I’m an American and I’ve been teaching in China for 5 years. I SCOURED the internet and paid more than I should to get cookie butter here because you made your lattes sound so good. I found it! I definitely put it in my coffee daily 😂
Loving both day & weeks in my life videos so much & it would be fun to throw in lifestyle content as well! So happy to being able to come along on this journey
My little three year olds love poking activities!!! ❤️ I’m so glad your routine is coming together…. I love seeing all of your videos: daily, weekly, and a little lifestyle as well… 😍
Remind me how your kiddos earned coupons please and also about free choice time how long is it is it everyday at end what are some E free choices and what are you doing g during this time? I love watching some of your older videos for inspiration for next year!!! Thank you!!!!
Love the video. Would love to see a more in-depth video on how you run centers, show some activities and examples of their work. I'm looking for more help/ideas on how my students can be more independent when completing centers. Thanks!!
Love your anchor charts. I don’t know if we are able to hang things from our ceilings. I would have loved for my kids to have you as a children. Have a great weekend
Congratulations, Maylene on your new teaching job, K/1 combo. Thanks for your happy smiles, Maylene. Lots of good learning is happening in your class. Homemade BLT wrap for any meal = Yeah. recent Trader Joe's finds?? Have fantastic week. See you in your next upload. Many hugs.
Mayleen! In Montessori the small hole punching you were talking about is called pin punching! We use giant push pins (found on Amazon) to do it! The giant pins help kids develop a better pencil grip and refine fine motor skills. Plus, it’s easier to find on the floor than tooth picks :D
You’re amazing. Just absolutely amazing. I know I’ve told you before on IG 😂 but I just love everything you do! You’re my inspiration! Especially today when the Sunday scaries really bring me down! 😭🤍
Your explanation of centers was really helpful. I need to change mine up due to no volunteers (Covid procedure). Can you tell us more about how the center binder works for first grade?
Hi Mayleen! I am wondering how you find the kiddos do in the reading centre for 50 minutes! I find that 10 minutes is hard. Is the expectation that they read for the entire 50 minutes?
Two questions for you. 1) Where did you get the writing rubrics (in dry erase sleeves) on your writing center wall? 2) When you call your Word Work/Writing center students to small group, what happens if they do not finish their work that day? Do they have the rest of the week to work on it? I have always had a group center with me for the day so all of the center work/activities would be completed. But I'm curious how your students get the work done when you call them for small group. Thanks!
I am pretty sure the rubrics are from The Mofatt Girls! I have their writing curriculum that I used a lot last year in K. My small groups are only 15 minutes, and the first chunk of our center time is 30 minutes, so that leaves the students 15 minutes to complete their center folder work! And then they also have the 20 minutes when we get back from lunch when they can pick other activities in the center. They ALWAYS get the work done! That's never been an issue. The work I give them is super short and just focused on their phonics skill for the week! Hope that helps!
Yes i need all the help with centers!! I want to do this and think it would so helpful. Is their center folder catered to their ability? I can’t see my low kids doing the same work as my higher ones and i feel my higher kids would get bored easily
Yes! That's the whole point! The work is differentiated so they're working on what they need :) I have a post on Instagram you can check out for a little more info and I'm talking more about it this week (showing you work) but I'll work on a dedicated video as well.
The resources I usually use are Tara West's alphabet curriculum - the style I do it is just my own teaching style though! The anchor chart I just did what felt right haha. Now we use the bottom box for my students to practice writing the letter...I'll show you next week!
For lesson planning do you meet with your k/1 teacher team to plan the lessons or the material covered that week to keep it consistent for all classes and fill in with your own way of teaching the lesson? Or everyone has the content and plans their own?
I communicate super well with K and 1 to figure out what they are teaching, and I use their scope and sequence for the year. For the most part, they follow along with our curriculum and supplement/add some along the way. I have a little more freedom since I'm combo, but generally, we are teaching the same skills...maybe not at the same time though!
Question , did you teach a letter per day or one per week when you did kinder ? Because we do a letter per day and I feel like it flys over their head.
I did a letter per day with kinder. When I did my combo it was 3 a week because I had less time! It is much better to teach that way - get the information to your kids. As long as you have a solid routine and do good activities and then practice blending the letters into words as you go you will definitely be good! Introducing them quickly in the beginning gives your kids access to that info and the ones that aren’t ready will be okay because when you are doing the letters you always go back and review! Hopefully that makes sense!
Your anchor charts are awesome! Do you draw that all yourself or do you use a template? Do you do part of it or all of it with the students? I am trying to use more anchor charts, but it's a struggle and they always look terrible 😖
I made a template and traced them! As you saw in the video, all the anchor charts I make with my kids are NOT very pretty haha. Technically the ones hanging are just "posters" but I wanted something that really fit my needs, so I came up with those! There is a link in the description box that says "all my links" and there is a button that says "free resources" I will try to add those charts there.
I’m so scared to do a combo class. Technically I’m scared of the whole thing being a first year teacher. I’m afraid I’m going to fail the kids as a teacher. I wish I had your confidence and knowledge.

@@MrsCallsCampers thanks so much! I really admire what you do and love that your videos are educational. Lol, now if I could just convince admin they count as PD 😝 Lol.
How do y’all make spinners? I’ve tried before but once the paper is laminated the pin is impossible to put through and then the whole puncher doesn’t reach the center of the paper lol
@@MrsCallsCampers haha that’s just been my experience. But it was with a push pin and I STRUGGLED to get it through the laminated paper and the push pin would start to bend lol maybe I’m just weak or I’m doing something wrong 🤷🏼♀️

Oh my gosh and I totally forgot to put it in the vlog hahaha I actually filmed it and forgot to put it in 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm glad you like it!
Great work! Yes please help us how you work centers and what resource you use for kinder in the center folder .
I would love this too!
Thank you for sharing your center routines. I agree with you in having one center a day and having mixed groups. It's what has worked for me too. 😊📚📒
It's always made me feel way less stressed, too haha!

Thank you for sharing! Question for you: Do you have anything specific for students to do in library center? Do they just get to explore books?
I would like to know what you put in your center folders. Do you put stuff for each day in at once and label? Mainly kinder! Thanks!!
I just found this channel. My new favorite!
Thank you! Where can I get your calm corner resources? So glad for all your inspiration!!

Love your videos. Can you show your Fine Motor Bins and where you find the monthly poems that you had for Apples.
Check vlog 6 for fine motor! Apple poems for first are from TheChiTownTeacher on tpt! Kinder just Google!
