I bought my 2024 MYP in October.... Its going to kill me when the refresh comes out, but man the savings I took on an in inventory car, federal rebate, and the 0% APR I just could not pass up.
The bugs all ironed out on the old run out model. They always end up the best buys. First run new model will have plenty of recalls,just nature of the beast.
Same here and I got it in December. If it hurts so bad, sell it. Take the loss and get the new one lol otherwise let’s wait a few years and enjoy the stalks!
If you consider the first few years of any new model redesign is full of bugs, buying the 2024 was a very smart choice. Especially if you’re buying it.
The one important thing is that the "No Turn On Red" sign is not recognized by FSD. I have the model Y 2024. Also, I would love FSD to understand potholes on the road to avoid them when it is safe. Just a thought.
There's another potential issue - the HW3 cameras may not have the resolution to reliably read road signs at a reasonable distance. And I understand, the Hw3 camera wiring is also inadequate for higher resolution. Meaning that if it did become necessary to upgrade the HW3 cameras for unsupervised self-driving, things could get messy.
The pothole thing is one big reason why I don't use FSD. There's a lot of road work in my area and FSD try to drive over them all the time, and I manage to take control if I react fast enough.

Another prediction which will come true is that self driving cars will be the target of criminals because the vehicle will stop if a pedestrian steps in front. I believe that Tesla has included that type of information into the map data. So when the car approaches an intersection, it does not have to read the signs but consults the map data. This does account for some odd behavior when the map data is wrong.

If Tesla wants to avoid the Osborne effect, it would certainly be in their best interests to launch the new Mode Y in all markets simultaneously (or as close to it as is feasible) - they must know that any new vehicle coming out anywhere would immediately make headlines across the internet.
Very informative program! I'm glad they are addressing the blind camera issue. I recently took my brand new M3 LR on a road trip and learned when driving in a very rural area where it's very dark, the display would show a warning about multiple cameras not able to "see". Also, when I was in auto pilot mode on the interstate, the car, for no real reason started to brake and said it was because of emergency flashing lights on the highway. There was no such thing in real life though. BUT, I did notice the car could have been seeing a TV or radio station transmitter towers with flashing aircraft warning strobes! That was interesting.
We keep getting free trials on FSD, but whenever we try it we quickly abandon it. Last time we tried it an oncoming car coming around a curve - well behaved and in its own lane - triggered emergency braking. It was so harsh that my wife was sore for days. We go around that curve almost every time we leave home and it is common to meet traffic there. So FSD is pretty worthless for us. I think they could do it and do it well, but it will take more and better sensors, compute power, and AI. The "no part is the best part" makes a good sound bite, but it's bogus. The best part is the one that gets the job done.
I'm hoping another manufacturer steps up and creates a model II type vehicle for under 23k. Forget full-self driving, I just want a reliable electric vehicle that doesn't break my bank. 😊
In terms of new vehicles, Tesla will be the first to do that in the US because of the cost of battery manufacturing and Tesla’s well established supply chain.
It appears from Joe's drone shots that Texas is in a similar Model Y production shutdown in preparation for start of Juniper, and eventually Cyber Cab, production.
Our 2023 Model Y dual motor is the best car we have ever owned (started driving in 1974). We’re looking forward to replacing our 2015 X3 with a 2025 Model Y.
Agree. I'm almost 64, and have bought over 30 new cars and pickup trucks in my lifetime, and I will say my 2023 Model Y LR (built in Austin, TX btw) is the best car I've ever owned. In addition to local and commute driving, we've driven it from Dallas to Yellowstone (round trip 3,200 miles), Dallas to Telluride and other locations in CO (round trip 3,400 miles), Dallas to McAllen, TX (1,000 miles) 5 times, and numerous 150-300 mile weekend road trips. It's a joy to drive and, after 24K miles, we've had zero problems with it.

I'm on my third Tesla: 3, then Y, now cybertruck. I spent over $15,000 on FSDs and regret it. I don't know why anybody should BUY it. But it's available for $99 a month which is a good deal. I got this for the Cyber truck. I think you should point this out in your videos, you never seem to mentioned it.
I bought a used Model Y with the FSD software license. It's useful, but probably not worth $15,000 for anything that would fit into the HW3 computer. Hopefully they'll start offering transfers again when the AI5 computer comes out.

