    Only started crocheting properly this year thank to TH-cam and this is my 2nd cardigan. Loved making it and first time using Comfy Cotton Blend yarn, I went for Chai Latte colour. I did a small and is much bigger than expected with is great as I prefer oversized and comfy. I’m about UK size 12 and it’s perfect. Thanks for your easy to follow video. Loved the turned round sleeves, never tried that before but it may be my go to method for sleeves now.

    Finished it, thank you so much. I learned how to crochet via TH-cam starting in April 2019 and decided to try this for my first sweater. It was so much fun. I can't believe I did it. Thank you for your excellent instructions. I am 5'3" 135 pounds and I made a medium. The sleeves were a bit too long for me but I rolled them up and it's super long, which is great! I changed the pockets so they are upright instead of sideways. I LOVE it. Thank you again!!

This looks easy so I'm going to give it a try. I can't afford $7.99 per skein in Lions Brand Comfy Cotton Blend but I have 4 skeins of Caron Simply Soft Stripes in the colorway of Madison Ave. that I can buy more of if needed. I'm making this sweater using both the video and the printed pattern (I purchased the pattern). I'm confused as to how many rows of decreases to do. The video says to check the pattern to know how many decrease rows to do but there was a correction note at the top of the video saying that all sizes of the cardigan call for the same number of decrease rows. BUT it doesn't say how many rows that is. Can you clarify, please?

    First, Thank you so much for this wonderful cardigan pattern! I only hope I can actually make it and have it come out as lovely as the pictures. lol I'm primarily a knitter and my crochet skills are not as strong. Now to my question which may seem very silly, but...
    I've been looking and looking, but still haven't found any references to measurements for the Up North Cardigan. I started making a 1X since my bust size is 41 1/2" and it calls for making a foundation chain of 109, but after working approximately 10 rows it seems WAY too big (wide) for my body. I'm only 5'1" and when I buy a hoodie I usually go for a large or sometimes even an XL to have it just a bit bigger/roomy and more cozy, but this seems well beyond that. The Habitat Cardigan has a really great measurement section that has exact specifications of what the rectangle (length and width) should measure for each size. Is there something like that for the Up North Cardigan that I'm missing? I just want to make sure I'm on the right track before I've worked up the whole piece only to find I'm way way off from where I was supposed to be. Far too much time wasted and a whole lot of frogging. lol

    Anyone trying to make this cardigan and having problems, the video is different than the written pattern. In the video, she says for the medium cardigan, she places stitch markers in the 41st stitches on bother sides, but the written pattern says 40th and 41st. Also, in the video, when she starts to hdc to the second marker, she says to stop a couple of stitches before the marker, but then stops 1 stitch before the marker. If you do it like the video, it should be fine. I hope this helps.

    I am hesitating a bit about buying the patterns since it'd cost 35.99 $ (I live in Sweden so that plus shipping fee). That means 35.99 x almost 8 so my question is for you who've crocheted this: is it worth it? To me it's a lot of money for just the pattern and then buy all the yarn. But I really fell in love with this design, looks very good. I am an a bit average experienced crochet-geek 😁

    Hello. I am not sure if i am doing the decreasing right. It would be nice if you showed multiple rows of the decreasing on both sides. i am making a large cardigan. so far i am on row 7 of decreasing on the pattern. I want to make sure it is correct before I proceed and would be a pain to fix later. i currently have 4 "decreasing knots" and if you look at them in the pattern it "forms" a slanted line. are they supposed to form a straight verticle line when you look at them? I have been moving my holder up as i go along but i didn't count the stitches. is that holder supposed to be at the 46 stitch for each row that requires the decrease as the pattern seems to suggest? I am on line 7 and i counted 43 stitches before that holder (on right side of holder) instead of 46. thanks for the help and sorry if this doesn't make much sense. new to crocheting :)

    I have bought many of ur patterns but on most of these cardigans like this one and the easy crochet cardigan and the long duster cardigan they all suggest in grams for amount of yarn needed about and I need yardage for them for bust size 38 but can’t figure it out. 😢 I wanted to try one of this weekend when I’m at a hotel visiting family. Can u please help me?

    Hi Jess, I'm loving this pattern but I am a little confused. I am now up to the armhole section and not understanding where to put the place markers. I purchased the kit but for me it is not clear. Please help. Thank You.

      Diane Bureau Hi!! Does your pattern in your kit have all those areas grayed out? I mentioned it in my comment. It’s so confusing. I don’t know if she’s aware of that. If you click on the link she provides in the description, it will take you to her blog where she has the pattern written out. It’s more clear there. That’s what I had to do. I’m finished with the crocheting part and now I’m getting ready to sew mine together!! It’s looking great! Good luck with yours, I’m sure you’ll do fine!! 😊

      Crafty Cat Lady hi, thank you for your reply. I will check cause the pattern is with the kit. I will go to her website. It’s those dang stitch marker positions. It looks like it says to put them right next to each other. Also, if you don’t mind another question. When you lay out the piece when counting for placement, is counting from right (which is actually left when wearing and vice versa). Is that how she wants us to count as just from looking at the piece as it is placed on the table? I hope that’s not confusing. Thank you. Oh I so want to finish this. Love the yarn and the style 😉

    • @hislambcreations
      @hislambcreations 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Diane Bureau Hi, Sorry for the late reply, so, if I understand you correctly, your asking about the back/front and armhole placement? So, for the first one, you count from one end to the number listed; for example for a large you would count to the 24/25 stitch and place your marker, then go do down to stitches 41/42 (for size large) and place the next. And what I did- was flip the whole piece over and do the same thing from the opposite side. (It was less confusing that way.) then I folded mine in half and the markers were perfectly even with each other. I did that before I started that section. It’s a beautiful cardigan, it just came out long on me. (But I’m only 4’9 so maybe that’s why???) I have an instagram account and I’m going to be posting my projects soon. If you’d like to take a look, my handle is @craftycrochetdiva I hope that helps you.

