I am guessing that there can't possibly be a million mobile phone manufacturers all over the world that are competing against each other becoz otherwise, the world will be flooded with all these brands and 80% of them can't even make it through halfway due to the stiff competition around the globe, each phone maker competing to capture a larger portion of the market in order to survive. So it doesn't make sense that unheard of or unknown brands whose technological know how we are not even familiar with, are proliferating side by side with Samsung and Apple and several reputable Chinese brands, and yet are able to manufacture and enter the competition. It doesn't make sense UNLESS...what we are seeing here, representing the unknown or unheard of brands, are simply REBRANDED prototypes manufactured by the bigger and more established firms, prototypes that didn't quite make it to the grade (or standards of the flagship company) but aren't worth throwing out the window what with the research and manufacturing costs that were pumped into it. The solution? REBRANDING. Rebrand it as such and such with budgets or prices affordable and within the means of common everyday, less techy and less discriminating people, and make it look like a bang for the buck. The gadget sells one way or the other and voila! the manufacturer breaks even with the costs spent on it. Expenses recouped, all the prototypes have been sold, just a few unsold units, it's time to phase it out and let it disappear from the market. This is a brilliant marketing strategy that I'm sure some of you may be familiar with. Some call it "recycling", some call it "setting up a starter company" (under the shadow of a more established firm which is interested in the starter's research and development and it's output). And how does this affect consumers like you and me? Well, for one thing, the only advantage we get out of it is the "lesser expense incurred" on buying a supposed "excellent" product - the illusion of a "bang for the buck". Any consumer who's familiar with business operations (and it's architecture) knows that the only reason tech like this becomes cheaper and more accessible to common folks like us is that the firms use the formula known as "trade off". At the rate of letting an expensive tech reduce it's market price, a trade off or 'compensation' is done via the technical aspects so that the company doesn't completely lose profit by selling cheap. Catch the drift? So basically, I am suspecting here that these mid-range budget phones are just that - mid-range and budget in their specs and performance. Could not make the flagship grade and get sold off as a mid-range budget phone with "fabulous specs" by flagship manufacturers but using "rebranded" names. This is just one hypothesis, and I'm sure there are many other hypotheses out there, but if this practice allows the development of a much bigger and more profitable market based on mid-range and budget phones, who knows, maybe we all stand to benefit from it.
