I like the idea of a full body next to other mirrors, but you're forgetting one important thing... People who want to rob others... are usually not that bright!
Maybe it's not "all out" but it's effective and looks great. You make it look so easy too - I'm sure if I tried making something like this, it'd be an all-day project and still wouldn't look as good as yours. Haha.
This is great. 2 suggestions- 1) take down the two mirrors on the dresser and put up art. 2) buy a baby magnet lock...this way it won't open without the magnet "key" it will hide the door even more.

I was confused by the threshold when you started doing it. Thought, huh? Why? Then after seeing it completed....Genius! It seriously just looks like a mirror hanging on the wall. Seriously cool!

We’re in the process of building a new home. I put some extra space behind our master closet for exactly this purpose. Will probably be following YOUR method as opposed to paying my contractor to do it! Well done!
Simple but BRILLIANT! If I were breaking into your home, I would never suspect that there was a hidden room behind that mirror! Wonderful job Steve 👍👍👏🏻
Nicely done. I agree either an RFID Lock or a magnetic solenoid lock with a hidden magnet slider would be ideal. And they make a Kevlar Carbon fiber panels (like drywall sheets) that you can buy to line the inside and make it bullet resistant. About $180 to $240 a 4'X 8' sheet. You just screw it to the walls and back of the door. And with some good internal deadbolts you'd have a a nice safe room. And a security camera monitor inside the room would make you golden.
Nicely done, Looks great!! My suggestion would be to move the dresser with the two mirrors on it . Looks disjointed both in color and style. Perhaps remove the dresser mirrors altogether and paint the dresser to match color of hidden door mirror.
What a great job! No one would think of a hidden room there since there's already a walk-in closet. I know someone with a gun safe that size. If it's full, would be extremely difficult to steal. Wish we had space for a hidden room. But I would just hide in it and sew all day. LOL.
Second-best 100% DIY "hidden door" video I've seen on YT so far. It's clean, it's smart, and it looks convincing. I've seen other DIY ones that were just janky AF, or clearly looked like a door, or were just rich dummies who had it slapped in by a pro - who then screwed it up by attaching a bunch of junk to it. But this right here...this is excellent work. (For anybody wondering, the best one I've seen is the hidden office behind the wardrobe video).
Wary enough to build a hidden doorway, yet smart enough to realise the chances of a home invader recognising your mirror/door from TH-cam is practically zero. Several people who have commented don't seem to understand this. Nice job by the way. Well thought out, and great skills.
Rob Calhoun by having what's called a job. Most of us have it so we don't have to live like Kim Kardashian showing everyone everything we own on TH-cam.
You need a magnetic solenoid hidden in the wall, place a metal object over it to open a hidden solenoid door latch. You can put it anywhere in the room. Just put a metal watch band against the right spot and click! Can be tricky and have two places that need a metal object at the same time. thigh with keys in your pocket and watch band on second spot. Magnetic solenoids can be plastered over and painted right into the wall. Contact can be on opposite wall or another room if the door is spring loaded when the solenoid releases it.
If you're watching these comments, may I suggest something? Use a magnetic release lock where you come up to the window door and present a strongish magnet to release a lock mechanism on the other side. Then a strong spring will push the door open a few inches allowing you to open it up. The reason for this? You're leaving finger prints and smudges and other grime on the wall and window frame when you manually open it. The more you do it, the worse it gets. If you clean it off, you risk damaging the material. People will be able to easily see this and wonder what's going on and you risk it being discovered. Just a few ideas. Hope this helps.
It is probably the cheapest if you have a spare closet in a room like me. I looked at full extension slides to do it that way and they were a few hundred for the size and weight needed. Thanks.
Great execution.. definitely something I want to do to my house. One little thing I noticed, you may want to do something with the light switch right next to the mirror. One, ok, maybe a room light.. 2 switches side by side give away the possibility of a hidden room. Perhaps relocate a light switch to just inside the room.
Excellent video and a great idea. I've been working on my thoughts for something like this and you are right. I love the idea of raising up the threshold. It not only makes it look like a regular full length mirror, but it makes it just that harder to pull the safe out. Nice job!
A really great make over Steve. The only thing that looks a bit puzzling is the dresser mirrors? Any way you would switch the bed furniture and dresser-mirror? If I were a burglar, I'd instantly see 3 mirrors on 1 wall and say to myself this must be the loot is. .. behind mirror #1 😏
I don't think that's a problem. The burglar will just think the owner is a narcissist. ;) More seriously, even two waist high mirrors won't show you as much of yourself as a single full-length mirror does.
I really like The idea and how you did it. If it were me I would just remove the mirrors from the dresser. Presentation was good, you were easy to understand and follow but the manikin freaked me out.
Great video! If you don't want to look at that upside down door when you open it, you could get a flat panel door blank from home depot or Lowes for like $30. Just an idea. Thanks for sharing!
Very good! Your safe of course has mounting holes on the back and bottom that you can lag screw to the floor and back wall, into joists and/or studs of course, to secure it! Also, you could add an electric and remote controlled deadbolt to the door further enhancing the secret and secure nature of your little room. Bravo!
Awesome idea... It sure turned out nice. Now just turn it into a into safety room that you could bar yourself in if you'd ever have a home invasion. just add a side bolt on the inside so you could lock yourself in the room... Then you could go all out and install CT cameras throughout your house and have to recorder box and the monitor in your secret room... That would take a lot of work but it could be fun doing it...
That's an interior-grade door. Adding a deadbolt wouldn't do much. You could kick that door and the mirror in easily, even with a deadbolt. You'd have to use a security door of some type, and it would have to be custom made. The security doesn't need to be physical. The security comes from people not finding it.
Besides all of the naysayers in the comments, this is actually a pretty sound idea, mainly because of the door as support. I always think that just a concealment, such as a mirror alone is a joke. But in this case, a good magnetic release lock from the outside, might work. And if you beef up the capability of locking from within, in combination with the fact that this door would be much harder to kick in because it opens out, this would make a nice little temporary safe room as well.
I felt the need for concealment because a safe is a target. That concealment alone provides an extra layer of protection. In Vegas, people like to leave the garage doors open in the summertime. One person had a safe in there for all to see. One day it was gone. Don't advertise.
An added plus is that before your conversion, that part of the area had too many doors. This is a big aesthetic improvement to that corner of the room. Very nice job.
Great video. You did a good job on your install. I have made several secret rooms in different houses, but I dont think any of them were hidden by a mirror. That is a fine idea. I liked it big, big.. Thank you for putting this one out.
I extremely loved this video. First video that looked really doable by myself as a female. I didn't want to drill holes into my concrete basement floors. Great job 👏🏾

