another simple task to do is to divide the Drive into Drive C and D and make sure to put all your files to drive D so when reinstallation is needed, only Drive C will be affected where Windows is installed :)

Yep! First thing I do is partition the drive into 2 or three partitions. I even port my important folders like documents and pictures etc to the D drive so its easy to reinstall windows now and then when it gets too slow.

7:17 - If you have a Windows 10 PC, Windows 11 PC and maybe a Windows 10 PC with a different ISO, you don't need three different sticks. If you save as an ISO, you can put on a USB stick with VenToy, and that'll allow you to boot any ISO you want. Very powerful, and Ventoy is free. Not sure if you've done a video on this in the past...
9:59 - Same here too .. shove those ISOs on one stick - you don't need a stick for each ISO.

Having a bunch of tools in the USB drives with proper labels is going to be operationally far more flexible and cheaper in the long run.
But what amazes me is that even though Linux can bring 15 years old hardware back to life and has tons of distros, desktop environments and package managers to choose from, it is remarkably stable and seldom runs into problems. Even if it does, thanks to its free and open-source nature, locating the source of problem and working on solution is very easy

As a tech myself I don’t understand how they give a price without looking at the computer. Not every time the computer don’t load into windows means you have to reinstall windows. Sometimes you can repair some stuff through the recovery menu. The real answer to that is I need to look at the computer diagnose it and give you a cost based on what the problem is.

    • @LironSegev
      @LironSegev  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

100% - I get that they need to charge for time - but $100 for something like this is ridiculous. If they had to diagnose issues, spend hours redoing the entire machine, I get it. But this is just taking advantage.

I got out of the computer repair business after running a shop for 15 years. Other techs priced us right out of business among other problems. This is why most people would simply google the issue and attempt to fix it themselves or just toss the computer and buy a new one. No one is gonna pay $200+ to fix their $300-500 PC

I see a Liron video I click to watch it. As always, great information. I have learned over the years to safeguard my data and Windows. I have an external SSD with Windows ISO's ready to go, as well as Linux distros, and other rescue type software. I also ensure to back up my data to multiple HDs. The only downside is it all locally backed up, nothing online, or off-site, but that's an acceptable risk to me.

Here is what I do, since the SSD came out, every time I buy a new computer I used to replace the original HD with an SSD drive. Copy the entire drive, replace and save the original one.
Now, most computers come with an SSD since the price went down.
I have a Dell laptop, to replace a hard drive I don't even have to open the computer, it has a tray to replace the hard drive.
If my computer fails, I have a new OS ready to use in less than one minute.

I like how the 2nd tech company's rep acknowledged, yep, it's $100 for the service.
Serious question: In my computer system admin days on the OpenVMS systems, making a copy of a disk was called an "image backup" and yes, it copied every single bit to the new disk (and wiped out whatever was on the target). So, am I correct in understanding that calling the process 'cloning a disk' is the same thing? Yes, I understand that the word means that, but I am just double-checking that the computer business is using the word to mean the same thing.
    Thanks for the good advice.

    • @killpop8255

Difference might be the backup can be incrementally added to, while clone is the whole lot, again.

An excellent video. My comment is that some of those procedures delete everything on the USB drive while some don’t. So, maybe clarify that you need a separate drive for each, as opposed to putting them all on ONE USB drive (and then maybe have a section where you call in to inquire about the cost of flash drives, for comparison).

Something to note for windows users, is that if you are going to go the Rufus route for installing to your USB, you would be perhaps wise to use the NTFS format instead of Fat. The reason having to do with some of how Windows handles things with UEFI if I remember correctly. Both will work, but technically GPT + NTFS is technically the better route to install Windows fresh.
I am not sure if the media helper does this as well. I usually just use Rufus.

Good stuff! GOOD STUFF! I like the cloud solution myself because external hard drives and thumb drives are notoriously unreliable. No matter which method one chooses, you need to have backups in place BEFORE disaster strikes. Just keep you a free clean version of Windows on many flash drives in your desk. Easy. Even if you need to swap your Boot device you can with command prompt, and diskpart command. Now you have to know what drive number of the Boot drive of choice. Typically drive 0 is your Sata drive, and drive 1 is your NVMe SSD drive, this drive 1 is my Boot drive. The M.2 NVMe SSD is located on your motherboard and does not bottleneck from pesky Sata cables. I also have a SSD as a Sata drive or D drive, and my NVMe is my C drive. This will tremendously reduce load times, and increase performance efficiency.