Meaning that Tesla would almost certainly offer FSD transfers again - it was promised that HW3 owners would get free upgrades if need be, but if Tesla could sell a new car instead of giving away a computer, they'd certainly take that opportunity.
I recently drove from Encinitas CA to Palo Alto CA and had a problem with HOV lanes and freeway exit increasing lanes decisions. FSD 13.2 kicked me out of the HOV land whenever a faster car came up on my rear, regardless of the speed of the next right most lane faster speeds even when I was following closely behind another vehicle. That is annoying when one, very aggressive driver forces you out of a lane even though I was already doing 75 mph, faster than the posted speed limit. The other issue is when leaving the freeway, when one xit lane becomes 3-4 lanes, the FDS has no idea what lane to be in for the FSD path it is following. I do not think it is capable of acknowledging the lane markings on the street. Overall, however, I was very impressed with my relaxing drive home from Christmas. FSD has improved quite a bit from previous versions.
I have a simple ask for a software update: Add a feature to allow people to activate the wipers using the app. When it snows I want to be able to wipe off the snow from the app. When preheating the vehicle it take a long time to melt the snow.
2:30 the light bar is “Indirect Lighting” and as pointed out by Franz at the Peterson Museum, the CyberCab was “the first vehicle to be equipped with indirect rear lighting”, meaning that they’ll be brining it to much of the remainder of the lineup in future refreshes and production lines.
Thanks Ryan. In late November, I ordered a 7 seater Y upgrade to my 2018 Model 3 (I've got 3 grandkids and need the storage & seats & tow hitch). Originally the app said my expected delivery was November / December, then December, now no date. It seems pretty likely now I won't get a 'mature' 2024 Y, and will get a (buggy?) 2025 Juniper. They even phoned me a day ago and offered me CA$10 K (!) off on a 5-seater from inventory, but that's not what I need, so I declined. As you point out in your recent videos, I'm torn on this. Still, I'm looking forward to the new car whichever! I just hope the 7-seater isn't delayed too long...
I still get honk at stop sign and turning on red lights when using FSD because people don't like it when other actually comes to a full stop. Everyone just roll through stop signs and that's the norm.
I’m frustrated the way they are dragging out the release of the juniper model Y. The lease for my current model Y is up in February. Tesla claims that you can go month to month on your existing lease, however, you have to place an order for a new model before they’ll let you do that and the only new models available are the old versions. Very frustrating.
I bought FSD for my 2020 Model Y back when it was still $7k. As excited as I am for the Juniper refresh, I'm very content waiting a few more years before I upgrade, partly because we don't know if/when the tax credit is going away (i'll buy sooner if it sticks, otherwise I'll wait), and partly because I don't want to get stuck with an older car that can't get all the newest bells & whistles (and in before "laughs in older Model 3/S/X and Autopilot 2.5). And with how expensive FSD is, I hope they make it permanent to keep allowing a transfer it if you're buying a new Tesla. I doubt customers are going to abuse this (and Tesla is selling another car regardless), and the current price of $8k is a tough pill to swallow every time you order a new Tesla. Obviously not everyone is jumping into another Tesla shortly after they get one, but if your car gets totaled due to someone hitting you, it might be tough for them to want to buy it again at full price.
I always thought of this non transferable FSD as something that slows potential upgrades.. the tradein value isn’t really recognized for fsd, so it’s a big sunk cost. It is one of the main factors behind why I have not upgraded to a newer car.
The latest FSD version was the first time I didn’t immediately turn it off. It still has some quirks but vastly improved. Not there yet for me to purchase but I still think it’s cool that we’re close to having Johnny cabs drive us around in the near future. Quade would be proud.

