“The issue was how I merged me and the pattern together.” That statement is the biggest takeaway for me. I am struggling with accepting my aging body, and your matter-of-fact approach to your body and what it needs in pattern adjustments to achieve a great fit has helped me so much. Instead of fighting my body and being annoyed that it doesn’t look “right” with a given pattern, I will take your reasoned approach and keep trying until I have a good fit. Thank you so much!
Noreen, you are a delightful presenter and experienced seamstress. You take the time to explain each step in a logical way which makes it easy to follow. I have exactly the same problem with ready made clothing that you have. I never understood what was wrong until I found Karina-Lifting Pins and Needles and Love Notions patterns. You are a gifted teacher and a great asset to the Love Notions community! Thank you so much!
Noreen, I can’t thank you enough for the calm and concise delivery of your fitting journey! Your demonstrations and solving your fitting issues were not only easy to understand they made me feel like I can do this too! Days of cutting a standard pattern are long gone for myself, but your step by step relaxed approach gives me confidence to push forward. Thank you❤
Wow! Such a great tutorial! Your positivity, calm demeanor, and encouraging comments make me believe that I could sew this too. You're a great teacher and expert sewist. Thank you! ❤
I sincerely enjoyed your vlog. I had forgotten how easy a full bust adjustment could be. I can tell you I wasn't interested in this dress until I watched this video. I have bought it now and will print it out and get started. I realized that you were using whatever fabric and I will do those changes just the way you have suggested. Thank-you!
Miss Noreen, the princess-seamed dress looks absolutely lovely on you! I am so glad that you happened to change the bodice in this manner. I also have narrow shoulders, narrow upper bust and larger full bust. This tweak really seems to have conquered what has always seemed to plague me over the years with much better fitting. Thank you so very much for your time and knowledge to benefit others! Blessings!
Noreen, this is such an informative video and your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. Hopefully you will make more videos ( maybe fitting pants?)
Wow! You're such a wonderful teacher! Thank you for your soft'spoken explanations and your encouraging esy to go about the issues that need to be addressed to get the perfect fit.😊
Perfect! I'm in a sloper class right now and I'm on my seventh muslin. It's good to know I'm not alone on fitting difficulties, and that if I persevere, I will get to a good fit.❤
I am so HAPPY for you. Your calm voice and instructions on how to turn darts into princess made it easy. I have the pattern, but made nothing with it. It is inspiring to give it a try. I really like your comment about merging the pattern with your body. I need to make mine skirt portion bigger for me Hight Hip and then merge to the top portion. Thank you for this instruction. I hope to see more videos on the Love Notion site. You are a natural-born teacher.
Noreen, Excellent x3!! Your presentation was so explanatory for each step you did, I was amazed with how much I learned and actually understood! I have never, in all the instruction I’ve had in my 70 yrs of sewing,i had anyone show how to change darts to princess seems! And, I’ve had hands on fitting classes! Thank you! The only suggestion I might add is totell us where to find the info on rounded back adjustment. I know how to do it but, many don’t.
Thank you, Noreen. Such a helpful example of fitting, but also of 'thinking outside the square' - and persisting! - to get that fit. I think we often forget that, irrespective of how well a pattern has been drafted, we're allowed to break the rules and to use our own problem-solving and sewing skills to make changes to the pattern. Enjoy wearing your new dresses - they both look lovely on you. Best regards, Anne
I found your process really fascinating. Sometimes we can try to hard to alter a pattern to fit, we end up down a rabbit hole, rather than look at each step at a time. Making lots of muslins can be a bit of a pain because we all want to get on and get the actual garment made. I find sometimes I have to put the finished article in the wardrobe for a couple of weeks before wearing it because I have made so many iterations of it. I've always had a low bust apex, even when I was young and slim - it was the one alteration I always had to make. As I've got older, the bust has dropped and my back has become a bit more rounded and I'm a little heavier these days. I loved the dress with the princess seam and it really does fit you beautifully. I like princess seams as they just seem to work for me but I haven't thought of altering a pattern to accommodate that. Thank you
The information you have given us is invaluable plus showing step by step the process you went through. I’m definitely encouraged to try your method in a top. Good luck to me! Thanks!
Thank you Noreen for your transparency. This is exactly what stage I'm in, trying to fit my bodice. Except, I think the only difference for me is, I'm keeping permanent bodice blocks, so I don't have to do this for EVERY pattern I make. I agree with doing, step-by-step, and I love your slide method 🤗
I have found once you've done it a few times, it's almost automatic. But definitely helpful to keep a "block" ready to go! So glad you found it helpful! ~J
Noreen thanks for a great tutorial. I really want to make my own clothes & your tutorial on fit has been super helpful. Bless you. I know patterns think we are all 18 yrs old , at least 5'6" with a flat stomach & pert bossom. Truth is I'm middle aged vertically challenged & apple shaped like a Granny Smith BUT I still want to feel good in what I'm wearing. You've answered a lot of my questions. Thank you. ♥️
What a great tutorial! You do such a nice job of explaining the steps. I struggled the first time I lowered a dart, but your demo was so easy. I've learned a lot from Love Notions patterns, but we all have different fitting issues that they don't always cover. I'll be watching for more of your videos.
I'm feeling so excited for you! You have given me the desire to persevere. Fitting has always been a great mystery to me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Oh MY Goodness! You my dear are an absolute joy to watch! This was so calm and informative. I not only learned new techniques, I am also inspired to make many muslins on my next dress. Thank you for this share.😃
Norden, kudos to you for this self fitting video! I too am on a quest for clothes that fit and flatter my maturing figure. Thank you 🎉 Tammy & Tessa, thank you for being generational inclusive on top of being size inclusive. Boomers have enough quilts!
I really enjoyed this video! You are an excellent teacher and your speaking voice is so calming. It makes something that can be stressful, like fitting, easier to tackle. And I love your emphasis on starting the fit process from the beginning each time. I seem to always look for the fast way to do things so my wins are often just good luck. Maybe I’ll have more wins if I slow down and be more thorough. Thank you!
It's easy to get caught up in the desire to reach the end and rush the process! Sometimes it's nice to take it slow and methodical. Thank you for watching! ~J
Noreen ❤. I can't give enough thumbs up. I haven't sewn clothes for a very long time because nothing would fit properly and I was completely helpless and overwhelmed by all the possible adjustments. Your incredibly calm and positive way of approaching this problem systematically and step by step motivated me to try again. Yesterday I finished sewing my second muslin for a cadence dress and am only one small change away from an almost perfectly fitting dress. I ordered some gorgeous fabric for the final piece yesterday. I can't thank you enough😘. more videos please.
I admit, when I heard you say it was easy to turn a darted bodice to a princess-seamed one, I was skeptical - and I'm an experienced sewist. Mind blown! Thank you sew much!
I absolutely LOVED this video! I have similar fitting challenges and this is hands down the best explanation I have watched. You are an awesome teacher! 😊
Excellent tips! Never assume we know what we’ll need to change ( if anything) in a pattern. And yes, read/watch the tutorial & instructions - I’m amazed at how many people will just start sewing g a new pattern & assume that because they’ve sewn for years, that they don’t need the additional info the pattern company has offered. Great video! Thanks!
Noreen, I can not express my gratitude for your willingness to share your skill for fitting the pattern to your body. It looked so easy! With an excellent pattern and your awesome tutorial I think I can achieve a better fit. Your calm, relaxed manner is awesome. Thank you.
Thank you. I really like the look of this dress. It was one of the first patterns I bought when I started sewing again. I was excited to make it but I could not get the bust to fit right. You've inspired me to try again. One step at a time
Thank you so much for making this video, Noreen! You’ve covered so many of my issues. You’re a natural teacher in the way you explain what you’re doing and why. That dress is amazing on you! What a great fit! You’ve really inspired me!
Excellent video! Such a pleasant and informative delivery of the information that I need to obtain the fit of the garments that I make. Your sharing has made me more accepting of my body shape and willing to try for a better fit.
As for the challenge of waist darts ( that point to the bust) sometimes you can get a smoother fit by trying Darts with either concave dart legs, or convex dart legs. Just a thought. You got a nice fit with the waist gathers too.
I feel like you just handed me the map to Atlantis! Sometimes someone just has to point you at the obvious. This was the most useful bodice fit tutorial i’ve watched in years. I never thought to fit it to the high bust and do a FBA. Or make the back & front in different sizes, i thought the pattern police would come after me 😂. Thankyou for this 💐
Wow! Thanks Noreen. I have similar fitting issues on my tops...Narrow upper chest but a low full bust. This gives me hope that I will be able to handle some of my fitting issues too.
So helpful, wonderfully presented. I am sorry to admit this is the first time I have watched one of Noreen's tutorials but I can assure you it will not be the last. Thanks for sharing your time and efforts.
I loved this video!!! I have this pattern but have not sewn it out yet. I loved the technique you showed on changing the darts to a princess seam. I've always based my size on my high bust measurement and it has worked out great for me. The problem I have is with my hip and waist measurements and even though I pivot to get the right measurement, I still struggle to get it right. I learned to always check the finished garment size and go from there. Thank you!
🎉❤thank you!! I needed this! I tried to get a good fit on the tempo recently. But now that you explained it….maybe I can succeed, too!🤗🙏🏼 I have 8 inches difference, tho. And I’m lower.
Thankyou so much for the excellent video. What an inspiration. First time I have been on the Love Notions site but will be back for help. Thankyou again.
I have been adjusting my Sonata bodice for weeks now. Same as you, low full bust, waist darts just do not work, loose in high bust even though I choose pattern for high bust measurements. Was actually working on 3rd muslum when this you tube came on. Going to try the front gathers on this one, then redraft bodice with princess seams. Thanks for your instructions 😊

