I can remember adapting a spoked wheel for a late model sidecar for an hd so, the bike could still use the ring gear for reverse
They(HD) had a goofy reverse setup using a starter motor and an extra battery.
Iirc, I had to cut half an inch off the hub. It was nice having equipment at hand. I miss doing it.

I never had a lathe i would just lightly clamp it and mesaure on 4sides to center it
