I really like this style of video where it's more instructional, where you explain why you're doing a thing and why other thing doesn't work for you. I find that if I watch a bujo video that's more "just chatting", I find myself getting distracted, doing something else, then rewinding the video to actually focus on what they did. As a visual learner, I also prefer top-down because I can see how certain spreads are set up. I really enjoyed this minimal set up! I love the more minimal looks! And yes, I use my future log all year bc that's where I track people's birthdays and anniversaries. I make handmade cards and I send them to family and friends every year. It's how I don't forget!
Hi Jess, firstly I wanna say sry for my poor English...I'm from Germany ;) I've now watched a bunch of videos for Bullet Journaling and I was so intimidated by all of these creative people. I almost quitted BuJo after 2 weeks of trying because my spreads looked so ugly and I never will be able to draw like all those Bullet Journalists on Social Media. But your way of Journaling encourages me to go on. Minimalist BuJos are beautiful as well! Thanks for making me realize that! I love your channel
Very classy Jess! I love the elegant script you used for most of the headers, very swishy and beautiful. I prefer voice overs but like different camera angles too for interest :)
Great to see some representation for more minimal layouts! I do use a future log for my personal bullet journal, this year's in Alastair style and next year's probably either calendex or a sort of compressed multi-monthly (so there's a little bit of space reserved for every day). For work I don't, because it's easier to use my outlook calendar as a future log and monthly at work - everything I have scheduled on a month/year scale is meetings that have to go via outlook anyway.
Yeah I used Outlook for my work stuff too, and add some of my personal tasks in there with my personal email 💪 That's probably part of the reason why my future log use is varied 😋💜
I like using a future log, it helps with days off school and other important days. I do like the video today, I like the mix up of views and the live and voice over. I’ve already said I like your voice, it’s relaxing even when you are being goofy. Love your stuff as always!
I love the simplicity of this journal, I have been journaling for a while and this year I decided to change the wsy I have done it. I even switched to a B5 from a A5, I dont use a future log because I have a organizer due to medical but at the end of the year it would come in handy. Great Book my Goals would be different but pages would be similar. thsnk you for sharing and yes I am terrified to start a clean journal, werent we taught not to write in books. lol
Beautiful layout! I feel like my bujo style is so different than yours, so getting to watch your videos is like indulging a part of myself I rarely use.
What a lovely theme... it's decorative yet minimal. 💖 Future Log - I wouldn't be able to bullet journal without it. I even do my project planning in it.
I hate the new bujo nerves!! I pencil things out to combat this as well but sometimes even that doesn’t work for me. I’ll chalk that one up to my dyslexia. Hope all is well with you and yours. Sending you good vibes.
I really enjoyed the style of chatting as you showed your journal this time! It surprised me because it felt different, and I am glad that you mentioned it because I couldn't quite tell if it was just in my head. XD
I started using a futur log after the first lockdown. I stopped using my digital calendar and used my bujo more. So I chose to set up a future log instead of going back to digital. A year takes 2 spreads. I have 3 sections for each month: appointments but also in pencil activities in the library and others I might tant to go to; school days off and events for the kids and birthdays. I love your style. I also set up my yearly section in black and gold. :)
First and foremost, these layouts made my heart sing! I love all your work, even when it’s more elaborate, but this is just…stunning!!!!! I do use my future log quite a bit. There are only two places I record events, appointments, or tasks: in my future log or in my monthly setup which is one-week-per-page done in Dutch door style for the entire month. And finally, one of the things I love about your videos is the very clear (probably scripted) narration. I did not mind the more live version, as long as you don’t say “like” every third word or “and….YEAH!” (please, please, please!). Just as a general comment, you’re my absolute favorite bullet journal creator.
I definitely use a future log. Most people set it up starting with the current year January but it makes much more sense to me to make that January of the following year since I’m about to set up January’s monthly layout and don’t need a future log for it. Love your washi tape masking trick to make those highlighted rows perfect!
after ~4 years of bullet journaling, i finally included a future log that starts in january! i never needed one before, but my life has begun picking up, so it's going to be really helpful in 2022
The first year I had a future log. I haven't used one since....but I will be using one this year because I have a lot of future things I need to track this year.
