I like to read Volcano Mouth and Interrupting Chicken at the beginning of the year. Then I can reference throughout the year, “Are we being a volcano mouth or an interrupting chicken?” There are activities/anchor chart ideas on Pinterest if you feel you need to spend more time on it than just a reading/discussion. Maybe a week addressing it will help build a strong beginning.
That's the way the first few weeks go in all classroom. Getting routines and procedures down is so important in order for the rest of the year to go smoothly. You are doing great. 😀
✏You are doing an amazing job, Mayleen! Thank you for continuing to inspire me as you work through these first few weeks... I am struggling to find routine and balance with my 3rd graders and you make me feel like I am NOT alone!
You are handling this combo class so well especially this school year where I’m feeling so off after two weeks. Been watching you since the beginning and I love your ability to explain what you are doing both on here and on IG. You are doing great ✏️😊
This was my first week with preschoolers and all we did was practice rules and procedures. Most of them have never been away from mom and dad and you can tell. This week I start my assessment to see what they know. Have a great second week.
You really got me with the “if you have questions, so do I” LOL 😂✏️ Anyways, girl…I feel you! Hang in there. 4th year K teacher here and I’m right there with you. Things are NUTS and I constantly feel like my head is gonna pop off because I’m running in a million different directions and the to-do list never ends. Here’s to having our own espresso machines, because let’s be honest, it’s the only thing keeping me going 🤣
I worked at a literacy camp this summer and I led 7-8 kids with other counselors... They still weren't very good at listening despite ALL the reminders. I felt like I was repeating myself a million times. I wonder if the changes these last few years threw a wrench in following directions. You're doing great! You are an awesome teacher!!!
This year does feel a bit “off” when I was hoping it would be back to normal. Students are out for long times and then want to be virtual. I can’t meet with my parents face to face, which is hard too. Give yourself some grace though. Monday is only the 9th day of school. 👍🏼☺️
in 3rd grade i went to a very small school (the school closed the next year too). my class had only 9 students in it and we were not even the smallest class in the school. the smallest was the combo 4th/5th grade class. prek/k was one class there as well which back than make more sense because kindergarten when i was in elementary was more like prek today. i dont even think they even tried to teach us to read until 1st grade than. and i struggled learning to read which is crazy given that by 6th grade i was reading on a college lvl
Hang in there! ✏️ thank you for sharing your love of the Heggerty curriculum. I’ve been debating getting it for my 3rd graders for a few weeks now and your comments pushed me to action.
Great video! We aren't back to school for another week here in England but your videos are making me all excited to get back to school to meet my new little ones. ✏
Your colleague’s recipe would be made in exactly the same way but using boiling water means you don’t have to cook it on the stove. You just put everything in the bowl and stir. Great if you have to make in a hurry. X
I would love to have a video just about your digital planner! Can you do that? Just finished my first term as a teacher and been through both a physical happy planner and another pen to paper planner but now thinking I might be going digital instead. How did you decide what to use and why?
Hi there! I'm a K/1 combo teacher too and I'm still figuring out what to do whole group versus grade specific. Did you do the playdough with the whole class or just the kinders?
I love your classroom!!! 😀😀😀. A question I have is do you incorporate science/social studies into your reading block or no? Beginning of the year teacher tired is real and it’s always exhausting. Your hard work will pay off. I’m so happy for you! 😀. Continued blessings for an amazing school year! 😀
@@MrsCallsCampers I’ve never taught a combo class, but I am teaching Science and Social Studies to three 5th grade classes and it is going well thus far!!! 😀. My classroom management has to always be on point and I always need to be ready! 😀
It might be helpful to give them time to turn and talk every so often, but give them something to talk about. Some of them haven't been in school ever, or for a while. They need time to talk but also need to learn that while you're talking, their voices should be off. I find it's helpful to give my kiddos time to discuss specific topics either before or during my direct instruction.
lol until i saw the sh beside the ch behind you on the wall i was about to ask why you had a spanish letter alphabet on your wall and realize it must be letter blends not an alphabet line
I make play dough for my kids all the time. Next time you could make it white and put your thumb print of color and cover it up. Then the kids get a color surprise when they mix it. You are doing a great job.
The audio is a little off on the timelapses, but I was tired so...there's that :)

You are doing a wonderful job with the combo class. I can´t begin to imagine how I would handle that!
"If you have questions about things, me too" yup

Helium will last in the shiny balloons…not the latex ones
helium only lasts 8 hours max in laytex balloons, but if you can get foil balloons they can last for weeks

Here in Finland kids schooldays start, 8.05, 9.05 or 10.10-10.20 and first and second grade is only 4 hours schoolday.
You did it! you'll find your rhythm soon, it'll take some adjusting. Be gentle with yourself, you deserve grace. Blessings and love ✏
Very accurate and relatable vid of a week of a teacher. I also just checked out the Bootcamp resource of TPT. Love it and getting it. Tfs.

we’ve always called combo classes “split classes” when i was in grade 6, i was in a grade 5/6 split.
