Thanks for the video! 10-80% in 18mins at our neighborhood fast charger. Easy peasy. Own the car in black. Love it. Have seen 250+ range in my daily commute life. Our road tripper is the EV9, which also has the ability to charge quickly.
This N trim is not suitable for longer trips if you drive it normally, but it's one of the best cars on the market. If you don't need the power, get the base trim.
No high hp car is suitable for long-distance trips. But for everyday, back and forth to work, driving on the weekends. The N5 is Fantastic! If driven logically, You should see 255-266 miles per full charge. I Love my Abyss Black N5,,, Best All Around Car I've owned thus far.
Hey Jill, nice road trip video! The 5N is a thirsty beast and like a Hellcat Charger isn't really a family road tripper. Personally, because it charges so fast, I would have driven at 75mph and popped into the charging station for 10 mins before continuing on.
The problem is, the Electrify America station in Lafayette is usually full or broken. I had to wait there for three hours once to charge. Not an episode I’d like to repeat.
That’s not true at all please do not set your speedometer for 5 miles more than the speed limit in Indiana. The cops out here use Corvettes Camaros and they also use EV’s and they will get you for going 2 miles over.
The math doesn’t even make sense. The average speeds on roads as well as the 85th percentile of speeds (where design speeds and speed limits are supposed to be set) would dictate that everyone on the roads is ticketed where you live. Physically and mathematically impossible.
At the beginning expected range was 215 miles. At the end, readouts were 55 miles of range left and 24% of battery, yet you had revelled 190 miles. Could there have been that much regen?
55/0.24=229mi estimated total range according to the GOM The range estimate is based on your driving efficiency over the last 20 or so trips, so it will fluctuate depending on what kind of driving you've done and intend to do. If you change your driving, or conditions change, the range estimate will be less accurate.
If you had driven at the speed limit, you should have charged. Since you were driving below the speed limit, the car adjusted in real-time and changed the route, indicating that charging was not needed. This is why I told you to use the onboard navigation.
It's a 640hp sports car tuned for fun spirited driving and track days... Range was not a priority. Compare it to an equivalent gas car that also has 640hp; the Cadillac CTS-V with a supercharged 6.2L V8 is only quoted at 266mi range, so it's not that far off. The Hyundai also gets to 60 faster in only 3 seconds flat vs. the Cadillac's 3.6sec. Complaining about range and ride harshness kinda misses the point of the vehicle...
@RONderluck ok, that's totally fine, just curious where your opinion differs? Why jump in the spicy track version of the car and complain about the stiffness and range when there are softer, longer range versions of the exact car available for less? Maybe the 225hp RWD or 320hp AWD versions would be a better fit for her application. She didn't seem to be making use of the available 640hp in her sub-speed-limit commute.
@@bfvader Agree wholeheartedly. I don't understand the opinion of the reviewer given the nature of the car. It's a performance oriented EV. It has caveats that aren't meant for someone shopping for a comfortable, longer range EV.
@@cubedchaospak the reviewer was trying to show what could be done with the vehicle. If you wanted to own this, you can drive further than 220 miles if necessary.
@@jillciminillo As far behind the rest of the developed world as American electric charging infrastructure is, there are few places in the country where you couldn't find a charger within a 200mi stretch of road.
In our ioniq 5 sel we can go 80 (the speed limit) to 85 on the highway , 180 miles and arrive at around 12% to 18% with an elevation changes up to 2000ft. If we drove slower we for sure would have seen similar results as you drive below the speed limit. I wonder if you drove the speed limit what type of eange would you get?
Comparing this to another performance SUV like Dodge Durango or Jeep Trackhawk. The fuel economy/ range isn't that far off. But I would probably just rent a car for road trips and keep my Ev for local commutes.
Everyone seems to drive 10 to 20kmh(6 to 12 mph) over the freeway speed limit of 100kmh(62mph). So, maybe yes. I can’t take credit for the ramp on the back of the car line. That was from an American comedian talking about driving in Montreal.
As an owner of one of these N5 Ioniq. I can tell you, without a doubt, that someone has been driving that car extremely aggressively in order for it to be 215 Mi at 100%. Even in Normal Mode. And you've proven my point. Because the computer adjusted the range, based on your driving manners. Just like with a ice vehicle, Sure you can drive less than the posted speed limit to get better mileage. But what's really important is that you drive efficiently! I bet that had you cleared/reset the mileage/trip memory, and charged the car based on how you drove it. The range would show more available range.
In a Tesla you’re fine… in these Kia’s and other crap, get ready to call a tow truck. I just rented a Kia ev to go from Ny to Chicago and it was a nightmare, never again… either a Tesla, or gas… never would drive these other crap ev’s
ideally were heading towards a world with L2 charging in every hotel, parking lot and driveway, so any stopover means leaving with a full charge. untill we get there, a 15 mins DC charge isnt too much of a hassle for most people.
What are you talking about? There’s nothing wrong with Gary, Indiana as most of the people are gone. Surprisingly, the city is actually trying to build itself up and it’s gotten a lot better
Just get an EV with over 300 miles of Range if you don't want to stop for a charge and want to drive at your normal speeds. There are plenty of options now that can do that, even SUV's, and most are cheaper than this. A Model Y, for example, can go 330 miles for the RWD or 310 miles for the AWD version that can do 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds, so plenty of power. And both are under $40,000 after the rebate, or in the low to mid 40k without it. If you get an ICE SUV with this much horsepower (641 horses), you're going to have to go at lower speeds or have to stop for gas to go that far. So either a 5 minute gas topoff or a quick 10 minute charge. Not much different.
Why review the performance oriented 5N if you are looking for something with more range? Anyone who knows anything about this car knows exactly is what is about. Range was the tradeoff for all the other amazing qualities and performance of this particular car. Same with the other qualities you dinged it on. It's a performance vehicle, not a cushy family suv.
You're definitely stopping. I'm also guessing that Tim picked out the music for the B Roll footage because that was definitely not Chicago style music.

Yes EVs you need to drive slow on a road trip, exponential for air drag and speed. You'll make it if you slow down. For the year I've spent 1500 dollars on electricity for 35k km vs 8500 dollars gas for my Ram 1500 Hemi (in Canada). Get over it with the chargers.