    • @justdi3347
      @justdi3347 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@hislambcreations Thank you, I just guessed on what had to be done cause that 24/25 and 41/42 stitches just confuse the heck out of me. Just for future makings, you count 24 and put stitch marker in 25th and same with 41 and put stitch marker in 42? I wanted to keep it moving. I do love the pattern and Jess has a great teaching voice but patterns seem to always be a little confusing. This is my second sweater I've made and issues on that one too but I got it done the best I could. Thank you I will definitely look you up on Instagram. "Little Lady"

    • @hislambcreations
      @hislambcreations 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diane Bureau Yes! That’s exactly what I did. I think by putting the markers in, then folding it in half helped me. It came out even, I also matched up my stitches and I had the same amount on each end, and the same length of the open spaces on each side. So I figured I had to be doing it right. I’m not a seasoned crocheter by no means, by I love learning! Right now, I’m making baby boy items, my niece just had twins and another niece is pregnant with her 3rd boy. 😳😊

    • @makedocrew1717
      @makedocrew1717  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry to hear that! I'm not sure what happened either, especially if you measured your gauge on the sleeves and collar and they were on track too. One thing that could help with the collar (depending on what yarn you used) is blocking it a bit to flatten it out and make it longer. For the sleeves, you could shorted them by removing some of the non-increase rows at the end. If you do that, just work the last rows of however many do you without joining so as to create the "V" shape to seam in.

    • @hislambcreations
      @hislambcreations 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. My sleeves are wayyyyy too long too! I have to roll them up 3 times. But the collar came out perfect. The whole cardigan is way too long! It’s nothing like the picture shows, and I followed the pattern exactly as it was written.

      @makedocrew1717  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hislambcreations Did you happen to measure your gauge? The pattern doesn't differ *that* much in length per size, which makes me wonder if your gauge was on track with the pattern? The model in the photos and video is about 5'6" for reference.

      @hislambcreations 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Make & Do Crew Yes, in fact I did. I also nearly ran out of yarn. I kept going back and checking my work against the pattern and I was doing it right. NOTE* Another thing about the written pattern- it was all messed up! All of the numbers IMPORTANT NUMBERS- were grayed out! I couldn’t figure out why. This whole thing has been so frustrating for me. I left you a note about it, but you didn’t respond to it. And I noticed other comments from others that the sleeves came out too long for them as well. I’m very sad because I spent a lot of time, put a lot of hard work in this and it’s too big to wear out anywhere. It looks like a house coat. I’m not 5’6” , I’m only 4’9, but that usually doesn’t make that big of a difference. I guess it really mattered this time. Oh well, a valuable lesson learned.

    Please tell me how to make the sleeves shorter. I am making a 3x and I’m very concerned that the sleeves will be too big. If I make 1 or 2x sleeve will they fit onto the sweater body?

    • @makedocrew1717
      @makedocrew1717  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll want to make the sleeves for the 3x because otherwise they won't fit into the armhole appropriately. The size 3X sleeves should be about 21" around where they join at the shoulder and 24.75" long. If you'd like to make yours a bit shorter though, you can eliminate rounds 1-4 and just begin with round 5 where the increases begin. I hope that helps!

      @@carolyncozine6375 You're welcome. I am actually stuck now at the next section for the armholes. I have reread several times but to me it's unclear on where or how to count for the stitch markers. In the video it shows several stitches between each 2 groups of stitch markers but the instructions show stitches (25, 26 - just an example) right together. So, I can't figure that out. I did send an comment so I hope I will get a reply unless you or someone else here in comments can help. I am making the size large. My please in helping, where I can...I love crocheting and am probably an early intermediate skill level. But reading patterns is a little more difficult than watching a video. Annoo Crochet has the best video and very easy to follow her verbal directions. I just made and finished her Caribbean Queen Hoodie. It was easy and I happened to have the exact yarn she used. Her video is for a size S/M and I didn't realize that until later, but it didn't matter cause I didn't have enough yarn for the large. So I sent it to my daughter-in-law. But just an FYI if you want instant gratification on a garment. Have a great day!

      Diane Bureau Hi Ladies! I had a lot of the same issues with this one, but I just kept on crocheting and it turned out nice. I’m getting ready to sew mine together. One thing I was freaking out about last night, was, I was at the last pieces of the pattern (the pockets) and I have very little yarn left! I bought the kit for the size Medium. I was worried I’d have to buy another cake of yarn. I have 2 small balls of yarn left. Hopefully it will be enough for the sewing. I don’t think I’m a “loose” crocheter, my gauge was right with what the pattern suggested. And I consider myself an intermediate beginner. Lol!

    • @makedocrew1717
      @makedocrew1717  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe :) My suggestion would be to make a gauge swatch and see how it compares to the pattern gauge (listed in the free written pattern linked in the description box above.) You'll likely need to decrease your hook size to meet the gauge with a worsted weight yarn, and you might find that you don't care for the drape then as much. Your other option is to use the recommended hook size and just make a size smaller of the sweater since your yarn will be a bit thicker. :)
