    Great video. I carry a 351pd in the Mika pocket holster 80% of the time loaded with Federal punch ammo. I did an upgrade on the springs 12lb main spring and 9lb rebound spring and extended firing pin from tk custom. Also removed the key lock and plugged the hole. I polished all internal parts. It is now a pleasure to put 100 rounds a month through. It works 100% no light strikes. The key is using good ammo. Its a great revolver that i have great confidence in. Thanks for the video.

    I would definitely pick the 22 magnum, lighter weight, more capacity and better sights. For me that would be a no brainer. But a carry option is kind of an individual thing what works for one person might not work for another. Both are very nice guns. Thanks for the great video

    I like the 351 for pocket carry, it’s easy to draw quickly with a sticky holster. Only issue I’ve run in to is I have to clean it every hundred rounds or so when I’m using cheap practice ammo. I got lazy once after I put a little over 100 rounds through and didn’t clean it and next time at the range the cylinder completely locked up after about 14 rounds. I took it home and cleaned it and it works fine, so it was just the dirty rimfire gumming it up. Also Luckygunner did a decent review of WMR and Gold Dot expanded close to .38 with good penetration out of a Ruger snub, he had several misfires but I haven’t had a misfire in close to 500 rounds with the 351c.

    Subscription earned. I own the 351PD, and have carried it both in-pocket and IWB. For the latter, I can heartily recommend the DeSantis Clip Grip.
    S&W’s .22 Magnums offer low recoil, adequate power, superior capacity, and ease of carry for those with sufficient hand strength to pull the necessarily-heavy (but smooth) trigger.
    Excellent video. The scale and “load out weights” for each gun are very useful information.

    I have both types, and I prefer the 351. Seven rounds vs five, and back on target much more quickly with the 351. And of course, the weight difference. I’m thinking of getting a 351PD to go with the C model. And BTW, I have a 43C in 22LR for cheap practice. Love those J Frames.

    For me it's the 642. I just like the bigger hole and power end of it. I reload so I cook up the type of rounds I like to carry, and by that I can lighten the load a tad by going to a 110gr bullet and even a little slower loading to aid in recoil management for follow up shots. I do like the wad cutter load and it's my go to defense round for the .38spl. IMO, you can't do much better for a defense round in a wheel gun. As for .22mag, I think it is plenty for self defense and having 7 vs 5 is a no brainer, but the 351C is a chunk in other ways, that being price and availability that I really can't justify for the two extra rounds and the slight weight advantage. Again for me, the 642 is right up there with being one of the best snub options and with the right loading is just hard to beat for defense work. If I did end up getting the 351C it would most likely end up sitting guard duty in the safe along with several other guns I wanted at the time but seldom use for anything. Personally, I like the centerfire cartridge over the rimfire and IMO, that's the only clear advantage over the 351C; the weight is negligible and only shows up while in the pocket. I like the grips you have on your 642, gonna look for some of those for mine. Thanks for the video, enjoyed watching it. TC

    I just picked up a 351C today from my local gun shop. First revolver for me. I'm looking for pocket-carry gun and the 351C is what I choose. Gave it a clean & lube and going to the range tomorrow. I'm familiar with 22WMR as I have a PMR30 that's fun to shoot, but the 351C is option for me in hot Texas to pocket carry. I am amazed at how lightweight it is.

    I use a wheel gun for my CCW as well and thought I had to make this exact choice. Then I found out about the charter arms professional in .32 H&R with 7 shot capacity and chose that instead. Its a little extra weight and a 3" barrel but that was worth the price to get those 7 shots and have them not be rimfire.

    I've been looking for a 351 with no luck. I like the fact that it's very light and holds more rounds than the 642. I did find a Ruger LCR but it weighs as much as the 642 and only holds 6 .22wmr. Go with the 351. Just my two cents.

    I own a 642. Out of the box, the trigger was atrocious, so I did a trigger job to slick it up and as well as lighten the springs, and now it shoots pretty great. I normally just shoot .38 wadcutters out of it and I have found it to be perfectly reliable with the better trigger. I wouldn't pick the 642 without a trigger job and I would hesitate to lighten the trigger pull on a rimfire, but I haven't shot this particular .22 mag, so I can't speak to its shootability. I say go with whichever one you are more accurate with... shot placement counts more than anything else

    I am a huge fan of the 38 special and 32 S&W but I have to say I am really getting a hankerin' for a rimfire. What is the noise level of the .22 mag compared to standard pressure .38 special? I would be inclined to go LR just due to the reputation of the .22 mag being loud. I touched off a chief's special outdoors once (key word once) without hearing protection. I imagine my tactical hearing would be zero after letting one loose indoors.

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kind of crazy, but there are some reasons. Mainly, the 351C is what they call an AirLite model vs an AirWeight model like the 642. The Airlites are typically lighter, scandium frames (aluminum) and the cylinder on the 351C is aluminum as well. Also the 351C has other features to lighten such as machined grooves to reduce metal where possible. Still, it is a bit crazy to pay more for the .22 vs the .38, but its worth it in my opinion. Thanks for watching!!