I never thought to make a spread for future spreads, I love this idea and will be using it! Yes, please continue with the side angles. I love that you are very detailed from the lines you are drawing out to what type of pen you are using. It's helping with my shopping options. I love how you have this, new and happy subscriber!
I use a future log to have a place to list all the birthdays I need to remember more than anything. My boyfriend is the last of 13 children and with most of his siblings having 3-4 kids, I won't remember all the birthdays otherwise! Also this minimal style looks so nice. I love your artsy spreads but these are good too! There's something very aesthetic about them.
Jashii, thank you for all your informative and well organized videos! I'm new to bullet journaling and I've been binge watching your channel to get ideas and inspiration. LOVE IT!!! All your hard work and dedication is much appreciated. Wishing you the very best in this new year from the US.
Good evening 👋😊 JC🌹 Thank you for sharing your January journal pages set up they are so neat and full of details stay safe and be careful 🙏✍️🖌️🎨💌🌹👋 enjoy your week ahead too 👍🦄☺️
I'm trying a future log for the first time this year. I'm looking forward to it, and I think it might help! We shall see! Thanks for sharing. The minimal log will be an asset.
Elegant layout!! I wanted to go with minimal layout too but then I found my planningwithkay stickers..... No regrets 😂 I do use a future log for all my appointments.
Haha I can SO relate to that. I was wella conflicted regarding this setup, like most months, in not knowing whether I wanted minimal, or arty, or neutral, or full colour explosion 😅💜
Love your minimilist set up. Possible to do one for work and projects and meetings? To organise time and be more productive in searching for the items and projects I need.
I have been bullet journaling since 2012 and have never used a future log, but for 2022 i want to try it. In colombia we have a ton of bank holidays and they are always changing and i always have to look them up on a weekly basis, i am going to make a future log just for the holidays because honestly, it can be very useful. For my appointments and other stuff, i am a google calendar type of person.
So brave of you to do such a minimal theme! I'd get so nervous with how exposing it is - but these spreads are stunning! Re. your future log question; I always used to put one in in previous years but NEVER used it or referred to it throughout the year... maybe it's because I never found a format or layout that worked for me, but I've decided that in my 2022 journal I won't be including a future log! I put events into my phone calendar as and when they're scheduled and then that's moved into my monthly BuJo calendar when I set up for each month and then from there I transfer things into each weekly spread as I set up each week! x
If I got rid of all other start of journal spreads, I would have to keep my future log. It’s my most-used spread as it serves as both my year at a glance and the place where I make note of future commitments. On a separate note, are you going to have a video where you set up your teaching pages? I love seeing how other teachers use their bullet journals for planning.
That tip with the ruler is always useful to remember. I do use a future log. I also have one at the back of my journal for the following year as well. 🙂 really nice fonts you’ve used on a lot of these spreads.
I like the concept of the future log, and when I actually use it, it is very helpful. The trick is actually remembering to use it. I prefer to use a single, thick journal for each year. But I also use a modified academic year (Sep-Aug). So my future log spans 12-15 months. I went minimal this year as well. Thin black lines with a fudenosuke soft tip, highlights with single tan marker, and washi that has some vintage pictures. I basically cut it apart and use it as stickers here and there. I will use a red fineliner to outline a date that is critical for one reason or another, but those are few and far between.
I wasn’t going to add a future log, but after reading some of the comments here I feel like it’s a great place for birthdays and anniversaries so I’m going to do one.
Really love the minimal lines and the gold accent. Just started to add them myself and it's very rewarding. I used a 0.38mm grey ink for some boxes as well and it gives the right amount of thickness the eye can detect without being overwhelming! I used a 005 Prismacolor Fineliner in Sepia I used for the first time and I liked it, too. I think it's nice to start small if you're unsure, because you can build on it if you need more. And yes, aaaaall the pencil-ing in before inking lol Omg Jess, it was so funny: I was filling out my weekly check boxes and turned my ruler upside down at the same time you mentioned it XD
I use a future log mostly for birthdays and holidays, but for some doctors appointments as well. My future log runs from February of the year pf my bujo to January of the following year though. Anything that would go in my January future log just gets put into my January set up. I also rely heavily on my Google calendar.