Any manufacturer can put any of their manufacturers plates from any state on any vehicle, and it doesn’t even need to be their make of car. If it was made in Berlin or Shanghai, it could still have a California plate or any other manufacturer plate in other states that Tesla uses
FSD doesn't work in bad weather. Tried to drive it on a long trip this past weekend and it said cameras were blinded and stopped working. Rain, Snow or Fog. It works pretty great everywhere else.
I get the FSD trial emails for my Y but don’t want it. I used it once earlier this year and decided it wasn’t for me. I don’t mind driving and cannot see myself ever trusting it.
Appears to me that the differences visible in the rear light bars of those examples of Juniper prototypes in the wild are due to differences in the holes in the covers that allow the centers of those light bars to show through. The actual light bar being the same in all examples.
Got a 2025 Model Y Dec 29.. I don't know how to feel yet.. Not super excited yet but I guess it will help with my drive to work 45miles each way? No panel gap I think but the front passenger door(where it meets the back door) is not flush flat sigh...
My daughter bought her M3 with FSD in 2018. It had HW2. When HW3 was released, they came out and upgraded her car to HW3. Wonder if they'll update her car to HW4?

None. There is no such thing as a single piece casting of a car. Tesla model 3, Y, and Cybertruck use front and rear castings. Currently 4680's are used in Cybertrucks, and possibly Semi.

Later single rear casting and single front casting. I don't know the actual year but all have had single front and rear castings for several years now. 2025 model X: adds matrix headlights, AP 4, horn at center of steering wheel, and old horn button now pulls up cameras - compared to 2023 model X. Removed rear “T” logo and changed word tesla from black to silver. Can’t find many other differences. Seems to charge slightly faster (longer at higher current), but not carefully measured. Maybe check out the service manuals online? AP4 is noticeably very different from AP3, and a lot smother and more confident, doing driveway to driveway routes/backing out of some parking spaces. AP4 changed chill/assertive to ?/standard/hurry. Hurry will keep in center lane of freeway and max speed of 85 mph, standard moves out of center lane/max speed 80, and slows down when enabled, chill? Moves into slow lane and slows down more. AP 4.0 hurry activates turn signal and moves lanes in under a second, and sometimes changes lanes without signaling.
Unless I'm missing something, I only see 8 Teslas on Hertz's car sales website. There were 11 last week, so it doesn't feel like they're adding many more.
Go to a n actual Hertz location . They are. Not putting many on the website for some reason . But are offering them for sale after your rent then for a day or more .
Are you aware that many new Model 3 have their main FSD computer (AP4, AI4) short out? On my car (a brand new M3 Performance) this happened after a few weeks. Many others have reported the same. This leaves the cars without any cameras, any FSD, assisted driving and safety features, no GPS or navi and a constantly running pump that drains the battery. The service center says “it’s safe to drive” without any of the safety features!? There is no news on when the replacement computer part may be available. Tesla has not responded to this widespread issue. Very strange…
How about talking about what might actually be in the refresh beyond a light bar and a name. I'll wait for real battery upgrades and tan interiors without hard seats.

Tesla needs to improve interstate exit awareness, today my Y changed lanes from the left lane, through the right lane and directly to the off ramp right infront of a Toyota Tacoma. They’ve still Got some needed improvement before I invest in it
I was all ready for delivery and the customer service totally lied to me for days. Finally called me yesterday....let's just say I told them to keep it. Even if I had to lose my order fee. I told them they had very disappointing customer service!
Customer service is the worst part about Tesla. Service can be good, but customer service during the ordering process is always horrible. You just have to grin and bear it if you want to buy one. Once you get the car, you almost never have to interact with them again.
Just traded my 2019 SM3 for 2025 LR Model 3 with the 3 months FSD. If these cars plus Cybercab rely on cameras how will they work in the rain? I live is Florida where it rains few times during the day and my car couldnt see running FSD, it told me to take over because it was stopping because it couldnt see. Hopefully Tesla will figure rain and snow since they removed radar.

Qualify the FSD free trial likely not available on HWD3 cars such as my 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD for Canada, lets see as my car is really not that old 1-1/2 years old.
Don’t buy FSD or a SUB. Tesla should make FSD standard. I don’t understand why a customer would pay 8k for an under developed product that you have to supervise.
In the video, he said that if you have hardware 3, and the newer software will not work on hardware 3, Tesla will upgrade you for free. You just got to take your car in, and since it's modular, they can just swap it.
From what I know Tesla’s FSD technology is far beyond their competitors in USA, not sure about China, and competitors aren’t even close to what Tesla can offer. So I personally don’t think we are that close to not owning cars, but we will see.
No door handles is too dangerous, emergency workers can’t get to you if you are incapacitated after an accident. We have seen this scenario with the Cybertruck.
@@leerjet18 There are scenarios where a door handle would help but if the door is locked or jammed it doesn't help, you still have to break the window. Franz von Holzhausen demonstrated how easy that is when the Cybertruck was introduced. 🤣

Regarding FSD, those of us outside of North America haven't seen any software update on HW3 or 4. We've simply been abandoned. And those of us that paid $11k for HW3 FSD feel scammed. We're watching from afar and now feel our cars are already outdated. Hell, we don't even have ASS.

