Seven young talented drummers who knew each other from the Basler Fasnacht and jointly cultivated the traditional Basel drumming, founded the group Top Secret in 1991. They wanted to play more than just carnival drum marches and began to mix the traditional Basel drumming style with other drum types as well as adding visual effects. This unique idea and the passion of the seven drummers quickly lead to national and international success.
Top Secret received an invitation to perform in the 2003 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland. In order to participate in Edinburgh, new drummers had to be recruited and trained to enlarge the group so that they could develop a marching show for the first time.
Since 2003 the drum corps went on to travel the world, from Russia to Canada, Australia to the Unites States, from South Africa to China and all over Europe. There have also been further performances at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2006, 2009, 2012 ,2015, 2018 and 2022. Their exciting performances are well known for their precision, humour and thrilling tempo. Even Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II couldn’t hide her smile when the Drum Crops performed for the Platinum Jubilee Celebration 2022 at Windsor Castle.
With twenty-plus years of passion, imagination and dedication, these top Basel drummers have proven themselves to be a sustainable world-class act.

I'm a big drum and bugle corp enthusiast, I feel I can see excellence when it is there. I even played in a couple corps while in the Air Force. This group far exceeds anything I have seen as far as talent and unison. They work together so well and each of them complements the other players. The amount of practice and dedication these people have to their talents far exceeds any mistake you might see but that, in itself, is a rarity.

I've never seen a unit perform the "duel" with more than two. I would love to see that up close - the choreography is stunning. The precision required to keep organized chaos from turning into real chaos, and then returning that many people into a tight formation without missing a beat ... wow.

My son is a snare in a quad a hs.

  • @Jskew
    @Jskew ปีที่แล้ว +11

So what really blows my mind is that they give you so many costume decisions that would give away ANY single mistake. White on black, the lines taped on the sticks, the huge feathers for head movement. That is what amazes me you wont catch a single error from anyone even with all of that opportunity. That's why while the fire was entertaining two flags and one drummer didn't ignite properly so it became very obvious. Their performance was flawless it just stuck out in the dark what was missing for that part of it.

Great Reaction for this Uber impressive Swiss Drum Corps. At 2:25 most people don't realize how difficult it is to maintain perfect rhythm & synch while marching sideways around in a circle. Flawless & with the color guard, it had a kinetic effect. They couldn't even see their feet! I can't imagine the endless hours & weeks these guys put in to perfecting their craft? I wish they'd do s US Tour? I would be first in line for my tickets! ☺️

When the snare line shouts, "..Top Secret!", they're the only guys the cameras typically show. Do the bass drums & color guard join in, or is it exclusively the snare guys?

Rudiments, Rudiments, Rudiments. ...And dare I say it again, Rudiments.
A day (or weekend) well spent is to attend a DCI (Drum Corps International) competition, or BOA (Bands Of America) Super Regional competition. The percussion sections of these bands are just phenomenal. BOA are high school age, And DCI range from high school age up to 24 (iirc). Not QUITE the caliber of Top Secret corps, but these young folks are not far from it. (do some googling... Seasons for both entities will be coming up during the fall months.)

Standing in the middle of it and soaking it all in could sometimes bring this old 70's-80's era drum line band kid to tears.

just be aware thgatwhen they are rubbuing around like that those drums weigh about 25lb each and are on hard mopunts which keep them level. The reason the crossovers work so well is because all the drums are at the exact same height no matter the height of the drummer. They are all approximately the same height so it is something thatis not that difficult but it does take lots of practice when i was in DCI we would practice 3 days a week in the winter plus a full weekend camp once a month then in the summer it was expanded to 6 or 7 days a week once we were all out of school we got on a coach waved good bye to our parents and were back on labour day to go home so for the summer we would practicew 7 days a week about 15 hr a day unless we were competing then it was only a 7 hr practice day the only days we did not practice were travel days but even then we would have drum pads with us to practice on the coach so we never really had a day off and carrying those drums for that long everyday gets you in shape at least plus being out in the sun everyday I always had a great tan by the end of the summer

Top Secret and The Blue Devils got together a few years back. You should check that out.

Top secret put the blue devils to shame with precision. It’s not really what they play, it’s how perfectly they play it. That’s why they’re they best

@@p00piter1. That was not the real blue devils. It was an international version of the line with not as good players involved
      2. I’m sure the “blue devils” had minimal time to learn the top secret cadence. Also the reason they learned theirs was because it’s much easier to play.
      3. Top secret doesn’t even play their music well. They are visually very clean and look great but they sound like dogass.

@@p00piter You have got to trolling. Top Secret could never play what the Blue Devils play. Would love to see them try, they didn't in that video, BD learned their basic book probably on the flight over there. Top Secret play at about the level of a decent high school band, where the Blue Devils are world class. You are trolling, or completely ignorant.

@@TopDrumCorps There are high school bands who play better than Top Secret do in the video which has a billion views, but Top Secret's drums light up.