I also really like your style of videoing! I like chatty videos as well as voice-overs. I also really like camera angle changes but not a necessity because I know that makes life a bit more difficult for you. You're doing great! 😊
i use a future log, but draw from both that and gcal to set up new months just so I don’t miss anything my dingus past self decided to only make digital. I liked this format! The real time and timelapses felt like they were used where necessary to make the video as dynamic as possible. The side views are cute but not necessary for me, bc I’m always only half looking at the screen when watching TH-cam videos (gotta love that ADHD), but I can see it being really good for other people.
I brought my journal to start my first ever one I’m binge watching your videos they are amazing. I really want to get started but I am scared it will look bad and upset me starting in June instead of January and I don’t know what order to put my pages in
I’ll be using a future log for the first time in 2022 so will have to update on that. So far I just have birthdays in it but I plan to add big events that will be happening in my city later in the year that I want to go to, and other events that come up. I also have a Semester Overview spread that will be like a future log for my spring classes assignment due dates.
It's mainly a recreation of this font: www.myfonts.com/fonts/dhanstudio/australia-script?tab=individualStyles with some minor differences on certain letters 😄
Okay so totally dumb question, but how do you use the meal planner? Will you put sticky notes in each box for your planning? I ask because I have been trying to incorporate in my bujo for a looooong time but haven't been able to do it. I love this one and would be curious how you plan to use it :) Thanks for the set up ideas!!
I tried a future log with columns for each member of my family. I am going to do a simpler design this year and maybe only do four months at a time. This is because flipping back all the time was too annoying.
I started my current journal in September to coincide with the start of the (US) school year, so instead of a future log I have a "year at a glance" style setup with the official school calendar. One side has mini calendars with colored dots (zig markers) on the dates & a key, and the other side is a list of what the important dates are each month.
@@JashiiCorrin They are great. I should have picked up the set of 12 instead of the set of 4. I have the Ohuhu knockoffs as well, which came with metallics & a gray & a brown. My habit tracker this week is filled with shiny gold dots and I **LOVE** it.
Mine is even more minimal. I only have a Birthdays spread, one spread divided between what to Read, Watch, Do and things I Need, and a Christmas spread. I do use a Future Log in a Calendex style as I have a child that has many medical appointments that are booked months ahead. Also - what washii tapes do you use, in rip the paper every time I try and use them for masking? Thanks for your great videos.
I mainly just use some cheaper washi tapes, or really just any that I don't like the design of 😝 I find that if you're using washi which sticks too well to the page, I try sticking in on my desk or just "manhandling" it a bit with my fingers to make is lose some of the stickiness 😄💜
I dont set up a year at a glance bc I make a future log. Its also my birthday and special even tracker. I usually separate my future log into personal and professional sections
Yeah typically if I have a future log with mini calendars, I won’t use a year at a glance, or on the flip side if I have a year at a glance, my future log won’t have mini calendars 😂
I use a Future Log, but it's set up like a monthly page - a monthly calendar with boxes to write in - they're all at the front of my journal and I don't do a monthly page as a result
I tried that for 2020 😄 But then it seemed to be the year with the most inconsistent use of my journal 😅 Should have another go at it in one of my journals for 2022!
Loved this layout. Do you think that this journal will last longer with the minimal layouts and less of the yearly setup spreads? Or do you think it will still last you the six months? I do have a future log in my journal, it's handy for public holidays and some birthdays. I've done it very similarly to your mid year set up future log. It is about the only thing that I go back to frequently lol
Thanks Tammie! I'm actually thinking that this journal might last me less time than my usual ones 😂 I'm planning on having a fair few more pages related to my teaching stuff in here and was probably going to have a few more monthly trackers 🤔 but we'll see! 💜😄
Sure! It was my take on this one: www.myfonts.com/fonts/dhanstudio/australia-script?tab=individualStyles so some letters are pretty much identical (or as close as I could get them!) and some are a little different 😄
Learn is a strong word 😝 I would very much like to practice this lettering more and make it more “natural” to me, but I copied all these from a font I found online 💪
I use my future log for work days off (teacher 👋🏻 ) as well as birthdays (I have 5 siblings, 18 nieces/nephews) and now I have nieces/nephews old enough to start having babies 😱
I've used a future log for my first bullet journal, it definitely helps me plan ahead. In your video you said this is your everyday journal, how many do you have and what do you use them all for?
