      We can snap automation using the shortcut cmd+option+fwdslash in protools.
      Is there something similar to that in cubase or nuendo?

      Hi - thanks for a great video. Is there a way to vertically zoom in on the automation so that you don't end up making minute adjustments to a flat line (same as the tempo track where you can have the automation between a max / min value? Cheers

      Thank you for this useful video. Once you have automated a mix, how can you lower the entire mix by the same amount preserving the automation but also lowering the channels that don't have any? Thanks!!!

      And I’m back again a year later to relearn the features I haven’t yet used because you’re so clear and quick. You should get a deal with Steinberg for tutorial videos with links in their manuals (especially as their manuals are at best incomplete and at worst confusing!). Thanks again!

    Awesome video like everything of yours . There is just one point missing . "Touch" mode in volume automation doesn't work as it should at least for the first pass. Fader unfortunately doesn't come back to the previous "initial" value unless you'll use a "workaround" to insert manually an automation point - value at the end of the track you want to be automated . Same is true for the trim automation . It's not a fault of yours . It is just how Cubase is working for so many years ( Nuendo is not the case for some reason ! ) . To be more clear : Touch mode NEEDS to see a value in the timeline ( the initial one or whatever ) AFTER the part you want to be automated to behave correctly ( so it makes sense to go and put it at the end ) ... As of today ( a bug with C13.0.1 ? ) you'll need to insert 2 automation points - the first at the start and the second one at the end of the track - seems like something "broke" even to the workaround ? ) ... Everything above of course is irrelevant if you just use your mouse / trackball to "draw" automation but using a fader is a different story altogether.

      Now that you mention this I did notice this behavior later on. Good addition 👍.

    Great, thank you! The tip that you can reduce existing automation data after recording or importing it by editing or recording new data to that automation lane is very helpful if you have automation data that is too complex for what is needed. I was searching for the function "reduce automation data" for ages and it doesn't seem to exist (anymore) or only in Nuendo

    Excellent explanation. I have a question. Is there a way for the automation to be guided by the audio transient. I think of it to automate, for example, reverbs that follow the dynamics of a voice. Thanks

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Interesting question you’re asking. I have never done that actually and nothing comes to mind right now apart from using third party plugins for this. You could e.g. generate an automation track from waves Vocal Rider and then apply that automation to a different parameter (in your reverb). But if someone comes up with another option, do tell 😎.

    It may be a bit esoteric, but any video you care to do about setting up MPE instruments and editing MPE data would be appreciated. I’ve been setting up an MPE instrument in various DAWs and Cubase is one of the harder ones to get operational…

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just loop the section between left and right locator and use touch mode. Then you only add automation where you touch the control and the rest remains the same. Or is that not what you meant?

    Automation is the single most complex, and often inscrutable, function of a mixer. That was true on hardware mixers and only became worse with DAWs. When a function you use for easily half of all your work involves setting of 30-40 parameters constantly, throughout the process, the application designer has failed badly.
    My work is virtually all in Pro Tools but the general rules apply to Cubase as well. We’ve taken the time to anticipate many actions to ease the burden of mixing, mostly in the domain of DSP processes. Even more time should be devoted to this wretched excess of controls to do our main job of mixing. Console designers worked much harder toward this goal than any DAW maker.
    Certain changes follow each other logically and predictably enough to program them to change themselves. To me, that is a no-brainer. Again, if 30-40 choices need to be made? FAIL. Give the mixer hardware intelligence. Not artificial intelligence, but carefully considered intelligence to take giant leaps we make all the time, for us.

      What would you like to see changed to Cubase's handling of automation specifically?