@ there are no model y rwd in inventory near me and all around states. Only performances left with nice discounts. I see two options here; if I order MY rwd in the next few hours I might get a model y performance at the price of rwd model or a new redesigned model y in q1.

Really not excited about lightbar setups. They will be outdated upon release. There are a few light bar cars now and they were big for like 2 months...now the style is not it. I'm betting we'll see people "Light Deleting" much of the bar with wraps
Pretty sure Tesla knows how to run a good profitable business which is why their stock is 80 times more valuable than other OEMs. I just sold 500 shares I bought in 2018 and used it to buy a second home.
Hertz like many other companies are not pure play. They have some back end deal to make money not renting the cars. That seems to be the preferred business model for almost everything these days but it comes with some risk. You have to be an expert decision maker about things are don't appear to be your core business and when you get leaders like that they fail at the core business and vice versa. It's difficult to find a leader with both skills.

FSD should be $10 per month. Nobody wants to pay $99 per month for a FSD.
I use FSD 80% of the time and it has gotten so much better. It was never bad just not so perfect.

I use FSD probably 95+% of the time, and I drive 80-100 miles per day. Absolutely game-changer. I could never go back

I still get honk at stop sign and turning on red lights when using FSD because people don't like it when other actually comes to a full stop. Everyone just roll through stop signs and that's the norm.

I’m frustrated the way they are dragging out the release of the juniper model Y. The lease for my current model Y is up in February. Tesla claims that you can go month to month on your existing lease, however, you have to place an order for a new model before they’ll let you do that and the only new models available are the old versions. Very frustrating.
I bought FSD for my 2020 Model Y back when it was still $7k. As excited as I am for the Juniper refresh, I'm very content waiting a few more years before I upgrade, partly because we don't know if/when the tax credit is going away (i'll buy sooner if it sticks, otherwise I'll wait), and partly because I don't want to get stuck with an older car that can't get all the newest bells & whistles (and in before "laughs in older Model 3/S/X and Autopilot 2.5).
And with how expensive FSD is, I hope they make it permanent to keep allowing a transfer it if you're buying a new Tesla. I doubt customers are going to abuse this (and Tesla is selling another car regardless), and the current price of $8k is a tough pill to swallow every time you order a new Tesla. Obviously not everyone is jumping into another Tesla shortly after they get one, but if your car gets totaled due to someone hitting you, it might be tough for them to want to buy it again at full price.
I always thought of this non transferable FSD as something that slows potential upgrades.. the tradein value isn’t really recognized for fsd, so it’s a big sunk cost. It is one of the main factors behind why I have not upgraded to a newer car.

The latest FSD version was the first time I didn’t immediately turn it off. It still has some quirks but vastly improved. Not there yet for me to purchase but I still think it’s cool that we’re close to having Johnny cabs drive us around in the near future. Quade would be proud.
2:00 The California plate doesn’t necessarily mean it was made in California. Any manufacturer can put any of their manufacturers plates from any state on any vehicle, and it doesn’t even need to be their make of car. If it was made in Berlin or Shanghai, it could still have a California plate or any other manufacturer plate in other states that Tesla uses
Is there a work around to be able to use basic cruise control when FSD is enabled?
FSD doesn't work in bad weather. Tried to drive it on a long trip this past weekend and it said cameras were blinded and stopped working. Rain, Snow or Fog. It works pretty great everywhere else.
My experience with fog has been very good. Driving through West Virginia mountain in very thick fog with no problems at all.
I get the FSD trial emails for my Y but don’t want it. I used it once earlier this year and decided it wasn’t for me. I don’t mind driving and cannot see myself ever trusting it.
Appears to me that the differences visible in the rear light bars of those examples of Juniper prototypes in the wild are due to differences in the holes in the covers that allow the centers of those light bars to show through. The actual light bar being the same in all examples.
FSD must work better on v4 hardware because my 2020 Y keeps hesitating and jerking at green lights. Its really quite annoying.