I have a video where I talk through each of them: th-cam.com/video/MkJkFGTwUPE/w-d-xo.html but for the start of 2022 I'm using 5 main journals: - the everyday journal - the yearly collections journal (th-cam.com/video/FOWXAWMePqE/w-d-xo.html) - the content creating journal - the long-term collections journal - the drawing practice journal
@@JashiiCorrin now that's a great idea! But it means I'll have to change my whole layout! Ahahaha!!! But now I'm thinking I'll use this layout with sticky notes to record recipe book and page number! Oh! And also, I love the future log! I'm combining the year at a glance and future log for next year. And going to put in 2023.... I use the year at a glance to make notes for the following year... Thanks for responding!
My future log is my lifeline. I'm chronically ill, so I have many doctors appointments and tests throughout the year. I also have memory issues, if I don't write stuff down I absolutely will forget. We have every other Friday off, so my future log keeps me from having to do the math every time I make an appointment. Absolutely necessary!
Oh for sure, can totally see how that would make it a staple for you! 💪💜
Hope your illness get cured in 2022
I unterstand you so much, you no ideia 🤣
That makes a lot of sense
Hugs
I’m loving the style of your future log. I’ll definitely use it as inspiration for mine. However, I need a calendar. I like to highlight that calendar for quick reference. My future log is my brain.
Totally could do the future log in this style over two spreads to make room for calendars 💪
I've been bullet journaling for ages now & I learned something new from your video! Flip the ruler & there's less seeping..wow thanks!
Glad I could teach you a tip! 😄💜
I massively burned out in November doing very decorative spreads so having minimal 'start of 2022' spread inspiration is going to help me get back into the swing of things.
Glad you liked the more minimal style this time around and thanks for the feedback regarding the video! 💜😄
I love how well you explain everything and take the time for all the why's and how's! And this is a beautiful minimal set up!
Thanks Kirsten! Glad the explanations are appreciated 😄💜
I love the more minimal looks!
And yes, I use my future log all year bc that's where I track people's birthdays and anniversaries. I make handmade cards and I send them to family and friends every year. It's how I don't forget!
Oh nice! 😄💜 I used to make handmade cards too! Has been a hot minute since my last one though 😅

I really like how this came out, and the back and forth between real-life and voiceover narration! Also, I love that font, does it have a name?
The reference font I used is called Australia Script by Dhan Studio 😄💜

Most welcome! Glad you liked it! 😄💜
The smudging under the ruler is such an issue for me! Thanks for the tip!
Hope it helps Danielle! 😄💜💪
I liked this style of video! It feels more personal (whether you like that or not is also important)
I’m not against personal 😄💜

If I got rid of all other start of journal spreads, I would have to keep my future log. It’s my most-used spread as it serves as both my year at a glance and the place where I make note of future commitments.
On a separate note, are you going to have a video where you set up your teaching pages? I love seeing how other teachers use their bullet journals for planning.
I'm planning on having a setup video for them, yeah! Still have to decide what pages I want to use though 😋💜
Absolutely agree about being nervous putting pen to paper in new journals. I’m coming up to year 5. 😂
That tip with the ruler is always useful to remember. I do use a future log. I also have one at the back of my journal for the following year as well. 🙂 really nice fonts you’ve used on a lot of these spreads.
Thanks! I like the idea of having a back-of-journal future log, what a cool idea! 😄💜
Lol same, I find remembering to use it…challenging 😅 your start of journal setup sounds pretty! 😄 I like the idea of circling important dates 💪
I just set up my 2022 bullet journal set up too and love keeping it more minimal and easy 🥰🥰 love the lettering you used!!
Thanks Caitlin! 😄💜
Such a great theme! Loved the video!
Thanks Anna 😄💜
I love this!!!!!
Thanks! 💜😄 glad you enjoyed it!
And yes, aaaaall the pencil-ing in before inking lol
Omg Jess, it was so funny: I was filling out my weekly check boxes and turned my ruler upside down at the same time you mentioned it XD
Aww cool, thanks for the feedback regarding the editing and funny that we were doing the same thing as the same time while you watched! 💜😄
Love the style
Thanks Heather! 💜😄
i use a future log, but draw from both that and gcal to set up new months just so I don’t miss anything my dingus past self decided to only make digital. I liked this format! The real time and timelapses felt like they were used where necessary to make the video as dynamic as possible. The side views are cute but not necessary for me, bc I’m always only half looking at the screen when watching TH-cam videos (gotta love that ADHD), but I can see it being really good for other people.
lol, can relate to having a dingus past self 😂💜 Thanks for the feedback regarding the video itself!
