I mean... a fully civilized modern actual island so conveniently placed in front of Manhattan and Brooklyn and New Jersey, being part of New York, the most important city in the whole world, I mean... What could be more perfect than that? It is like an european suburb in front of the biggest amusement park in the world. My desire to live there only increases as time goes by. I formerly commuted to Staten Island via the ferry everyday to go to work on the western edge of the borough and fare evasion is rampant and recurring on a daily basis in those bus terminals. I only witnessed crackdowns happening during the mid-morning to afternoon hours and people would continue doing it! Got so sick and tired of it that I now commute through the NJ Transit and ride my scooter through Goethals Bridge to go to work instead! I pay more for the commute but I am extremely satisfied I don't have to deal or witness this bull$hit anymore and I get to ride through far more scenic views!

We had Manhattan and Brooklyn at out fingertips when we wanted them, lakes for fishing, woods for hiking and berry picking, etc., etc., We really had it all, except for the Californian weather, which, as an outdoors person, I needed. But even in the wintertime, as a kid we had more than enough hills for sleigh-riding, and more than enough snow for snowball fights and snowman building. Staten Islanders didn't care if we were considered the hybrid borough. We knew who we were and being a part of NYC or not never mattered.

What I don't like about North American towns is that the streets don't look friendly and they are mostly deserted unlike in South America and Asia.There are not as many shopwindows to enjoy neither any locals to greet or chat with outdoors. THe USA is definitely not what it seems to be in the Movies.
Can't believe people complain about paying to ride a bus. Don't they realize how much gas costs? Every comfort has a cost. Or they can buy a car with insurance and pay for gas themselves which is a small fortune.

I worked as a staten island Bus OPERATOR for over a quarter of a century. 1/3 pay their full fare. 1/3 walk on by. !/3 think the fare box is a donation box. You whine about paying a fare? Then state the wrong amount. The fare is $3.25. Obviously you never paid it. I am so glad people are being arrested. About time. Why should honest taxpayers finance you?
the boardwalk area is along richmond terrace , not bay st, and it has been there as long as i can remember and im 29.. if ur from here why did u have to second guess if the ferry is free?