I never store my data files like pictures, movies, textfiles, cnc projects and alot more on the C-drive (where Microsoft suggests we store it like the documents folder, movies folder and such) but i store it on my D-drive, which is a physically separate harddrive in my pc. So if windows (or the C partition) crashes and it won't boot anymore, this D drive should still work. I just bought a new pc and I transferred that drive to the new pc and my data is still there. I don't use the documents, movies, pictures and download folders windows provides. I've always worked this way by storing my data on a separate partition or preferably a separate drive and never had issues losing data when doing a fresh install of windows.

This video has me confused. Years ago upon first starting up a computer that I bought with Windows 10 operating system immediately went into the control panel and selected "Back Up or Restore your files". From there created a system image. I'm into a lot of multi operating systems on one computer and accidentally erased the Windows 10 partition several months later. The back up image did work with all the programs that were installed and files created. This did have one restriction, the back up images that were saved to a thumb drive with a fat32 format did not work. Another external drive was used to save a copy on a fat32 formatted partition also did not work. The back up image that I saved to a different internal SATA hard drive that was formatted NTFS did work. Why would you get into the 3 USB things if a back up image created using the Windows operating system as a feature is a lot less complicated and worked several years ago? Has a Windows update made this feature unusable that worked for me several years ago? Since then I have also created several more system images that have grown in memory size since additional files and programs were added, I hope these will work if needed someday.

i have had some virus issues on winXP but since i went to win10, ive not had any problems.
the ONLY problem ive had with 10, was when windows installed an update that would not let windows run. i came home and opened my laptop and it was trying to repair itself. i was confused because when i closed the computer and went on some errands 4-5 hours earlier, it was working FINE.
thank fully i have a 22yr old daughter i was able to call and she got me back in with a new install of windows but i had lost all of my bookmarks and passwords to my net stuff. i lost a few things that were on the computer but being only a 512g SSD, most everything is kept on separate 2tb-4tb portable hard drives.
i DID set up a NAS but while i wanted to set it up in Raid 5 (4x 10 WD Red Pro drives in a Qnap enclosure) i second guessed myself and set it up Raid 1. ive looked and looked to try and reconfigure it to R5 but nothing shows me how to do a 'new installation' and start over. i dont like talking to support centers because i have bad hearing. nothings been stored there in the 5 months ive had it up (and running)...
thanks for your videos! much appreciated

About the antivirus bootable drive - it get s outdated quickly, You are more often than not infected by some new malware not in the antivirus database (at the time of creating a tool) so it's probably very useful to have a dual boot system with any Linux distro and create an antivirus tool from there (even after the infection) malware written for Windows doesn't attack Linux and vice versa. Or even create an antivirus tool from a live Linux, if you don't want to install it.
So my suggestion: "the 4th USB thing very Windows user must do right now" is to select a Linux distro and create a live USB. And then learn the basics of Linux.
Or pay the repair service every time You have a problem

If anything happens, I only need to swap my boot drive in bios, and then replace the dead one, copy the data back, and then swap again and I'm back in business.

I'd like to see how one can connect to an Old version of FreeNAS specifically FreeNAS 9.1. Back in 2016 I bought an HP Mini Server and filled it up with total 16TB of 4 x 4TB Ironwolf NAS HDDs. Everything was working great until last year I upgraded my various Linux machines and Windows machine. Linux I think now using samba version 4.15 and upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 so whatever happened there means I can't access my NAS neither. I can login to the NAS via the web interface but there is no file manager nor means to get the stuff off my NAS and FreeNAS is now TrueNAS and now Linux based vs FreeBSD and so many changes. I absolutely wish software would remain backwards compatible. Do you perhaps have an easy solution to get the New OS's to see and make use of the old FreeNAS Samba. Going out to buy some large capacity drives and install a previous version of Ubuntu 18.04 just to backup my NAS and do a complete re-install is not going to be a cheap option especially with our current economy and load shedding which means power black outs for hours at a time. Thanks!

9:23 - Just a note that just because an anti-virus program scans your machine and doesn't find anything, doesn't mean that its clean. It just means it didn't detect anything .. not the same thing. Even if you scan with three anti-viruses, doesn't mean your machine is clean. Its like being attacked by a giraffe with wellington boots on. While the chance is low, its not zero.

For backup, you can create a new partition from your existing HDD/SSD and copy all the files there. Only the C partition will be affected and deleted anyway, so if all your files are on another partition (D, E, F,...etc), then you're safe to go.