That recent 30 day trial I think were for cars that are able to get v13, aka HW4 teslas, I haven't seen anyone with HW3 get the new trial.

My daughter bought her M3 with FSD in 2018. It had HW2. When HW3 was released, they came out and upgraded her car to HW3. Wonder if they'll update her car to HW4?

Which US factories produce the 4680, single piece casting Model Y?
None. There is no such thing as a single piece casting of a car. Tesla model 3, Y, and Cybertruck use front and rear castings. Currently 4680's are used in Cybertrucks, and possibly Semi.

When Model Y first came out (2020?) it had a pair of rear castings. Later single rear casting and single front casting. I don't know the actual year but all have had single front and rear castings for several years now. Model 3 followed a couple of years later with front and rear castings.

2025 model X: adds matrix headlights, AP 4, horn at center of steering wheel, and old horn button now pulls up cameras - compared to 2023 model X. Removed rear “T” logo and changed word tesla from black to silver. Can’t find many other differences. Seems to charge slightly faster (longer at higher current), but not carefully measured. Maybe check out the service manuals online? AP4 is noticeably very different from AP3, and a lot smother and more confident, doing driveway to driveway routes/backing out of some parking spaces. AP4 changed chill/assertive to ?/standard/hurry. Hurry will keep in center lane of freeway and max speed of 85 mph, standard moves out of center lane/max speed 80, and slows down when enabled, chill? Moves into slow lane and slows down more. AP 4.0 hurry activates turn signal and moves lanes in under a second, and sometimes changes lanes without signaling.

Are you aware that many new Model 3 have their main FSD computer (AP4, AI4) short out? On my car (a brand new M3 Performance) this happened after a few weeks. Many others have reported the same. This leaves the cars without any cameras, any FSD, assisted driving and safety features, no GPS or navi and a constantly running pump that drains the battery. The service center says “it’s safe to drive” without any of the safety features!? There is no news on when the replacement computer part may be available. Tesla has not responded to this widespread issue. Very strange…

I was all ready for delivery and the customer service totally lied to me for days. Finally called me yesterday....let's just say I told them to keep it. Even if I had to lose my order fee. I told them they had very disappointing customer service!

Customer service is the worst part about Tesla. Service can be good, but customer service during the ordering process is always horrible. You just have to grin and bear it if you want to buy one. Once you get the car, you almost never have to interact with them again.

Just traded my 2019 SM3 for 2025 LR Model 3 with the 3 months FSD. If these cars plus Cybercab rely on cameras how will they work in the rain? I live is Florida where it rains few times during the day and my car couldnt see running FSD, it told me to take over because it was stopping because it couldnt see. Hopefully Tesla will figure rain and snow since they removed radar.

In the video, he said that if you have hardware 3, and the newer software will not work on hardware 3, Tesla will upgrade you for free. You just got to take your car in, and since it's modular, they can just swap it.

From what I know Tesla’s FSD technology is far beyond their competitors in USA, not sure about China, and competitors aren’t even close to what Tesla can offer. So I personally don’t think we are that close to not owning cars, but we will see.

No door handles is too dangerous, emergency workers can’t get to you if you are incapacitated after an accident. We have seen this scenario with the Cybertruck.
@@leerjet18 There are scenarios where a door handle would help but if the door is locked or jammed it doesn't help, you still have to break the window. Franz von Holzhausen demonstrated how easy that is when the Cybertruck was introduced. 🤣

Regarding FSD, those of us outside of North America haven't seen any software update on HW3 or 4. We've simply been abandoned. And those of us that paid $11k for HW3 FSD feel scammed. We're watching from afar and now feel our cars are already outdated. Hell, we don't even have ASS.

Pretty sure Tesla knows how to run a good profitable business which is why their stock is 80 times more valuable than other OEMs. I just sold 500 shares I bought in 2018 and used it to buy a second home.
Hertz like many other companies are not pure play. They have some back end deal to make money not renting the cars. That seems to be the preferred business model for almost everything these days but it comes with some risk. You have to be an expert decision maker about things are don't appear to be your core business and when you get leaders like that they fail at the core business and vice versa. It's difficult to find a leader with both skills.