      @@HillbillyMusings that makes complete sense now! Thank you for clearing that up. I wish they would make a regular version with non exotic metals to bring the price down so more people can get them. I was able to get a Taurus .22wmr steel alloy version for under $400. If smith made a similar version even with 1 less round capacity, I would def pick the smith.

      Most ballistics reports that I've seen show that the 22 Mag does have a slight edge (very slight) when you're using the short barrel specific rounds in both calibers (ie, Punch, Gold Dot, etc...). Been thinking about grabbing the s&w351 since lately I been carrying my lcp .22 and I really carry it because of the weight I’m very rarely in danger and rather be armed and comfortable rather than the opposite. Doesn’t the .22lr version have 8 rounds? If it did that would be too hard of a choice for me to make 7mags or 8 lr idk I’m okay with a .22 at the end of the day. I’d like the pd model with this more slick grip I like the single action option for range use and just to have it. Looks better and I haven’t had snagging issues with any of my revolvers. Yet.

      The Smith 22 LR version is the 43C and it is a 8 round cylinder. Very nice gun, but I would probably choose the 351C for 7 rounds of .22 Mag vs 8 of 22 LR. I wish Smith made one with an exposed hammer though with SA/DA capability, but they don't. Ruger doesn't either unless you go to the 3" barrel LCR.. The 340PD. I have a 442, 351C & the 340PD. Weight wise, it's the same as the 351C.
    As you know, the trigger on the 351C is very stiff & it can't be fooled with, or misfires will happen.
    No, I do NOT shoot 357's in the 340PD. Mine is loaded with Buffalo Bore Standard Pressure 110 grain 38spl
    Barnes (all copper) bullet. Yes, it's even more expensive than the 351C, but for the weight

    Trigger pull is way to hard on the 351C

    Only drawback of the 351c is the trigger, which is horrible. I have a 442PC and K6S and they've spoiled me for revolvers. Having said that, a 351 is in my future.

      Yep its a harsh trigger, but your 442 and K6S will be like butter after a session with the 351C :) Thanks for watching!!

    I have owned several 642s. They are nice guns but they're gone. My 351c isn't going anywhere.

  • @nemo5335
    @nemo5335 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    22 magnum isn't as powerful as a .38. There is no getting around that.
    But 22 magnum is not a joke. It is NOT 22lr. If you load it with the right ammo, it is very effective with almost no recoil. You can get more power, but it comes at a cost of being harder to shoot. I think 22 mag is fine, to be honest. If I have a problem that cannot be solved with 7 rounds of 22 magnum, I have a problem which probably cannot be solved with any pistol.

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  ปีที่แล้ว

      You got that right on the .22 magnum, if 7 rounds ain't enough then you got a big problem. Thanks for watching!!

    If you just want a "get off me" gun, either will bark loud enough to achieve that goal. Federal Punch in .22 Mag is no slouch of a round either. Plus you'll get 2 more rounds to help seal the deal. The only time I'm carrying a snubbie is as a backup gun. Then I will carry my On-duty Bulldog in .44 spl. If I'm just running to the store for milk or some other quick task, where I'm in sweats or shorts. My EDC is a Glock 19, and I've carried it nearly every day since August of 2000.

      Easy to make shots at 40yds with the 351c too.

    642 all day. The 38 special +P is way more powerful than the 22 and there are many videos out there which prove this. Secondly the center fire round is more reliable than a rimfire round. Third the trigger; both suck when new but the 642 can get lighter springs and an action job and is much better after. With a 22 you can't do that, you're stuck with the heavy clunky trigger pull. Fourth is cost of ammo, 38 spcl and 22 Mag are both high. Only 22 lr is cheap. Fifth the weight difference is negligible. They are both very light guns. Sixth, the county sheriff in my county will not grant a CCW with any 22 caliber pistol. It has to be 32 or better. Thanks!

    I like revolvers, but the only way I would ever carry a snubby would be as a back up to my main carry. You should always prepare for the worse and hope for the best. A 5 shot revolver anything isn't preparing for the worse. I know about FBI statistics and rounds per typical shooting, Can you guarantee that's the kind of shooting you'll be involved in? You owe it to your loved ones who depend on you to protect them to carry something more substantial. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, that's just my two cents.

      I agree, but sometimes a quick run to the store and you want something, no need something you can drop into your jacket or hoodie pocket.
      Rather have a .22 with 7-8shots on me than my 21rnd pistol at home.

    While I love both guns and .22WMR is my all time #1 choice for bobcat, coyote, raccoon and grey fox, it is NOT my choice for human zombies. I’ll take the .38spl over a .22magnum anyway of the week. I’ve been carrying a j-frame .38spl as a backup gun now in law enforcement for 32 years and still going. .38 is much better than .22WMR

      LOL, a .22lr pistol will deal with the pitbull.
      .38 on a bear, might be better curling up like a ball. then shoot it in the balls with either caliber if it gets to rough.
