- Chad takes an inordinate amount of time replacing the hub bearings, adding hub locks, replacing rotors and brake pads, and fixing a window switch on the 1998 Mitsubishi Montero after the trip to Utah.

This is a good video for new Gen1-Gen 2.5 owners as I noticed many of them are a little intimidated with the work involved doing the brakes on these.
Great video
Thanks. Hopefully it helps someone. If I can do it, anyone can.
@@MogsAndDogs All I had was the FSM and some self confidence when I did mine for the 1st time.😁 Hardest part for me was initial torquing for the bearings. I modified a locknut socket for a GM vehicle and it worked but not ideally. I went ahead and bought the actual Mitsubishi tool for future uses.
the window riser switch part is interesting specially the door lock issue ...thanks for sharing man .
I think it would be helpful to either and the description of the window button fix to the video description or take it out of this video and make a whole other video completely for it. This video was very helpful and I think others would benefit from the window switch fix. Thanks for the video!
Good idea. I will make a separate video. Thanks!
What a great video. Good angles. Great quality. A little slow but slow is better than too fast. Also I like your attention to detail, very meticulous.
Thanks!
That looked epic! Nice work.
Thanks Janet!
Thank u love it. I been getting 17-19 in mine
Just noticed you have the left rotor on the right and will be mindful of this when i do mine today lol. With the aisin hubs, if theres too much grease in the cap they wont lock/unlock sometimes
great consistent content! keep it up!!
Thanks!
Yes Mitsubishi Montero sport awd are awesome but, Frikun horrible on the ol petro. Thanks for the share hey
Thanks for watching!
Excelente, muy útil, muchas gracias!!!! Desde Argentina
Did you have to take out abs sensor? I forget if we have it. I need to do my wheel bearing as well
I don’t think so
My pajero came without the 2 bearing housing, just the inner bearings... V45 2.8 tdi..
41:35 you did 18 ft lb...right after you went to the next step. it seems you didn't back it off by 20-30 degrees? Per Service Manual that why you see the it dragging as you turned the rotor.
35:57 Sir, what's the torque spec. when mounting the hub to the rotor?
By the way excellent work! Thank you so much for your video.
I’m stuck at 6:55 I have all the rings off but the rotor and hub won’t come off. It’s loose but it won’t come off. Any ideas what might be holding it from coming off the way yours does ?
Sorry, nothing I can think of - I think the bearings are the only thing holding it in place. Maybe it just needs some extra persuasion from the mallet?
I ended up having to get a 2 ton 3 jaw pull because the inner bearing was holding the hub and rotor from coming out. All is good though. My gen 2 Montero is running smooth as ever now! Thanks for the video it was very helpful!
Glad it worked out. Happy to be helpful!
I just bought a '92 mighty max 4x4 and today was the first time I was able to look at the hubs with the wheel off. I realized replacing the brakes was going to be more complicated than average. Your video gave me a really good idea of what to expect. Did you notice a big difference with mileage after the manual lockers?
Right on. I saw maybe 1 mpg average improvement. A recent trip to Washington and back averaged 15 mpg.
@@MogsAndDogs awesome, thanks! I'll most likely leave it stock in that case but thanks again for the tutorial because it really helped!
@@anthonydaulton1103 No problem - thanks for watching. Enjoy your new truck!
This is a very detailed video, one that will help many new Montero owners. Great job.
So you replaced the stock rotors for same size new rotors (15” wheels)?
How much improvement did this made?
Thanks Paco. Yes, I still have the 15" wheels. I was not ready to invest in wheels, calipers, and tires. Sorry but I am not sure I notice any improvement. The truck stops well - past that I cannot tell a difference.
I hear you. I recently got a new set of 33’s and want to keep them for now but looking to improve braking. Did you post the parts you used on a site or social media?
Howdy. I just put a parts list here: mogsanddogs.org/2022/10/03/mitsubishi-montero-brakes-front-and-rear/
Awesome, I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Goodwork sir! Just want to ask. If I just want to replace the rotors, do I have to disassemble the hub system like you did or just take out the 6 bolts and nuts attaching the rotors to the hubs?
Thanks! It looks like you might be able to if you can get to the rotor bolts from the back. Maybe you could remove the rotor bolts and then hammer the rotor off. I do not know for sure though because I have only done this once as you saw in the video.
@@MogsAndDogs it seems like i should renew the bearing and the grease like you did. Might as well am I right? 🤣 question though. Where did you get the tool that you used to press the bearing shims and the gasket into the hub? Thank you sir!
@hayup ha, yeah might as well. I got the press at Harbor Freight. Pretty cheap
I know most vehicles this age might have seized or close to being seized caliper pistons so I would go ahead and replace the calipers as well, otherwise you might find your rotors keep warping.
Good to know. Thanks for the advice
@@MogsAndDogs No problem! I'm curious though, what do you mean by bad gas milage; is it not on par with the likes of the 3rd gen 4runner or 1st gen taco?
@@on1ytheb3st Good point, you are correct. I am comparing it to a similarly equipped Montero owned by a friend who gets 19-20 mpg.
@@MogsAndDogs So you're saying you are not getting 19-20 mpg but the norm is 19-20mpg right? Curious what the average highway mpg are with a similarly speccd one like yours.
@@on1ytheb3st I average 14mpg on hwy.
Thank you for video, everything described and shown in details. I have Gen 1, can you tell me where can i find these kind of parts, like online shop?
Thanks for watching. I think I got most of it at Rock Auto
Good job! how much money total parts?
Sorry, I didn’t keep track of that
Hey man, great work! I am about to do the CV axles on my '95 Gen2.0 and there is A LOT of rattling going on in there. I am going to go ahead and replace the wheel bearing, race, race seal and that plate/shield behind my rotor is eaten away partially with rust. My calipers/pads and rotors are fine though. Do you mind sharing your parts list for this job?
Thanks! I will try to put together a parts list.

What exact year, make, and model is your vehicle?
Never mind I noticed it was in the description.
Question…I have the montero sport awd. It had then automatic hubs. So I out the Manuel locking hubs. The only way it will move is if I put the transfer case in 4hi. Will not move in auto 4wheel. So unlock and slap her in 4hi. Or Atuo n locked hubs why is that???
Sorry, I don’t know
Did you put lockable hubs on all 4 wheels? Getting ready to change all my breaks an rotors
I only did the front. Not sure the rear is possible or why you would want that. If you want all four wheels disengaged you could just put it in neutral.
I’m new all this. Lol This will be my first time doing any work on cars. Just bought a 90 Montero LS
That’s fantastic. Best of luck to you!
@@MogsAndDogs thank you appreciate the video going to help lots
What is the average highway fuel economy on the highway ?
I logged quite extensively and we have always averaged 14 MPG
How does it work for a auto hub ?
Sorry, I don’t understand the question
