins my online community, I specifically ask them to fill out a form to help me learn more about them. One of the questions is about the 3 biggest struggles in their life right now related to my business. That has really given me insight, but like you said, nothing beats sitting down with someone. So I've been scheduling time to Skype/FaceTime people in my community who are willing to share their struggles. Still in the middle of it, but really useful!

Right now, I'm in the learning mode - working through the 123 Affiliate program. For Tools, I use WordPress with the WooCommerce app that is integrated into my Infusionsoft customer management tool. I inherited these and am working to identify potential replacements to 1) simplify my processes and 2) reduce my costs. The best tool I am using right now is an excel file of improvements that I need to make that are ranked based on level of effort (1 = easy to 3) and expected impact (1 to 3 = major). I then prioritize into the following priority categories (1 = easy + major impact; 2 = easy + moderate impact or moderate effort + major impact; 3= easy + minor or moderator + moderate or hard + major; 4 = moderate + major or hard + moderate; 5 = hard + minor impact). This helps me schedule and focus on the biggest bang for the buck.

The tool I use most recently is Buffer, to manage my social media presence. It took me some time to get used to the way it works but now it's a dominant tool in my arsenal. I enjoyed this video and it got me thinking about ways I can gather more information. One of the simplest things that works is to just ask. I do that on my facebook page and in my email welcome sequence. However, I realized that I'm missing out on a lot of potential from visitors to my web site, so I'm creating something new.
Using Gravity Forms, I'm creating a short survey page on my site. The first question asks the reader to check the boxes for typical issues in my niche that they find frustrating. Multiple answers are fine. The next question takes that same list of topics and puts them in a drop-down list, and I ask the reader to select the item that is MOST frustrating for them.
In order to get users to find this survey, I'm creating a pop-up form with OptinMonster to give them a chance to participate or just dismiss the form. I have no idea if this will work, but I figure it's worth a try.

The answerthepublic site is an amazing search engine! Thank you for that! Oh my gosh Filter by Channel on YT?! What?! I would never have even thought of that! Man this whole video rocks!! Even your shooting is pretty darn impressive! :-) Though I was worried about the equipment you were shooting toward.
I think if you were a real sniper, there would be a few extra casualties. :-p
I always call Google my co-worker. I couldn't do it without Google so that's my biggest tool. I try to ask people in my niche questions, but get very few answers, whether in email or social media. Honestly for content "tools" I look to you and Derek Halpern for help.

Great info, Pat! Small package, big help!
My current new tool: Adobe Muse. I'm rebuilding my blog to be THE blog style for the bloggers like me that narrate their posts for the "mobile" readers.
Asking questions is kind of my thing. I gotta know if you hit the targets in this vid on the first shot.
    Thanks again for resources

Love this video! I always hear people telling me to find my audience, but never mentioning any way to do that, so this was exactly what I needed! :D One tool that has been helping me organize my thoughts is Coggle, it's a super basic mind mapping web app.

Just brilliant, Pat! These tips are SOOOOO helpful especially the TH-cam searches. Thank you! I'm currently exploring various social media platforms to determine where my potential customers are. I suspect I'm not doing this very efficiently though. Looks like BuzzSumo can help with that!

As per your call to action Pat: a set of tools that I've found useful; XMind - for mind mapping, I use iThoughts (which can open XMind docs) on iOS connected to Dropbox so that I can work on the same mind map either on my laptop/desktop, or on the go on my phone & tablet.
