  • The forecast is calling for 6 to 12 inches of snow. JD is on the trickle charger and waiting for the winter weather. I take a little time to go over the different options for removing snow and why some are better than others for certain situations. Working in the elements we always puts a strain on our cameras and this episode is no exception. We suffer a catastophic loss.

Nice Job, I borrowed the neighbors 1025r when @ camp, equipped with the 54" blower & rear blade it does a Great Job. He welded a rounded guard on the blower which resolved any issues on the gravel driveway & I just spin the rear blade around as to not dig into the gravel... Always thought about putting the clamp on shoes on the blower for that gravel issue... God Bless...Chief...{NYS/ADK} PS the Curtis Hard Cab w/heat is Sweet...Lol

enjoy your channel, i have a 1025 here in CT i either do driveway with my x500 JD and 4 foot bade its fast and maneuverable i have 6 degree grade uphill about 150ft and a large parking area in front of garage that leads to stone to my barn that blade has a old conveyor belt edge good on lawn and stone and ok on asphalt , if its deep the 1025 bucket has a ratchet rake edge that clamps on works great scrapes well , i own a grader and edge tamers but going up my grade you'll lose traction best to scrap clean if its a 18" to 2 foot snow the Ariens walk behind blower comes out lol i had a truck plow years ago nice setup but to store it and the cost just too much for my driveway only

I noticed when you were showing you plowing your concrete pad for the pole barn that you had been pushing with the part of the frame that connects to the front loader 8:30. This makes me think that you have it tilted back a bit too far since the frame is lower than the blade.
I use my front loader bucket as well as my box blade to move snow. I can tilt the box blade toward the tractor, making the rear blade on the box blade ride about half an inch off the gravel. The front blade then rides on the stone and doesn't really disturb the stone surface. Once I make some pushes with the box blade, I use the front loader bucket to then remove from the driveway area. I have done this for a few years and works really well. Part of my driveway is concrete as well. I use the front loader bucket tilted forward and back drag the snow in the float position into a pile and then scoop and remove from the roadway.

I love my front blade for snow removal. I actually built it from a 70” side by side plow kit. I made the frame to adapt to JD quick attach. Much cheaper than the frontier version.

Here in Central Mississippi we rarely see snow. And when we do 1-3 inches is a bigger event. 2 years ago we had 5 inches. Using my 3025 R I used my front loader and a 6 way rear blade to clear my road. Our county road department doesn’t have equipment for this type of stuff. We basically shut down for a few days. Once my road was cleared the state had the highways pretty clear. But that’s just life in Mississippi

I’ve got a gravel driveway an everyone else that lives around the area also have gravel or sand driveways. Bucket an back blade work amazing at removing snow. Back blade can be flipped around an used for when the grounds not frozen or if you have a pond like I do. I can flip it around an make a path out to my pond and not rip the grass up.

For my 1025r with a cab, I use a rear mounted Frontier blade (moving in reverse) and a Deere 54 inch snowblower (moving forward). For my rear blade, I sandwiched (with holes drilled in it) a piece of stall mat from Tractor Supply in between the blade and the blade frame so that I had a 1 inch squeegee edge to push snow with. I had to buy longer hardware to make it work, but it does no damage to my driveway, while leaving a very thin layer of snow behind. Here in Maine, we get a lot of snow for sure, and I love my 1025r! Condolences to you about the drone....

Hi I have a dirt drive way and i have a 54 inch snow blower.
What I do is raise the shoes on the snow blower to the highest level to do my drive way.
Then when it freezes I will adjust them to the weather we have.

I have a 2014 JD 1025R with a hoe I bought new, had a BX23 prior. I plow my driveway and 4 of my neighbors here in northern Delaware but don’t get a lot of snow. I have a three point hitch plow that I seldom use due to all the driveways are steep. Leaving the hoe on gives better traction. I use my bucket 95% of the time but the problem is the bucket edge is wearing down. Will be welding metal to edge soon. Takes a little longer but I need to pile snow in many places so the bucket works best. Love my 1025R it never lets me down like the Kubota did!

