- Rick Steves Travel Guide © 2008 | As he's done with previous programs on Israel, Egypt, and eastern Turkey, Rick takes us beyond Europe to a place that's rich with history...and mystery. In this first of two half-hour shows on Iran, Rick dodges traffic in Tehran, enjoys the tranquility of a nearby village, and encounters both anti-American propaganda and a warm welcome from everyday Iranians. I was there back in April this year for almost a whole month & I can tell you, that you all will love it!
I've been to Tehran twice and found the people to be warm, friendly and welcoming.
Travel to Iran surely is inspiring and enticing for first time backpackers. The people are so friendly.
I hope one day that Americans we be welcome tourists in this beautiful land. The people and the country look so warm and friendly. May peace come soon.
+James Fraunberger I hope they welcome American tourists too--its so beautiful and good food too
James Fraunberger there is no problem for American tourist to visit Iran, dont believe your government's propaganda
Dude, Americans *are* welcome in Iran. I've traveled there myself twice and can tell you there are no people more hospitable and welcoming than Iranians. Great sites and awesome food, too.
I don't think that's going to happen since Trump killed the Iranian General.
hopefully
I am from Europe and want so badly to visit Iran! What a beautiful country and beautiful people :)
Thank you for posting this. I am doing my senior project (Art History Major) addressing antiquities from Iran that have been looted by Museums here in America. I attribute the fact that the National Museum doesn't have as many artifacts from Ancient Persia as they deserve to is because museums, especially ones in the U.S., and Europe, have stolen them. I hope they return them soon.
I will visit Iran in September and october. I´m really looking forward to it. I think it´s a great Country for nature lovers and historically interested people. Nevertheless, the greteast asset of Iran is it´s hospitality and its warm people. Love from Germany to Iran ;)
Hope you have a wonderful stay friend, i'm from Tehran if you need assistant please do let me know.

Wow how polite and friendly they are. They are good looking peoples too. It just gives me a thought in my mind that Iran has so much potential if the people just have the resources and empowerment they need from their government.
Peace from the people of Manchester UK ...People to People....

tehran is paradise in summer compared to Ahvaz .

it is really amazing how Effective the role of Media is in the world .
i remember about 6-7 years ago , i as the interpreter and the Brother of the Company hosted the Representative and Accidentally the Brother of the Malaysian company ,
after a few days that we made a closer relationship he quietly while trying to be polite asked me ,
Arzhang :
are we far from the terrorists and the war in Iran?
i was puzzled at first but realized what he was thinking . Where are the Gunmen he was told are there here and the Shootings and the Violence and...
i asked him what do you mean?
he said:
in the papers ,
they say there are Terrorists here and my wife and daughter were very scared and crying asked me not to go to Iran, that was when i realized " that's why the Boss didn't show up himself and sent his Brother ".
i asked him , do you see many police around?
he said no .
i asked him do you see any armed people?
he said no .
i said , we are in the Iran - Iraq War zone , we are close to Border of Iraq where the War with the Americans and all the Terrorists were are taking place right now .
interestingly they had been to War torn iraq under Occupation and had worked there and lived there for months to build the Water Storage facility and did not make a big deal out of it but about the Safe and now war Iran they are scared to death. its really interesting to think about it for a moment .
i asked
do you see anything scary ?
he said he has been watching for something to see since day one .
i said and you will find none nowhere else in Iran .
he was Shocked , Probably thinking this Guy is lying or how could the Media say such Big Lies .
but the second Guess was correct because 2-3 years later we went down to Malaysia and his Brother " the boss" came baclk to Iran with us and we went not only to Ahvaz but to tehran and Isfahan .
so , yeah , you are being fed THAT BIG OF LIES but you wont believe until you get a chance to see.
doesn't matter .
God lets us know or stops us from Knowing .
because of different reasons .
Its because of their governments the Zionist fucktards didnt enslave its population. Its because of the governments Iran is what it is ..
Pleasant commentary and very informative video about the people, culture and history of Iran. Thanks.
I admire Steve for how he can bring out people's true nature. Americans need to meet these folks, understand their way of life and culture, etc. It helps to do that because it's harder to drop bombs on people you like. True story.
Beautiful video ,thanks for sharing

