Seven young talented drummers who knew each other from the Basler Fasnacht and jointly cultivated the traditional Basel drumming, founded the group Top Secret in 1991. They wanted to play more than just carnival drum marches and began to mix the traditional Basel drumming style with other drum types as well as adding visual effects. This unique idea and the passion of the seven drummers quickly lead to national and international success. Top Secret received an invitation to perform in the 2003 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland. In order to participate in Edinburgh, new drummers had to be recruited and trained to enlarge the group so that they could develop a marching show for the first time. Since 2003 the drum corps went on to travel the world, from Russia to Canada, Australia to the Unites States, from South Africa to China and all over Europe. There have also been further performances at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2006, 2009, 2012 ,2015, 2018 and 2022. Their exciting performances are well known for their precision, humour and thrilling tempo. Even Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II couldn’t hide her smile when the Drum Crops performed for the Platinum Jubilee Celebration 2022 at Windsor Castle. With twenty-plus years of passion, imagination and dedication, these top Basel drummers have proven themselves to be a sustainable world-class act.
I was a bass drummer at Military Academy in the early 80s. I know how many hours and hours of practice this takes. These fellas are absolutely incredible.
I'm a big drum and bugle corp enthusiast, I feel I can see excellence when it is there. I even played in a couple corps while in the Air Force. This group far exceeds anything I have seen as far as talent and unison. They work together so well and each of them complements the other players. The amount of practice and dedication these people have to their talents far exceeds any mistake you might see but that, in itself, is a rarity.
I've never seen a unit perform the "duel" with more than two. I would love to see that up close - the choreography is stunning. The precision required to keep organized chaos from turning into real chaos, and then returning that many people into a tight formation without missing a beat ... wow.
My son is a snare in a quad a hs. They practice at 616 am to school and then nights, and march all weekend most of the year . This , and they only came in third in states . This is a whole different ball game of skill and joy . Love it
So what really blows my mind is that they give you so many costume decisions that would give away ANY single mistake. White on black, the lines taped on the sticks, the huge feathers for head movement. That is what amazes me you wont catch a single error from anyone even with all of that opportunity. That's why while the fire was entertaining two flags and one drummer didn't ignite properly so it became very obvious. Their performance was flawless it just stuck out in the dark what was missing for that part of it.
I've enjoyed this excellent group for years. Outstanding musicianship and choreography. I especially appreciate the tasty work by the flags. I am a drummer and marched as a flag bearer in the Michigan Marching Band.

You should check out the Blue Devils and Top Secret Drum Corp practice in an empty airplane hanger. The reverb is insane and it’s fun to see how each corp practices and the differences in style and how they later get together and work as a team.
