The UK women dealing with a cost of living crisis

  • As the UK economy is crippled by inflation and soaring food and fuel prices, women are bearing the brunt of the cost of living crisis.
    But why is this?
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
Research has found women earn less, have less wealth, are more likely to be in debt and are buying more of the things that cost more because of inflation.
Experts describe women as the ‘shock absorbers’ of poverty, they are often primary caregivers, unable to work longer hours due to expensive childcare fees - going without for the sake of their family.
Channel 4 News follows a single mum, a woman working in the care sector, and a the founder of a charity supporting women of colour. They are all confronted with deepening inequality and an uncertain future.

True, both in the lower income bracket are struggling however women generally have more expenses then men. Basic hygiene products such as soap, deodorant. disposable razors, body spray and hair care products geared towards women are more expensive then those gear towards men. Haircuts for women are also more expensive then men because generally there is more work involved. On top of that, biology also plays a role. Women have to pay extra money for feminine products such as tampons or pads, while men do not. Life is more expensive if your a woman.

Unfortunately our system does not make it financially viable to be in a relationship either.
This is why, though I'm not married, have no children of my own, I have my own home, own car and full time job, no women are interested in having a relationship. This is because though they get little benefits as single parents, they would get even less if they got into a relationship.
I know plenty of local single mums that as much as they are currently struggling financially, they openly say they will never enter a relationship because of the money they would loose.
I know some single mums locally that though they struggle financially, they still get more money's worth in welfare and then other benefits such as housing benefit, council tax discount etc combined than what I get as a wage working full time for £28k per year but then have to pay full everything like mortgage.
Working does not pay enough in many cases and so people are trapped into a life of benefits to start with. An example of this is £28k per year in my northern town is a high wage but after all my bills I can't afford many luxuries and yet the woman who lives next door to myself that doesn't work has at least two foreign holidays per year and a top of the range BMW.

I get child benefit payment of approx £80 each month and about £600 of my son's £1,400 per month nursery fees reimbursed. And joining the wait list for a council property would be futile so I pay my £1,250 rent every month and budget whatever money is left for the remainder of the month. If my son doesn't attend nursery, then I can't work. Facts. If I didn't work, then I would be destitute living on Uninversal Credit. Its a bit bleak to call it sexist. I think the breakdown of the family structure is what women suffer the most from. These women are not in poverty simply BECAUSE they are women its because they are single mothers. Which make up atleast 70% of the economy. 50 years ago, almost every mother was a married woman with support from her husband. Now, the popularity and social expectation of marriage has fallen dramatically low in modern society and its women that suffer from it because they are the ones left to raise the children alone.

To dismiss these people as "selfish" for having the desire to raise children of their own is disgusting and you really should try to gain a bit more perspective before casting your judgement on others so harshly. Sometimes ppl experience dramatic life events that change the course of their life which you can’t predict. And remember that it may seem sensible on a personal choice level, but the macro view is different. There aren’t enough children being born as it is. So, the resolution isn’t for ppl to just stop reproducing. The system is set up to exploit workforce for peanuts. We’re headed for a population collapse by the end of the century. Telling people to be ‘wiser’ about it means you’ll need to work way longer than you think because there will be very few working age people (relatively) to support your retirement. Times are going to get harder. It's time to improvise, make alternative plans for how you feed your families. It has been time to do this since the plandemic. "Why record inflation is harder for women", where do I even start with this. Inflation doesn't just single out one gender. Both the title and all the sources appear to be biased in just trying to prove one's point, you can spin the data however you want but the truth is that it's hard on us all; men and women.
"90% of all single parent households are ran by women", that seems an unusually high percentage of mothers that have custody of their children. Could 90% of the men really be that bad whereby the woman has to divorce the man, take the child and try to make ends meet whilst working a 0 hour contract in the middle of a cost of living crisis rather than making it work in the family they started, and being better off all round?
Single man or single woman, of course you're going to be paid less and struggling working a 0 hour contract as a nurse supporting 1+ children in the middle of a cost of living crisis with inflation being at a 40 year high.