You know what. I started watching this thinking "this guy is an idiot messing up a beautiful house" but that end result is amazing! It turned out great
I’ve read many comments about the oddity of having three mirrors on one wall. It’s one full length mirror and to from roughly the waist up. I’m not sure a thief has the time or mental capacity, while in a rush to get in and get out, to take such a in depth observation on his interior design.lol Also, it’s not suppose to be strong enough to keep them out, but creative enough to keep them from paying any mind to it. GREAT job and cost effective. Now move the safe cause everybody knows. 👀
Ha ha. If you watch the video after this one I did opt to remove the mirrors. I don't really keep a lot in there of value. I'm just a responsible gun owner having had kids in my home in the past.
Clever you. I would install a lock to make it a panic room as well and install a LAN line if you ever had to call the police. With a LAN-line, they'll know automatically where you live. Nice job.
"Land line", aka POTS - Plain Old Telephone Service. Not Local Area Network (LAN). If you do add a POTs line, make sure you have the NID installed in the garage or in a crawl space, otherwise someone can cut the line.
Lyon Still / That's just what i was thinking. I've found someone in my home ,when i came in, and lately someone trying to get in. Drugs in the area. I nearly had a heart attack. OMG. I WANT HAND GRENADES NOW. AND A BUNKER. HA
Give me hand grenades now. And a shot gun with several rounds. Plus what i have already. Ha. take no chances, leave no one alive. Im fed up. We have a right to a peacefully life.
Awesome job! You kept it simple and it works! I would have added one more hinge, just for the weight and maube two more magnetic catches (top and bottom) as redundancy (that's just me). I love what you did with the threshold too. Brilliant! Thank you for inspiring me. It makes a great panic room as well. Have you checked to see if Light bleeds through when light is on, from inside bedroom? Maybe gluing felt strips on back of door, near rim could block out light. In these trying time, you just never know how useful such a room could prove to become. It could actually save your life, should riots get out of hand.
Very nice! I like how you raised the threshold! Im going to incorporate that idea on my upstairs landing closet I’m hiding with a large mirror. I’m using Soss invisible hinges though.
Nice video, great job. I knew I wanted to watch this when you said "..if you were married, which I'm not.." ...it was at this point, I knew you were (are) a very smart man...
Love it! Could double as a panic room, although I’d have a panic room with a window in case of an intentionally set fire. Anyway, I’ve made hidden spots for firearms, but yours is the best!
Yo man that was awesome! Ima do one for me! Btw I do support the idea of removing the other two mirrors and get a better magnet! Other than that looks great! Good job! Thanks for sharing
Super DIY project! Much appreciated. First class hidey hole but as for a panic/safe room, apart from all the extra add ons you would have to do it’s just in the wrong place😂😂 stay safe, regards from deepest Dorset England 👍
Best thing about this is if your house is being robbed, you can hide in there while calling the police and the robbers would be in for quite a surprise.
yours makes more sense than a few others I've seen. If it was me the mirrors on the dresser are redundant and make it a little more obvious, I'd remove those. Also, I've seen a lock that acts uses a magnet to unlock it.
I have like... 3 different areas I want to do this to. "Can you get me the toilet cleaner?" "Where is it?" "Go to the library and 'read' Of Mice and Men..."
I don't know if you have completed this or not? But it just hit ME one day when I was building the same exact thing in my study. I plan on using those electronic bracelets they use to lock Hornady pistol box locks! Mount them inside..and only the wearer CAN open it! Anyone else would HAVE to BREAK into it!! Yet if you need something in it..you wave your arm by it..and pop..it's open! You could add a more secure lock to it as well for vacations, etc.. Good luck to you pal. Great idea, and great video!!
I would remove the two dresser mirrors and hang a picture instead. Too many mirrors look suspicious and strange. 😉