I sincerely enjoyed your vlog. I had forgotten how easy a full bust adjustment could be. I can tell you I wasn't interested in this dress until I watched this video. Brilliant, so helpful. Would love to see how you did the high round back adjustment too. Many thanks x x Debbie x
Noreen actually did a blog post about that for Cadence! Maybe you'll find that equally helpful? ~J www.lovenotions.com/saving-cadence-rounded-back
Thank you. I really like the look of this dress. It was one of the first patterns I bought when I started sewing again. I was excited to make it but I could not get the bust to fit right. You've inspired me to try again. One step at a time

Not at this time, but she did write a blog post about it! ~J www.lovenotions.com/saving-cadence-rounded-back
I feel like you just handed me the map to Atlantis!
Sometimes someone just has to point you at the obvious. This was the most useful bodice fit tutorial i’ve watched in years. I never thought to fit it to the high bust and do a FBA. Or make the back & front in different sizes, i thought the pattern police would come after me 😂.
Thankyou for this 💐
Ha! No pattern police here! 😂😊 Thanks for watching !~J
Wow! Thanks Noreen. I have similar fitting issues on my tops...Narrow upper chest but a low full bust. This gives me hope that I will be able to handle some of my fitting issues too.
We hope you're successful! Let us know if there is anything we can do to help! ~J

We would love to hear how it works out for you!! ~J
Thank you for this great video. I have the same fitting issues as you. This is so helpful.