I have a John Deere 2021 2025R with Mauser Cab, Loader Mounted hydraulic blade & rear blade. This set up works well for me on crushed asphalt drive & cement sidewalks. The rear blade is perfect for clearing snow from front of the garage and house. Front blade works very well when the ground is frozen. I find when the ground isn't frozen yet to lightly touch the skid shoes to the ground when plowing. I get less blade tripping that way. Having the JD third function for the hydraulic blade makes it so much easier when plowing. Being able to angle the plow when plowing is very helpful. I was plowing with my 1984 JD 430 (I still have) but having a heated cab and keeping warm & dry is to much fun. Not much snow yet here in South Eastern Michigan... 🙂👍👍👍

My experience with any type of plow shoe is that if the gravel is soft they dig in and pick up gravel. I have found it's best to just not plow all the way to the ground. This means never touching the ground when you plow

Great video and awesome drone work; I subscribed! I bought a 2025R with the bucket, backhoe, and AF10F plow last fall. Unfortunately, all I got was the basic plow (I was a newbie). So, I've had to add the JD top rubber deflector, blade guides, and urethane shoes after purchase. Separately, I bought a GWT 1-1/4" urethane blade along with a couple 1/4" eBay steel plates to do my own custom fit. Lastly, I installed a Summit 3rd Function Diverter and put cylinders on the blade with Meyers hoses. The cylinders and hoses were $250 in total. Note, I don't count the cost of the Summit Diverter because I need that anyway for grapples. So, for $250, I thought it was well worth it to be able to control the blade angle from the cab; plus, my girlfriend said she'd only plow if she could angle the blade remotely! Of course, your use case and mileage may vary; just my 2 cents. PS - we're also in OH (awaiting another good snowstorm).

I have an orange tractor but I would think the method is the same. I have a pinned on loader bucket so I remove the loader. I picked up a used OEM front blade and quick hitch. This blade arrangement allows me to control up, down and angle either way. I also back drag when needed. When plowing I mostly use the float position to reduce the chance of moving stone around unintentionally. I run an OEM rubber cutting edge on the blade and have a ballast box on the 3 point for weight.

1/4 mile driveway in Maine. I have a 60" blower on a 2038r, past few years i wish i had a loader mounted plow cause we just are not getting the snow to need the blower and the one thing you fail to mention about that blade over blower is the front blower is a good bit of work to install and requires removing the loader arms. So pretty much once i put the blower on I do not have a loader until spring. I recently added the edge tamers for my rear box blade and while no where near as good as a blade it does allow me to get the slush and ice off that the blower can not reach.

From someone who has done a lot of snow removal with a 1025R, your comments are spot on. I went back and forth on whether to get the blower or the plow. I ended up with the John Deere frame mounted plow. It is quick, nimble and has a great turning radius and I don't have to worry about the loader curl! The negative is it is not "quick attach" , so it takes more than a minute to get the bucket back on for stacking or relocation of snow. Folks with blowers seem to universally love them. Thanks for the informative video!!

swap out your shoes for a 3 1/2 inch wide caster they will roll over the gravel while holding the blade about a 1inc off the driveway until you get your base and then you can either leave the casters or put the shoes back one

Have been subscribed for a while and enjoy your posts. Thanks. Your video on the snow removal options made me decide to do what I never do, make a comment. I live in northern Wisconsin and, normally, we get a lot of snow. My driveway is about a quarter mile long and is covered with granite along with my yard. Since I moved back to the homestead in 2008 I had been using a lawn tractor with a snowblower. It got the job done, barely, except when getting over 8 inches of wet snow. Thanks to you and a few other TH-cam people a couple of years ago I got a John Deere 1025R. For winter I have the 54 inch snowblower with a back blade on the back. When mother nature cooperates and we start with 2-3 inches of snow I roll that down on the driveway and then, for future snows, the snow blower works great with now stones picked up. I have had a few granite strikes but extremely few. If the snow does build up on me, usually wet snow, I can use the back blade to angle snow to the side then blow away with the snow blower. With normal snow for the year regular plowing would just build up too much for a blade. I do not have a cab so the big disadvantage to the blower is snow blowing back on me when windy. I dress with heavy jacket and snow pants with a towel to wipe off my face. For the number of times a season that this is a problem. I can deal with snow in my face rather than getting a cab. Back blade always there to pull away from other garage or an area I don't want to get in with blower. Sorry this is so long but wanted to tell of my circumstances.