To keep from being bored, you'll need internet access too. Then some munchies, some water, maybe a small comfy chair, then add.....
Im fed up. We have a right to a peacefully life.
life.
I had a dream about this. Having a room within a room, hidden behind a mirror.
I’ve never seen a mirror in my dreams before
I don't think that you're supposed to see mirrors in your dreams that odd-
I searched for this because I wanted my future house to have a hidden room behind a big mirror in the library
“That one I’d call the wife’s closet if I was married, but I’m not.” *Breathing intensifies*
Should get a RFID deadbolt lock.
The you can use your phone or key card to lock it.
Yeah, radio signals, no way to detect that.
@@armanflint you are probably trying to hide from the criminal bad guys, not the FBI bad guys with their fancy gear.
I doubt the FBI or other alphabets are looking for RFID Readers in a house they're going to search.
You have a lot of mirrors now lol 😂😂
Yep a lot
He's single and hot, I bet they come in handy!! lol
Yo man that was awesome! Ima do one for me! Btw I do support the idea of removing the other two mirrors and get a better magnet! Other than that looks great! Good job! Thanks for sharing
For smaller hidden safe places here are some good ideas. Fake wall plug, air vent, or for guns a floor case hidden by the fireplace hearth.
Very nicely done! Very clean as well! Excellent job you did there!
Super DIY project! Much appreciated. First class hidey hole but as for a panic/safe room, apart from all the extra add ons you would have to do it’s just in the wrong place😂😂 stay safe, regards from deepest Dorset England 👍
All I have to say is...... this would be useful in the purge 😐🤷♀️
Dark._Stars._
😂
After doing some due diligence on YT, I'm gonna shoot into all of the mirrors when I'm invading homes from now on!

Who’s else si watching this 2 years later 🙋🏽♂️ 2020😂
Chris raya me.
Yep !!
Me 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏻♀️
I have to jump on the band wagon

Add some latches on the inside and cameras, you could also use it as a panic room.
That was great. Excellent job. Now I'm going to need to convince my wife we need one of these rooms too.
This is so well done! I can’t believe those hinges support the weight of the mirror!
This is awesome!! I love your idea
0:47 If you were married, you would probably be calling that one wife's closet too
HOW ABOUT BUILD A SECRET ROOM IN A SECRET ROOM FOR YOUR NEXT PROJECT?
I mostly like your Explorer and 4runner videos, but this one was outstanding!
This is a great solution to having anyone be able to see you have a safe in your closet! Awesome
Thx
Great job!!!
Just subbed and I’m loving these videos!
🎤... And my secret room's no secret anymore.
Yea but anyone who know "this guy" will know his secret room too.
Well done music reference! Lol
Noeraldin Kabam 😂😂😂
KuruKuruGorilla do you see the liberty safe? C'mon...
Taylor 😂😂😂👌🏼
If I could work as fast as this guy I would have my whole house remodeled in less than a week. ;-) Nice job!
I fully agree with your thinking of concealing the room!! Very smart idea and very well put together. How are the hinges and frame holding up???
Best thing about this is if your house is being robbed, you can hide in there while calling the police and the robbers would be in for quite a surprise.
- Then he comes out guns a-blazing and goes Rambo on them.
Doh. Thus, a Secret Room - not a Hide a Safe Room.
family tea and lots of yarn.
And a crap bucket
While that happened robbers will use sound detactor to hear it
What if robbers robs the mirrors?😂
3 mirrors in a row? Hmm. I'll take #1 for the cash
AL BUNDY yeah too many mirrors in the room is give way
Omg.. i love it. Well done 🤗😍
I have watched almost all of your stuff and I am convinced you can do anything.
yours makes more sense than a few others I've seen. If it was me the mirrors on the dresser are redundant and make it a little more obvious, I'd remove those. Also, I've seen a lock that acts uses a magnet to unlock it.
I think the puppet explains you being single. Dat shit was creepy bro. The hidden door was awesome, nicely done.
I have like... 3 different areas I want to do this to. "Can you get me the toilet cleaner?"
"Where is it?"
"Go to the library and 'read' Of Mice and Men..."
You live in that house by yourself?
袁子盁 Gold digging much?
I don't know if you have completed this or not?
But it just hit ME one day when I was building the same exact thing in my study. I plan on using those electronic bracelets they use to lock Hornady pistol box locks! Mount them inside..and only the wearer CAN open it! Anyone else would HAVE to BREAK into it!!
Yet if you need something in it..you wave your arm by it..and pop..it's open!
You could add a more secure lock to it as well for vacations, etc..
Good luck to you pal. Great idea, and great video!!
Hi very cool Steve! Thanks for showing us.
