Making a tactical walls inspired concealment mirror

  • Ever wanted a safe hidden behind the mirror? Me too. This project isn't as much about keeping the safe secret as much as it is keeping dangerous items away from the kids. It's also not where I store my valuables. I wouldn't put something like that on the internet. This is just one more line of defense for the household in a way that keeps everything out of sight in the awesomest way possible.

A few people have asked me about the hinges I used. I used four of these European style hinges.

*This is not a "safe". It's basically a cabinet that you would have to physically break into to get to its contents. This won't keep your valuables safe but it does keep people from sneeking into it. Please don't confuse this with a proper safe.

Kids don’t really care what you’re working on. Just as long as you’re doing it together. My nephew even liked helping unclog drains. He was helping and got a sense of accomplishment. Now he does all kinds of DYI projects. Proud of him. He’s a hard worker.

The hardest part is not being able to pick up the phone and call him when I have a problem with my electrical, plumbing, car, it just seems like that he knew you had to fix everything no matter what it was he never called anybody to do work at our house he did everything. And like I said the part I miss the most is just been able to pick up the phone and call him and ask him how to fix the problem. Sorry for your loss man. I feel it.

@@heygetoffmylawn1572 I just typed out a message for you and it vanished. I was telling you about my sister passing away too. 11 months ago. I hate it when that happens. She had end stage Cancer when she found out. It was to late. I pretty much raised her. Taught her all the little things in life. Like how to tie her shoes, wash her hands, eat with a fork. You get the picture. 3 Days before she dies I CAME DOWN WITH double pneumonia. I woke up in an ICU Unit with a machine breathing for me. Found out she had died while I was in a coma. Her youngest daughter told me how it all went down. So you can imagine . This last year 2019 was nothing but bad stuff happen. Niece said she was screaming and fighting all the way up to the end. I wish I could have been there. I would have made hospice sedate her. So, she could pass peacefully. She was so frightened of dying. Stuff been eating me up. Now I'm the baby of the family. You know... I still can't cry. I sure need some closure. I tried. I relly did. Went and bought a new truck just soI could drive to Missouri to bring her to Texas and live with me. Had Hospice all set up for hr. I just never planned on me getting sick. Sucks...............................................

    Aspiring craftsman my foot !
    1. Superb fit and finish.
    2. Very nice garage shop.
    3. Best looking helper I have ever seen.
    4. Darn good videography.
    5. Not one second of time was repetitive jabber or stupid graphics.
Taking into consideration all of the above I do believe this is the best video I have ever run across on the internet.
Now, I will admit the fact that this craftsman looks like my son did 30 years ago and the “craftsman’s” assistant is about the age of my beautiful great granddaughter may have slightly influenced my objectivity.

This is so awesome, man. It's one thing to build a cool concealed safe behind a mirror, but it's a whole thing to do it all properly with nice varnish on the wood, paint on the studs under the wood even though nobody sees them, nice clean walls around the safe in the closet where almost nobody will see, putty between the edges of the drywall, etc. You did really great work here. I'm pretty envious of this project. I wish I had carpentry chops like yours.
And your daughter is absolutely adorable. The true star of the show!

30+ yrs in the industry and this makes me smile.. to see (I'm assuming) a cabinet maker working his way through a carpentry project. Both are very specialized skill sets and two distinctly different crafts that most lump into one category. But the truth is, most carpenters can't build cabinets and vise versa.. for myself, I was a commercial and residential carpenter for 20 some yrs before I was any good at building custom cabinets. I had installed more than I could count but custom built is and was a whole other dimension that requires a completely different set of tools and way of thinking. So kudos my man. I'll hold any critique and just say.. Respect! the finished product speaks for itself.

Better watch out having that little girl around while you do all that. She might learn to take direction and pay attention to her surroundings. Next thing you know she’ll be designing and building and using math .... you know... self-sufficient kind of stuff.
And she’ll never smell fresh sawn wood without remembering the love of her Daddy. Great job!

Obligatory /s. I love having my kids around. I started teaching my daughters respect for firearms at 7. At 10, they get their first trip to the shooting range.