This channel made me buy my 1025R almost 2 years ago and love it. I have the JD 54" blower and it works great other than the front sliding during tighter turns. Another negative is if I want to use the bucket you have to uninstall everything. Have used on neighbor's gravel driveway, just keep playing with the height to not dig up the gravel. Next year going for a back blade on the 3-point to back drag from the garage and other places. I have a 300' paved driveway that expands at the bottom to hold 4 cars going across. Mounting the blower while easy enough does require you to get the shaft to the mid-PTO so you are lying on the ground and the piston bracket with mini shaft is heavy. When I install, I grease the shaft ends heavy and of course hit the fittings on the auger. I use zip-ties to hold the lines from the chute on the front brush guard and feed into the line guides. I recommend lightly greasing the pins that lock the brackets together and the pins that lock the thrower to the bracket as they get sticky. Now if only I can use the backhoe better because damn, I suck at it! At least it is fun to practice, like I was 8 years old again in the sandbox.

I clear about 1.5 mile of gravel road in our neighborhood. We don't get much snow in Cheyenne, WY but we do get wind which can create huge drifts of snow. I have a 1025R with a blower on the front and a rear blade. I mostly use the blade swung around backwards so it doesn't dig into the gravel too much. I usually put the blower in drift mode and then scrape the remainder up wit the blade. I tried just using the bucket when I first got the tractor but quickly figured out that scooping and dumping just wasn't going to be efficient. Yes, the blower was around 5 grand but boy it sounds great when it digs into a drift and throws that snow. (Insert grunting here)

Northern Lower Penninsula in Michigan here. On my 1025r I use Frontier 4-way snowblade and my 48" Frontier Box Blade with the rippers removed. The box blade is the key to a clean driveway, it pushes and pulls the snow. Gravel driveway.

Pretty sure it was you that had a problem with the tilt pins on your blade. Mine were the same design and the road never froze completely. So, my loader mounted snow blade with rotate went back to the dealer and a grapple came home with me. That was for my 2025R which is now relegated for loader bucket with 3 edge tamers snow removal. My X738 is much easier to use in the snow, blade with rubber edge or 54 inch blower.

I have edge tamers for my bucket. Also, my driveway is gravel. The reason I use my bucket is because we don`t get that much snow. My current tractor is a 2025R. I have had since April 2020. I have used it to remove snow 4 times. We do get a big snow once in a while. The last one was in 2018. I used my 1986 John Deere 755 with edge tamers on the bucket to remove that snow. Haven`t had enough snow this year to even need to remove it. I`m in Missouri. Fifty miles west of St Louis.
Curious as to what cab you have on your tractor?

Your comments are correct. I have a blower and box pusher and recently bought a blade. Each attachment has its strengths and weaknesses. I haven’t had my blower on in a couple years. It does work well on my long drive way but it takes to long to switch back and forth. I have had people say that it isn’t an issue to switch. If you switch once for the winter I agree. But I need to switch out multiple times during my plowing event. 😂 understand about the camera I ran over mine last snow storm. Luckily nothing broke. Happy plowing.

Have my JD 1025r just a year now, I have watched and enjoyed your videos (especially "I hailed a cab" as I also installed a Curtis Cab) Just had a neighbor fabricate a front loader mount plow using a 60'' UTV plow, I also went with the Summit Diverter kit. I wasn't looking but came across a TSC 6' back-blade for $100.00 (a bite wide) but found it to work well along with the front plow, also do have edge-tamers on the bucket.

I live in the Lake Erie snow belt. In the past it was nothing to see 200” plus of snow a season. We had 5’ of snow during the Christmas of 17. That was our last big storm.
I have a 22 JD 2025R that I use the bucket to move snow piles. I’m thinking about purchase a front blade and a rear blower to move snow back.
Right now I’m using a 23 Polaris Sportsman xp1000 ultimate trail with a 66” poly. It works very well as long as it isn’t heavy wet snow. And it’s a lot of fun to use!
