Did you forget about Regulus? That's an insult to his importance and relevance in the removal of the story of the best character in the series. He was the one who chopped the arm of Green Girl.... Oh and was alongside Gluttony when Rem got erased.
@@furiousfusion7890 Pretty much synonymous with each other, but Vainglory is an archaic way of saying it. I think in the ReZero subs they say Vainglory, but in the dubs they just say Vanity (because it's easier to say)
It's all within Christianity. The Greek origins is just its similarity to Aristotle's virtues or golden mean (balance between two extremes). Stuff like courage being the balance between the extremes of fear and foolhardy. While both have a list, Aristotle's list is about balance whereas the Deadly Sins are just meant to be avoided entirely. Some added a list of 7 virtues that are each an opposite of the 7 sins, but again, diametrically opposed and mutually exclusive, not a balance. Also worth adding that the whole "deadly sins" thing is extrabiblical (not actually in the Bible). So it's just over time within Christianity the number of "deadly sins" and what they are changed little bits here and there. Melancholy got included with Sloth, Vainglory got included with Pride, and Envy was added. So for a while it was Gluttony, Lust, Greed, Melancholy, Wrath, Sloth, Vainglory, and Pride (8 total) until later it was revised to Gluttony, Lust, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, Pride, and Envy (7 commonly known recognized today).
@@furiousfusion7890 There is no witch of vanity, I suppose you mean Vainglory. Vainglory and Melancholy are from the previous generation. The current 7 that you have seen came after.

to get rid of any confusion: mother Fortuna has a brother (who is also an elf with silver hair) und he has a non elf wife (who appearently doesn´t have silver hair, because Fortuna would phrase it otherwise) and they are the parents of the half elf Emilia.
So, Fortuna says that her brother was Emilia's father, he was a full elf. She calls Emilia's mother her "sister". Since Emilia is a half-elf, and her father is a full elf, her mother must be human. That is why Guese corrects Fortuna and calls her Emilia's mother.

I didn't want to resort to violence, but it wouldn't be proper of me to let this insult go unpunished. The Sin Archbishops came the generation after the Witches. The Witches were one generation and then the Sin Archbishops came later. After each of the witches of the tea party were dead there were new hosts selected for the various authorities (their powers) and they were given new names. The names of each sin and the actual authorities may not even be exactly the same either, so they may have slightly different powers then their predecessors.
Sin Arch-bishops and Witches are the basically the same thing, different names for people who have Witch Factors. Just within the Witch's Cult they refer to Witches as Sin Arch-Bishops.
@Jon Dyre Yes, I'm over simplifying it a lot, just trying to get the idea across that there is not both a Witch of Greed and a Sin Archbishop of Greed in the cult at the same time, etc.
Just fyi, elves are the strongest race aside from the oni race (in the Re;zero universe, which is funny since in most fantasy series elves are nearly never seen with such raw strength). Although that is just because of the near limitless magic usage that an oni can potentially use. Elves are physically superior to them. So even as a child, Emilia probably had the strength of a full grown human man, if not more, which is why she expected the large heavy door to fall from her strength.
I'm along for this ride, but am I the only one who feels like the dubbed lines do not hit the same? It feels like all the characters are just monologuing rather than having a conversation.
There is no incest. Emilia mentions Fortuna as mother because she is her mother-figure. Fortuna only has brother and no sisters. Brother's wife is sister in-law Emilia is half elf, Emilia's unnamed father is elf that means her mother must be human.
regulus corneas is the most powerful archbishop, in fact he is one of the most important villain, pandora the witch of vanity ordered regulus corneas to attack the forest of elior.
It's all a bit complicated but originally there were 8 deadly/capital sins including Vainglory... Pride was then dropped, but now is back replacing Vainglory as they are similar. Vanity (referred to in this episode) is a 'sin' but not a deadly/capital one. It's weird how much Catholicism tries to ignore and hide it's own history as before this show I never knew about this! But then I never studied theology.
I don’t remember it exactly anymore without looking it up, but in Christianity there were once thought to be 6 sins. Later something like 3 were added and 2 were merged with 2 others by the then pope because they were so similar bringing it to the modern 7 deadly sins. Re:ZERO seems to work off of all 9.
I thought the witch cult being a good force that got corrupted was a great realistic touch. Since that’s what happens to 99% of groups in the real world
