I lived south of there in Carbon Hill back in the mid 80's / early 90's Every once in a while I would see smoke coming from cracks on the hill North of town.
My neighbor who was in his 8-'s at the time told me that was results of the New Straightsville mine fire.
If you like different caves check out Tinker's cave to the North of Carbon Hill. The story my neighbor told was "Shep Tinker" was a horse thief and the cave made a perfect natural corral hidden from sight.

Idk If I could live there I need a huge city or at least close access. Even Cincinnati is too small for me. I miss Detroit and love Cleveland and Chicago
