Wow! You could do a video in future showing how you use the two Moogs.. and how interchangable they are.. Your thought process in creating a bass or 808.. That could be real great. Always love your content.. All the way up here in Nairobi, Kenya!
Killer set up man! After seeing that clip you shared of needing to go from bass to keybass, I have been playing around with keybass lines on the Juno D I have here. It's been FUN and now I've decided I'm going to hunt for a Moog! Thanks for the inspiration my man!
Nice rundown Always wondered the small details like tuner strap and in ears Do more content on the synths They look complicated Ian and Scott need to do a part 2 with you where you just focus on synths with bass Love your playing
Watching from Grenada (Caribbean) I’ve learned a lot from you over the years bro. I play gospel and jazz mostly. keep safe, stay strong, stay blessed. I play electric and upright (never learned to bow) but took up a challenge to learn to bow to play 2 pieces with an orchestra in 2 weeks (performance is next week). I thought if you can do what you do under the circumstances, ent nothing too challenging that I can’t try to do. You are a true inspiration.🙏🏿
This is awesome content sir, thank you! Can you provide more information on the talk back system you are using. Trying to set up talk back for the musicians at church. Thanks again!!
Thank you for doin this!! It’s super insightful! Do you Have the sub on your rider? Is there anything specific reason you choose to go with passive di boxes verses active? When sub mixing are you keeping the EQ on the gk fusion 550 flat?
No worries…yes I have a sub on my Ryder. Passive DI don’t color my sound with my active bass. From trial and error it’s what works best for me. When sub mixing, the mixer is flat and the amp I’ll take out some of the high mids.
Awesome setup and agree would LOVE to see some video content of your Moogs and tones! Notice on some videos you use a Korg MS2000 for bass synth tones as well! Thanks sir!
Would love to see more on How you use the Moogs. Just bought tickets for Perth gig. Please tell me you’ll be playing at that one. I really hope so. If you haven’t been to Perth before it’s one of the most beautiful places in The world and we have Quokkas that you have to see.

Would you mind telling me which clip on tuner you use? And for stings the Labella site says you're using Nickel...did you switch to SS?
Shout out to Justin Raines. I love what you do Sir. One question. I'll love to know exactly how you electric Bass is received and processed both on for your live videos and home videos. By this I mean are u going straight into a di or are you recording a di and miced cabinet simultaneously. Pls when ever you have the time pls share with us how it's done because most people's recording don't sound like you're, and I've been trying to rap my head around how you bass recordings sounds like this. Thank you and God Bless you Sir
Great Video, any recommendations on learning how to create your own bass patches? Using presets in the Novation Bass Station II haven't been that great, I would much rather be able to create the sounds I need.
Justin that's a CLEAN setup sir! I have a question for you whenever you have time. What's ALL the gear I would need to post quality bass videos from home to social media? Your posts of you playing always sounds 100%💥. THANKS AND STAY WELL 🙏
@Jraines112 excuse me good man but I would just like to see what goes where and what made you do that but anyhow I can on for days that is why I asked to a video thanks lot of info
Hello Mr.Raines Stephen Lee from Ipswich England Thank you for your awesome amazing informative Video content. Noticed everything had a brand name but what make is your subwoofer Sir?
Hi Justin, I love your groove. I'm a self-taught beginner bass player, I'd like to know what scales and exercises I can do to make those solos between the notes of the progression.
It’s actually very simple…but to answer your question, times change with each genre of music. There are some artists where electric bass is not even used…but that all depends on the artist and what their music needs.
Wait, what? So electric bass goes to GK for monitoring only and straight to PA mix board (through passive DI)? So the tone we hear is in the guitar preamp and hands? Wow!
Awesome rundown! One thing really stands out - no FX? Not even compressor? :) Any particular thinking behind that? And yes - would love to know more about your use of synths! Started getting into them, barely scratched the surface; so - eager to find out how the pros do it. Blessings! And thank you
Question any chance we can get a video on how you setup your synths? Those custom patches are tight!!! Darrel Freeman with Maxwell does a dual Electric bass and Synth Bass setup as well , and im sure there are particulars unique to touring. Thanks Sharrieff
Justin, I hope you’re doing well at the moment! One thing I wanted to ask you that I can’t find anywhere through researching online: what exact set of la Bella strings do you play on your signature Saratoga MTD? Thank you!
hey justin, love your vids, im just wondering, im not too familiar with the impedences, how is it that you're running a 500 watt head with a 1600 watt cab? does this not damage your equipment? Thanks
From the DI box. Each instrument goes into the input of its own DI. From the thru of the DI it goes to the amp. Because I’m going to the input first, it sends the signal directly to FOH and monitors.
Quick question. So all three lines are treated as one signal on the mixing board ? Or you have those separate from the di and mixing console gets or three as individual signals then you have those in one line so you have them sent to GK line in. Correct me where I need to be?
All three lines individually go to their own DI From the DI the go to their own channel in the mixer The mixer is treated as one big signal going to my GK Does that help?
How are you sending to the house? Instrument -> DI -> Mixer -> Amp -> House Or are you running 2 outs from the DI Boxes? One to the amp and one to the house?
Justin, while on stage playing live , you prefer to play on the left , right , or more in front of your drummer ? Does it really matter since you all have in ears ?
@ hi Justin, great hearing from you, i knew it was a MTD, what model is it? A Saratoga? Also, I love the tone of it, are the pickups made to your specifications alone? Or are the pickups standard for all MTDs, thank you and I hope you are well!

Hello Mr.Raines Stephen Lee from Ipswich England
Thank you for your awesome amazing informative Video content.
Noticed everything had a brand name but what make is your subwoofer Sir?
The sub I'm not sure of the brand name. I usually go with whatever the backline company provides.
Hi Justin, I love your groove. I'm a self-taught beginner bass player, I'd like to know what scales and exercises I can do to make those solos between the notes of the progression.
This was great. Thanks for sharing. My question is on mixing. Do you eq on the mixer and leave the levels flat on the bass amp or do you eq on both?

Always!!
Amazing setup!! Is tuning your Moog 37 a difficult process?
Amazing ! But it sounds complicated , so much gear ! What happened to the times when it was just bass , amp and fingers ? 😂
It’s actually very simple…but to answer your question, times change with each genre of music. There are some artists where electric bass is not even used…but that all depends on the artist and what their music needs.

You mentioned your keybass and bass goes through the di box to your mini mixer, how does FOH get your signal?
From the DI box. Each instrument goes into the input of its own DI. From the thru of the DI it goes to the amp. Because I’m going to the input first, it sends the signal directly to FOH and monitors.

It doesn’t really matter. Just as long as I’m close to them.

Hey Justin,
What’s a good Bass preamp/ DI for both CCM and Gospel?
Radial and the Telefunkin (passive) DI are great for providing a quality signal.

Why go through the D.I. rather than directly into the submix? Is it just clarity of signal?
Separation of each individual instrument.
