Get that bag under your forearms and your elbows won't get so beat up also. Other than that practice. Good luck . They are fun, but a handful

Elmer Keith made one heck of a cartridge in the .44 mag. If you have a chance read his book. He was quite a character.

got two Rugers, a Super Redhawk with a 9.5" barrel , and a Super Blackhawk with a 10.5" barrel, both .44 mag. I read that the long barrels mitigate some of the recoil.
    it's all I wanna shoot.
    Keep working at it.
If you "lock-up" again, it's probably the base pin not clearing the transfer bar around the firing pin. Check to see if the base pin is fully seated. Also, when you cock the hammer, point the gun up, that helps the transfer bar clear the firing pin.
I hear that the best bullet for .44 mag is a 240 grain.
I reload with 240 grain hi-tek hardcast wadcutters, Keith style. They work good at 25 yards with iron sights.

i an finding the 44 mag to be a learning curve. I have a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag and it is a handfull! i shot through a box of ammo just getting used to the kick. The range officer that day happened to be an expert with antique rifles and he tried it and he figured out the irons were off and the adjustments needed. Then i went home and adjusted the irons (after watching 10 videos on how to do it) and went back the next day and hit the target ok (about a 3" group). Im not a great shooter its a learning curve, thing packs a whallop (big holes in the target!) Perfect practice makes perfect!

Thanks for the video. I know it’s not funny, but I feel your pain. 😂 I love the hand cannon. I have the super red hawk. Open sites for now, it came with the rings just haven’t put the scope on it. Remington ammo seems to shot good @ 50 yrds haven’t tried anything further. I keep the barrel way out in front of the rest. Haven’t destroyed one yet, but don’t shoot off of sandbags. Use a Caldwell tack driver front rest.

I've got the same gun with a bsa 2-7x28 scope, it's shoots very well and I've take a whitetail deer with it last year and hop I can get a couple more with it this season.

Wow that's not what I would want!
I have the same gun in 41 rem. Mag. And have no problem hitting a 4" bullseye at 100 yards but then I also reload myself and have worked up some good loads it likes , I also have a fix for the rest. I use a sandwich bag filled with sand ,then put it down an old sock spin it around and pull it back over the sock a second time, work's great and when it gets dirty take it off and wash it or make a new one!

Hey bud that Ultradot is actually a sought after red dot for hunting revolvers. I have the same gun and love it! I’m using iron sights at the moment. I’m good out to 50yds 4 inch groups on average. Haven’t tried a 100yds yet. Plan on getting a deer with it this season. Also have a 460 magnum. Now that’s a handful

Have that EXACT SAME GUN. Great shooter out to 50 AND 100 yards. @5” groups at 50 yards and @10” groups at 100….( not every time but more then not).
You do realize that gun is intended for hunting and shooting in a “cooler” environment not in 100 degrees. That model Ruger was primarily made and sold as a carry gun for hunting in Alaska and Northern hunting regions for big game like bear, moose, elk, and muley deer and could be used to hunt whitetail. It can be used for other big game also (hog hunting and even for big game in heavy cover) in warmer climates. I have successfully carried and hunted with it in PA, South Carolina, Montana and Colorado. It does pack a punch but can be controlled with some practice.
I will advise that you do a couple of things to be able to shoot AND control your shots much better.
#1 THROW THAT SCOPE AWAY. A red-dot of that mfg will never hold it together with the amount of power that gun has. You will be CONSTANTLY need to check and change both el and wdg. I have a good quality Leupold on mine and have only needed to make minor adjustments to it over last 25 years I have owned it and shooting this gun. A red dot might be good on a 9mm or other caliber but not for a Mag revolver like this.
#2 buy a hard case for the gun. This will keep the gun AND SCOPE trapped between a more secure and padded surfaces while transporting and storing the gun. A soft bag getting banged even a very little bit will possibly throw your moa WAY off.
#3 Shoot a bunch of various ammo BUT when you find an ammo cartridge and size grain that you can shoot accurately try to only shoot that. Every type of bullet (Mfg, grain, FMJ, Hollow Point, special tip) may cause you to shoot different and will cause some different accuracy and adjustment to your grip and hold. Try to get some snap caps and practice holding that gun freehand while pulling the trigger. It is a heavy gun and takes a LOT of practice and muscle control to master good shooting and accuracy.
To bad about your rest bag..it looked almost brand new. If you get the above under control you will rest you HANDS on your gun rest BAG and NOT THE GUN. This gun the 454 and 50 have flames basically shooting out all around the cylinder once ignited and not to many thing can hold up to that “exhaust” pressure. First time I shot the 454 blew my glasses off and cut my face above my eyebrow from something flying off around the cylinder.
Lastly this gun is not really something that is a weekly range shooting gun. Pretty expensive to shot on a regular basis even if you reload. It is fun to break it out once in a while or right before hunting season, shoot a few rounds through it zero it in and put it back in the hard case and go hunting.
Good luck with it, even though you gave it a somewhat negative review you will like this gun with some “adjustments”.
