No ordinary singer this. Yuko is an expert at traditional Japanese poetry and formed Wagakki to preserve traditional Japanese music in a fusion with modern. Every member is an acknowledged expert musician. Truly a superb band.
Wagakki was founded in 2012 and this guys are handpicked by the vocalist Yuko. They are all masters and teachers of their instruments. I saw them 3 times live and outside of Rammstein with that crazy pyroshow no one came even close to Wagakki. Even Nightwish or Slipknot are not on that level. They have folk, rock, jazz, fen dancing, samurai swords, metal, ballads whatever you can think of. "Hakushu Kassai", "Senbonsakura" both live from Dai Shinnenkai 2018 at the Yokohama Arena are the next you should check out
You nailed it when you said that this was more than a song it was performance art. WB never do things in a half hearted way- they always give their all
I fulfilled my duty as a fan - i drew in one more. :D Hopefully, it stays this way in the future. The band is officially described as folk-rock, but they don't stick to one genre. They wants to promote the Japanese culture and make it more accessible to wider audience, by combining it with modern music. The vocalist (our queen Yuko Suzuhana) is using shigin (traditional poem reciting). In some songs she is doing it purely, but she is incorporating the style into her pop singing as well. Wagakki band's first album consist only of vocaloid covers. I honestly can't imagine any other artist could make those covers better, but i'm biased of course. Since their major debut in 2014, they create their own music only. 7 out of the 8 member have composed for the band. In this video the wadaiko drummer takes the credit. Their songs are used in few animes, movies and dramas. Wagakki did two songs for the 2016 Olympics broadcast in Japan. It is rumored that they were supposed to participate in the last Olympics too, but i guess the plan changed, due to you know what. All musicians are experienced and have other activities. I can make this comment a whole essay, but i will let other fans participate too, helping with the instruments, names, ect.

*Briiliant Song Choice IvetAI246!* This is a new Wagakki song. I'd heard Waggaki Band before via reactors and explored a little by unguided YT clicking. Initial reaction: _This is _*_Epic, Beautiful, Tasteful, Heavy Rock._* Marvin, you did better than me. I was mostly eyes shut, yet that was almost auditory overload..I saw very little of the theatrics or translation. Unusually, I'm struggling to find words. I'd already liked Wagakki's traditional Japanese instruments blended with rock. However, this composition is a 'prog' '6-act-play'. This is closer to a 'movie scale' journey (think 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly') than anything Japanese I'd heard, except maybe Ningen Isu who are much more metal. I prefer this. My Goodness. 😂 Great reaction Marvin, one of your best! 👏 Thank you IvetAI246! 👍 Best Wishes for 2022. ☮️
Thank you. :) That's what i say abut Dir en grey. Some of their music is like a whole play to me. "Tsukini sakebu yoru" is a B-side from a 2017 single. We are lucky that on this tour (2019) they decided to play unpopular songs. As a fan i suffer from the trend to present a band, mainly with their most popular material. Because i can see often times, an artist is "hiding" gems that are known only to the die hard fans. I know this through my experience. When i can't decide my feelings, i make a firm decision for an artist, only when i dive deeper into their music. The songs that are always on the set list, are the ones most recommended too. I try to change that. The popular songs have a reason to be popular, but that doesn't mean the unpopular can't find their audience. Have a wonderful year too!
A great introduction for you to experience the Wagakki Band. They have a lot of material available. A video that helped many people be introduced to them, is to the song Sebonzakura. It is not their song but it still is a good video and song. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/K_xTet06SUo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=avex
The lead singer, Yuko Suzuhana, is so talented. She also plays classical piano and is a Shigin master and teacher. Shigin is an ancient form of poetry recital which started in China and later introduced to Japan. She uses this technique in some of her music.
Don't forget: She started on the piano at age 3 and the sword dance? That's since she was 5 and it's called Kenbu and that's legit, more than your run-of-the-mill children's ballet class. Oh, and the thing with the fan, that's more of the "by-product" of the sword dance. They teach it as a substitute for the sword whenever the performance venue would not allow the bringing in of real swords.
Excellent reaction. Culture bash! I love it!!! I would recommend "Hakushu Kassai" and the combo songs "Homura" and "Akatsuki no Ito" together in one video! Also unbelievable.
This is the proof that a band can have a lot of members ( cof*Slipkno*cof ) - (cof*Iron Maiden *cof ) and even so they have their respective spot on songs, they shine individually and together. What is you favorite member Smitty? I would say Yuko-chan (singer), just cause for me she’s the best female singer but same time I’d choose her cause I am a simp of she and Beni. So my choose: Wasabi (drummer)
I’ll have to hear some more before I form a bias lol, but the front runner is the singer. Her voice has that haunting tone that’s hard to get out of your head. But we shall see. I will certainly be revising this band
Yuko, the vocalist, has also studied sword dance. She is wonderful. I interpreted this song as about a sinful person looking for the moon in the darkness for a ray of light (salvation). If it is night where the sinner is, he will eventually see the moon. But if the place is not night, but only everlasting darkness, then ...... At 14:54, the lyrics are in parentheses because the song is about two opposing things at the same time. Hope comes true, and hope doesn't come true. English-speaking people may have a different interpretation. Mr. Kurona always creates interesting songs.
