And with the exception of some invasive species who need to be culled and never released, as long as you eat what you kill there is NOTHING wrong with killing a fish regardless how big it is. You can catch dozens of gar or gator gar a day in places they thrive in. Just because you not have them up the road from your house who cares don’t be a judgy Karen kunt and in this sick sad day and age any time u post a video of killing anything hunting or fishing there’s always some idiots booing and hating it grow up gar are thriving all over and is nothing wrong with killing and eating them
@@fishncapt26 What doesn't make sense is saying "as long as you eat what you kill there is NOTHING wrong with killing a fish" (which I agree completely with) in relation to bow hunting gar. In theory, I have nothing against bowhunting gar. in practice however, If you've ever tried to bank fish a river where bow hunting gar is popular, then you would know that the vast majority of the hunters just kill them, then leave the carcasses on the bank. At best, drag them 20 ft back. Nothing like fly fishing for bass on a warm summer day, and getting to smell the rotten stink of a bunch of dead gar. That, is a crappy thing to do.

"Look at that clear water!" I've fished most of the Trinity, and wherever you guys were in this video, is probably the clearest I've seen for the Trinity.
I found unusually clear in water in Kingwood 4 days ago, but there were lots of dead fish to be seen at the bottom, some dead bass were over a foot long
Reminds me a bit of me when I was 13 catching a Paddelfish only thing it was one whole lot bigger and took me around a hour to get in... thanks for the cool video, keep fishing brothers , God bless

I was there ! When they pulled that fish out of the river the water level dropped 3 ft . We took a photo of it next to the Statue of Liberty to give you an idea how big it was 🗽🐡
Gar is such an underrated sport fish. I feel like the Trinity River is one of the few places where people actually go out with the intention to catch gar.

Great Fish ! I live in a Dallas suburb. We were boating and skiing in beautiful Lake Bridgeport a few years ago and saw an alligator gar that was much bigger than the one y’all were working with in this video. My friend was skiing , and I was being spotter on the boat, in her wake I saw this Massive head and long torpedo body of a massive gar. It seemed to be also playing in the wake she was making , it kept following her and surfacing about 2 ft behind her, cutting back and forth as she did ! I tried not to let her see my face (haha !) I swear it looked like jaws behind her ! She is 5’7” and 150 lbs, and this thing dwarfed her . Even though I knew it posed no threat to her, I was praying she wouldn’t fall until we got back to the main body of the lake ! We were skiing in finger of the lake that was about 100 ft across, I guess it was its lair ! Just MASSIVE ! DM me if you’d like to know the exact area and I’ll let you know .( Ty only). Man that would epic to see you catch that one! I know another great place too.

These Alligator Gar use to grow 10ft plus in Louisiana from what my grandfather use to tell me. It’s nice to see people treating monsters with respect. One day we will miss them, if we don’t. I’d be interested in catch and release sturgeon on the Suwanee River in Florida.

These fish get so big because their gills allow fish in, whereas most fish only water enters gills and the fish they eat must go through their mouths. There is a separate digestive tract for food that enters the gills and they tend to grow much bigger if they feed this way as a primary source of nutrition.