Iran is really beautiful
A country with a great history n heritage.
I Love this country
Very Good .i am iran vizit in 2012
Wow this is like the greatest documentary ever. I'm 1/4 Persian and the rest Hungarian and Montenegrin. After watching this documentary, I felt reconnected with the persian people. Too bad it's an Islamic theocracy. I think that's what scares most Americans about Iran. Anyway, thank you for your videos.
Prince of Persya.:-)Nice countty,good people.
I'm Iranian and I say it is true Iran is nice and beautiful country, thanks for you positive idea 🙂
hello Vladan, the Prince Of Persia game and movie used wrong person , wrong architect(indian) and mixed Iranian origin story with some western story, if you want to know real Prince Of Persia story, please search (Rostam and Sohrab) story on google

That's wonderfull, it seems they are good people and of course they, we just need some time to the world to a better place, that's my opinion, Claudio, from Brazil!
Wao nice coutry n good people....Asalamualaikum from Indonesia
Thank you mate for your nice video and hope you 'v had a good time while you were there. I think this footage of Iran has been recorded many years ago. Because today everything is kind of different, the cars, the way people dress among other things. Btw, You could 'v thrown in many other stuff as well, like luxury cars, beautiful ladies and even some footage of north of Iran with its spectacular landscape or even the parts where Islamic influence is at its lowest!
I think Mr Steves had much similair experiences in Iran as I myself had in August/September this year, when I made my first ever trip to the Islamic Republic. It was a truly wonderful experience, and what he says about friendliness of the people is so true. Anywhere you walk, you are approached by locals who wish to know where you are from and what you think of their country. Since visiting (I had one week in Isfahan and one week in Tehran) I have watched a lot of documentaries from Iran in TH-cam, and everyone is showing the same thing - how friendly the Iranian people are towards foreigners. I am Norwegian myself, I met a lot of people during my two weeks, and although I was unaware of Islamic laws of men not being supposed to show any skin from the waist down (I knew temperatures would be high, so I only brought knee-short denims), I never experienced any trouble from it. When approached by police, which happened three times, I was asked where I was from, and there was no mention of my lack of respect towards local customs. I know, however, that when I make a return, I will be wearing jeans, even in high summer.
Oh, and any Team Melli has a great fan in me, especially the football (soccer) team.

This was wonderful and educational.
Very interesting video. I am American and grew up hearing about how bad things are in Iran. However, this video makes me think otherwise and I feel like I would like to visit there someday. Is it safe for Americans to visit without being part of a film crew?
of course. nothing unsafe about Iran. u will love it for sure. its one of the most interesting countries in the world. lots to see, lots to do. if u do go, hope that u enjoy
CrocDoc1 you are safe there, go and enjoy
CrocDoc1 I'm Iranian bro and I living in England last 18 years and I don't like Iranian government politics views but honestly brother I'm telling you the true Iran one of the finest and the safest country for the foreigner to visit especially the Iranian people loves Americans unfortunately the West Media show the wrong side of Iran and to be honest they are not tell the truth I promise you if you go there you will enjoy it

Wow!! People seem to be so friendly!!! It makes me want to go there. How safe is it for Americans to visit? Are there tour guides that bring protection?
it's all safe, they have no beef with tourists but politicians.
Gustavo Ayala Iranian people are very friendly and open minded . You will feel protected and safe in general , I do believe you must travel with Tours as American, I could be wrong , How ever you will have a wonderful experience and a very good time.

I would like to visit İran but I don t know anything which where to stay or expensive or cheap inaddition these is it safe? We are planning to visit İran by motorbike and sometimes we could stay in tent :) Iran goverment has no ability to self advertise! Rick thank you so much but you should give advise about money, safe etc...
it is relatively cheap, and i assure you it is safe.
and you are welcome :)
thank you so much :
Beautiful country
Khuda haphis fantastic documentary what a lovely people Iranian are ... it doesn’t mean the country or the people who live against Americans interest are bad or not good people. This documentary shows how people of Iran and America love each other only government of America and Iran doesn’t want to be together. They want natural resources of Iran like past king of Iran gave American companies to exploit and take profit but now it’s just opposite so these countries they can’t come together except blaming each other and bring chaos to both countries. What a shame if any countries go against the interests of Americans government they are treated like nothing, what a shame
Kheili khoshamadid be Iran.😃

sonraesthetic 2060 how can a mountain be like a desert?
The mountains are snowy in winter lol. There is actually only a small desert in the middle of Iran
