    Hello from Australia. I have been watching you channel for some time now. I think you have the best ideas that really inspire me to keep sewing. You don't just show what you have made like many other sewists on TH-cam but you provide an interesting tutorial about all aspects of the make. Really professionally done.

    This is an awesome video! Thank you for showing us how to add a sleeve without drafting a new sleeve pattern, perfect.

      I don’t want to draft a sleeve either, not when this is easier :)

  • @janmiller1850
    @janmiller1850 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That pattern suits you perfectly ... that under bust seam is very flattering and makes the fit and silhouette perfect. On the hanger, the neck binding looked a tiny bit big, but on your body the neck binding lays absolutely perfectly flat. 👍👍👍 This really is limitless sewing, when you look at a pattern and decide you'd prefer it with (or without) sleeves. Thanks, Karina. 😍😍😍

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The band might look different on the hanger but I care most about how it looks on. I’m sure if i had a coverstitch it would look better, but I’m content not having one right now :)

    • @janmiller1850
      @janmiller1850 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles Oh I think it looks perfect as it is! I was just thinking that I'd need to try a garment on to see if the band was right, not just look on the hanger after sewing. I think cover stitching can make a garment look very ... mass produced, which may or may not be the right look, ya know?

    Thank you so much for doing this video. I have been studying several tops with cap sleeves or dolman sleeves which do nothing for my 70 year old arms! Love the pleated necklines and was thinking maybe I could change the neckline on a plain top with longer maybe flutter sleeves. Now I’m thinking of changing the sleeve on the dressmaker neck style might be more practical. It is nice to have choices!

    Thank you for all the detail you go into, and how to line with and without sleeves, and also adding sleeves to a pattern. I would never have worked out how to get the linings to fit the right way round. Your dress fits really well, and I'd need to extend the top downwards too.

    Good idea not sewing both bodice and lining when setting the sleeve. Serving them together afterwards makes it nicely finished,but not as bulky--as you said. Lining lighter knit dresses on the top make the shoulders and necklines more stable and also I like the way they look over time. Thank you, again, for a wonderful informational tutorial.

    I see quite a few basic, ageless, dresses, gleaned from waaaaay back, circa 1900, the women who followed painter Augustus Johns, those who ditched the corset in Pre-Rahpaelite times, a few decades earlier, for those who love films, check out the costumes from My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN used Eliza's evening gown for inspiration...these dresses I keep seeing are not body-con, they are baggy, with pockets- made to look rustic! This is not in opposition to THIS dress as I know this lady KNOWS how to make BOTH- I sewed, long ago- the dresses made of several meters of linen- it costs a fortune where I live- any tips for on line shopping? Hi to channel owner, looking forward to dusting off my machine and maybe purchasing a serger....eek, SO long since I did more than hem jeans! Namaste from Canada

    Do you think the shelf bra is ok for a 46 C bust. Do you think the shelf bra is ok for me? I love shelf bras, but sometimes they are too small for me. This is a really cute pattern with so many options! I love how you said adding sleeves is always an experiment! Yes it is!! The dress came out beautifully and I think I will order it. Instead of adding sleeves for the Winter months, I think I will make sure the armsye will be big enough for me to wear a turtleneck underneath for warmth. Maybe a wool for Winter. Thanks for sharing!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles

      I think the shelf bra can be customized to fit you but I’ve never thought they are supportive a enough for me. I’ve been known to remove them from RTW that have them. I’d look into power mesh and bra foam cups maybe for extra support :)

    One thing I have never understood is why there is a waist seam on some of these knit dresses instead of just a fit and flair. I hate waist seams.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The waist seam is needed to have a fitted bodice. The absence of the seam means the dress would be a swing dress with no shape at the bust and waist. You can skip on styles with seams if you don’t like them. I personally love them and think they have better fit opportunities.

    • @spatch1000
      @spatch1000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless you curve the sides from under the bust to the waist significantly, you won't have that fitted bodice. It will be a dress that flares or hangs straight down from the apex of the bust . There are t-shirt patterns and dress patterns that have you cut out a curved waist. I also will eliminate the back skirt seam and cut the back skirt on the fold with this pattern. And more happily, I will add sleeves!!