I really enjoyed this! I need to simplify my bullet journal. I made it so complicated that I don’t even use half of the spreads!😜
Ooof that's tough! Relatable though, haha 😂😫💜
I brought my journal to start my first ever one I’m binge watching your videos they are amazing. I really want to get started but I am scared it will look bad and upset me starting in June instead of January and I don’t know what order to put my pages in
Very helpful!
Thanks Janet! 😄💜 glad to hear it!
I'm going to have a term overview layout in my teaching-related section too; I find it helpful to have all those school-related dates separate 😄💜
Such a pretty setup 😍💕
Thanks Danique! 😄💜
wait oh my god that looks so cute I-
cant believe I already set up my 2022 bujo :(
Well depending on how long it lasts (mine only normally last 6 months) you could always save this style for your next one? 💜😄
Hey Jess. Excited like usual
Hi Steph! 😄 Hope you enjoyed the video!
Love the look of this! I do love the style of lettering. Did you make it up yourself or was there somewhere you practiced/got inspiration from?
It's mainly a recreation of this font: www.myfonts.com/fonts/dhanstudio/australia-script?tab=individualStyles with some minor differences on certain letters 😄
Okay so totally dumb question, but how do you use the meal planner? Will you put sticky notes in each box for your planning? I ask because I have been trying to incorporate in my bujo for a looooong time but haven't been able to do it. I love this one and would be curious how you plan to use it :) Thanks for the set up ideas!!
Yup! Most likely it’ll be sticky notes 😄 either that or I’ll use erasable pen/pencil ☺️
I've been meaning to get some of those Zig Markers, they look awesome! 😮💜
this is so fun!! if possible, could you share where you found this font?
Sure! It was my take on this one: www.myfonts.com/fonts/dhanstudio/australia-script?tab=individualStyles so some letters are pretty much identical (or as close as I could get them!) and some are a little different 😄
@@JashiiCorrin thanks so much!!
I love your cursive bouncy writing! Where did you learn it? I can brush letter ok but looking to expand my horizons thanks!
Learn is a strong word 😝 I would very much like to practice this lettering more and make it more “natural” to me, but I copied all these from a font I found online 💪
@@JashiiCorrin Needs to find this font lol
www.myfonts.com/collections/australia-script-font-dhanstudio?tab=individualStyles
Beautiful setup (sorry I'm late ._.)I just realised I use that same pen
Nice! I enjoy the pen, even if the dry time is a little longer than ideal for me 😝💜
Is there anything better than opening a new journal!?
It's certainly up there, haha 💜
As somebody who has forgotten how to spell their name before 🙄 I fully endorse doing everything in pencil first 🤣
Haha oh no Tracey! 😅 #TeamPencilFirst 💜
I have a video where I talk through each of them: th-cam.com/video/MkJkFGTwUPE/w-d-xo.html but for the start of 2022 I'm using 5 main journals:
- the everyday journal
- the yearly collections journal (th-cam.com/video/FOWXAWMePqE/w-d-xo.html)
- the content creating journal
- the long-term collections journal
- the drawing practice journal
Never mind, just watched your 2022 line up video 🤣
@@JashiiCorrin thank you, I totally missed that one!
Hi 👋🏻 Jess, I subscribed!! Really your channel... see you on Cindy’s Live!
Hi Liza! 😄💜
With the meal planner, will you use pencil so you reuse the one page for the whole quarter, or did you duplicate it 12 times?
I’m going to reuse the one page 😄 either with pencil or sticky notes 💪 I’ll then record what I actually end up eating on my meal log 💜
How do you fill the meal page? Are you planning to eat every week the same meals? Or are you planning to do the same page every week? Every month?
I’m going to fill it in either with post-it notes or just pencil so I can change it weekly 😄
@@JashiiCorrin Oh nice! I understand now, sounds practical
If I didn’t have a future log, I would forget everything 😂
A very important element then! 😄💜
as someone who DID mess up spelling their name on their journal..... could have used that reminder earlier XD XD
😂 rip! Sorry Jean!
