I have heard other versions of this song but none compare to the original! He had such a wonderful voice and it is so sad he is no longer with us.

George sang so many really, really beautiful love songs. His voice was that of an angel. There are two that come to me that I think you'll fall in love with. 1st. FOR THE LOVE OF YOU & THE FIRST TIME I EVER SAW YOUR FACE. These always make me feel surrounded in love beautiful love. There are more, however, these are a good start. ENJOY HIS HEART!

This is without any shadow of a doubt the one and only definitive version of this song. There's not a single artist who on their best day could come anywhere close to the mastery of George Michael. As for Arianna Grande, she couldn't be a pimple on his backside.

A lovely reaction. Wham's "Last Christmas" is the biggest selling single never to reach #1 in the UK. As of this year it has clocked up 8 weeks at #2 since first released in 1984 due to downloads and streaming. It was unfortunate that it was released the same week as Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas" in 1984 which turned out to be the biggest selling single in the UK at that time. Wham were stuck at #2 for 5 weeks in 1984/85.

I still cant believe George Michael was gay, he played the man in the relationship with a woman but did not date them.
He did date a few women. Not sure if he was bisexual or just confused.
I don´t like that song..never did....it simply has got no "Christmas vibes" in the lyrics although saled as such..simply because "Christmas" is clearly totally random for the context of the lyrics...it could be also "Last Easter" or "Last Springbreak" simply because the lyrics are not about Christmas at all.
Just replace the word "Christmas" with "Last Summer" instead and it would be a "Summer beach song"..or replace "Christmas" with "Last week, Last month, Last year, Last birthday, or simply any last weekday" it wouldn´t change any context of the lyrics.
Think u missed part of the songs meaning ,Christmas is not jolly jolly all the time his whole feeling was the lamentation of the past relationship in a deep emotional retrospective that comes with Christmas @ the end of the year to reflect on what is gained & what is lost hence the lyrics "this year ill give it to someone special".

That song is about a guy (and his girlfriend) and his friends with their girl friends making Winter holidays. There he met his ex girlfriend who is in a relationship with one of his friends but obviously he didn´t really get over it that she left him. It´s simply a tragic love song...and no Christmas song. He is constantly singing about his ex-girl for god´s sake. I think you are the one who is here missing something.
That painted scenario of the song could also have happened during summer holidays as well. And would Wham have composed and released that song half a year earlier then he would sing "Last summer I gave you my heart but the very next day you gave it away and this year I will give it to someone special." and it would have been a "summer hit" and the video would show a tropical island instead of the winter landscape.
That´s why I wrote in my comment "Christmas" is here in the context of the whole lyrics totally random.
The song is very simple and you don't even understand it. No, Eastern doesn't make sense in this song at all. Christmas is the only holiday we give presents each other. And lyrics are about guy who gave his heart at Christmas to some girl. But she gave it away. It make sense to give presents at Christmas, and it doesn't make sense to give presents at Easter (or summer, month or year).
So although the song is very simple you don't understand it at all, and why it's related to Christmas and people feel that way.
The song doesn't have to be about roasted duck to be related to Christmas,
