  • This is a review of a video I came across on youtube of a flight instructor teaching slow flight for the first time to a flight student.
We will take a look at the instructor techniques used and debrief whether this lesson was taught in an effective manner.
Slow flight and stalling are an important part of flight training, many accidents are cause by poor handling in this area of flight. It must be taught thoroughly and effectively to ensure your student appreciates the threats involved and how to mitigate them. Good instruction technique is essential.

Thank you for the comment! I think teaching technique is underemphasised in CFI training.

Im so glad someone had the balls to slam this guy.
He’s always in my recommended and every time I watch him I think to myself “why are you so angry? why are you talking so erratically and with such force?”
I’m currently training for my PPL and so far my instructors have been phenomenal. Two of them are in their 20s and initially I was worried they’d be in it just for the hours. But I have to tell you, they know exactly how to teach and how to talk. Not once did any of them berate me and talk to me in a condescending tone.
I get really really agitated when people talk to me in a manor similar to this guy here. If I was the student here, I’d have to tell the school I want another instructor. In cockpit, where you need confidence and positive attitudes a teacher like this is absolutely counterproductive and corrosive.
There is another series of videos on TH-cam, where the teacher is constantly berating (worse than this guy if you can believe it) the student. If I link the vid can you please review it? If you think this guys bad, you should watch her.

Absolutely, I’ll take a look at it… I might know the one you’re talking about already… Robin DR400 in the UK by any chance?

Good video! This joker was stressing me out just watching whilst sat at my desk. God only knows how I'd feel thousands of feet in the air.

Yikes... now... I haven't flown a powered aircraft. I have flown gliders, and I'm a navigator at sea, so I have some understanding about the importance of getting a feel for how a vehicle handles in certain conditions, and also how task saturation can kick in and cause lockups.
The approach from the instructor here is horrendous...

It’s really bad, there’s so much more I could have said about this video!
