    "A Clever, Eccentric Thriller in the Hitchcock Vein!" - Creature Features Movie Guide
    Stacy Keach is Pat Quid, a lone trucker who plays games to keep his sanity on long hauls through the desolate Australian Outback. Jamie Lee Curtis is a free-spirited hitchhiker looking for excitement with a game of her own. And somewhere up ahead is a maniac in a van whose game may be butchering young women along the highway. But when the killer decides to raise the stakes, Quid's game becomes personal ... and the rules of this road are about to take some very deadly turns.
    Director Richard Franklin (Psycho II) packs plenty of Hitchcock-like twists and suspense into this sly shocker that was nominated for four Australian Film Institute Awards and remains one of the most surprising thrillers of the '80s.

    That's lucky, an American truck driver happens to be driving through Australia and happens to pick up an American hitchhiker. I always find it funny how in some movies they randomly have half the cast be from a certain country, which isnt always Americans but often is.

      The Australian actors were not happy either. Australian grindhouse liked to use American actors.

      Even as an American I never understood that. Sometimes even if no amwricans were involved in production movies will sometimes just randomly have an American, British, or (lately) Chinese actors for little to no reason. I saw some movie the other day, B film, made by Israelis and the leads were mostly Americans on vacation in Tel Aviv and a few weeks ago I saw some C tier Action film where the leads were half american and half chinese even though the producers were Australian and the film was made and set in Thailand and mainly concerned southeast asian politics (domt remember the names of either film but they were both made within the last decade).

      Watch a movie called Razorback from 1984, its mostly Aussie and a pretty good creature feature.

      @arthas640 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Autistic_Pixel I've heard of it and keep forgetting to watch it. I love creature features but the American ones get kind of formulaic (especially when it comes to using the same few animals: croc, bigass snake, and great white shark).

      To make you think it even could of felt like a Carpenter film, which I think it does, now you mention it, doesn't need his help at all on this, if it has that Carpenter presence, whether he was going for it or not.

    Stacy Keach had it easy driving a European semi tractor, those manual transmissions in European rigs have synchronizers built into their transmissions. Here stateside the manual transmissions are constant mesh, meaning that if you can’t “float” the gears you have to double clutch to shift.

      No they didn't. They came specced with a twin turbo V8 and a 13sp Road Ranger and the option of an 18sp. Very common, even though Kenworth had and still have a factory in the city they depart from. That factory had 3000 workers in the 1980 period.

    0:22- It's about time we got Steven Spielberg's Duel from the truck driver's point of view.
    0:31- Pff. It's 1981. The movies Fantasies and Private Lessons told us that there are no rules.
    In this time, it didn't matter if it was a slasher movie like Halloween II, a true-crime movie like Death of a Centerfold: The Dorothy Stratten Story, or Road Games, someone is trying to kill Jamie Lee Curtis...
    2:01- ..And everyone ELSE on the planet apparently.

    • @timothyivey5497
      @timothyivey5497 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because there was no PG-13 back then, and it really didn't warrant an R rating - no blood and gore; no nudity or sex; nothing particularly disturbing other than a head in a bucket; and very mild language; plus the filmmakers wanted to make more money by admitting a broader audience, especially teens.

      Leyland P76 built at Leyland Australia's Zetland plant in Sydney between 1973 and 1974.
      It was an ambitious locally designed large family sedan with British Leyland at the helm, but sent Leyland Australia broke. They used to be a fairly regular sight on Aussie roads. Only car clubs have them now.
