Sometimes, when I need to be somewhere else, anywhere else, I find myself with you. And I'm transported to a new place, far from here, and the worries are gone.
So, dear sir: Mendelssohn, because characters from Midsummer's Night's Dream. Holst, because Uranus ("The Magician") And Stravinsky because the Right of Spring is supposed to reflect the "cracking of the ground in spring, when the frozen earth moves due to the deep frost melting", like what happened to those moons. Very, very, very clever. And made the heart of this classical musician glad!
I know that Neptune and Triton are more interesting for science, but I am fascinated by the Uranian system. I wish it would be possible for me to travel and stand on Titania one day! Thanks for a wonderful video.
Hey Parallax, since a few people are mentioning sound, music and level issues, let me just give you a practical hint when it comes to sound business: a compressor. Very handy for automatically regulating/squashing/pumping up sound levels. After binge watching your entire channel in two days, i will now patiently wait for what's next :) Thank you for a great time!
Really a well- written, wittily-written script, vivaciously-delivered. Excellent use (and unexcessive) of memes. Thoroughly enjoy the distant history and the survey of recent scientific thinking. Just fun and informative.
Damn dude, your gonna definetly make it big eventually. I fucking love this channel. I really like how long they are. A+ again my friend. Likes on here and Facebook.
Thank you, that was amazing. Each decade I find myself constantly just dismayed that we are not sending any other missions out to the ice giants. I think there is much we can learn from them, our one brief flyby just seems like a taste in an otherwise gorgeous meal.
Neptune has fascinated me and held my attention captive from the first time I saw the Voyager images as a child. It’s beauty overwhelmed me and caused my young mind to explode with thoughts about things like How does it look like earth, What is like there, Can I ever go there in person ect....albeit some of theses questions were fueled by my adolescent imagination, they unlocked the Love and Passion for all things related to astronomy and changed my life forever. Because of how much of my life today is tied to that love of astronomy, I feel an eternal bond to Neptune....I remember watching Star Trek the Next Gen and thinking “I hope they go to Neptune, or I wonder if the Federation has an outpost on Triton”.....I love talking to people about what thing or things sparked their fascination with our solar system. I’m 36 today and haven’t found many “Neptunians” such as myself, but I’m not giving up on my search....haha....................By the way, Saturn and Jupiter are Overrated (obviously just kidding. Call it a bit of “Lack of Neptune attention envy”)
Brilliant, Awe inspiring, the amount of time and research it must take to produce such a comprehensive and we'll balanced program is mind boggling to me. These videos eclipse anything of a similar nature. I would love for these to reach the mainstream public .A really big thank you for enlightening us on all of these subjects.
john murray I helped him with one bit of research from a Facebook request. Spent an hour on it and I reckon I influenced maybe a sentence and a half.. Heaven knows what work he puts into each episode...
The music throughout most of the video, while fitting & appropriate, seems to get a bit to loud, almost to the of not being able to understand what you are saying; specifically this happens twice, at about 12:00 & 23:30. Still, perhaps I could use a better pair of headphones.
When you look at the evidence of Triton's mass vs. the mass of all other objects orbiting Neptune, it's obvious that Neptune didn't capture Triton -- Triton captured Neptune, and then proceeded to evict or destroy all of Neptune's natural satellites that it could get its hands on. "My planet, no can has."
As a lover of astronomy every since I was a boy, when for Christmas I'd ask Santa for books on astronomy (no doubt my parents thoroughly loved this early development), ParallaxNick has showed me more new (to me), comprehensive information on the bodies of our solar system than I have encountered in decades.
And the Paul brothers get billions of views 😧 kids should be learning something about history and the universe instead of that crap. I love your channel man, keep it up and hopefully we can reach some of them kids.
Enjoyed this immensely, music in background needs to be kept below voice level throughout as a few times it is too loud and a distraction. Well done squire
Absolutely love this series. Keep it up! Oh, and what's the story on the channel name change? I almost missed the last video because I didn't know about the switch.
this is a great channel. smart, well written script. great detailed information presented at an approachable pace. interesting content presented by a knowledgeable person who has obviously done enough research. funny and relevant graphics. I could watch all your videos in a row. I can't believe you only have 8k subs
love the music! yes the cuts are abrupt and weird but still rather this than nothing.. man i love this channel so much, i wish i could donate my audio production services somehow.
I just really want to see another probe to Uranus and Neptune, they're very fascinating and seem to have been forgotten. An orbiter (and lander) for Triton would be great.
Absolutely wonderful. I love the depth and thoroughness of your research and it's very good to see another video from you. By the way, the music doesn't bother me at all - normal quiet background music.
A dedicated mission (say a couple of large probes and a few cubesats) to each of the Ice Giants could keep researchers busy for tge rest of their lives.
My wish list includes: - 2 Cassini-like mission to Uranus and Neptune - 6 MRO-like missions to Io, Europa, Titan, Enceladus, Triton and the Pluto Charon system: orbiters yielding high resolution cartography - 4 Rovers on Mercury, Io, Europa and Ganimede. If all space agencies united It could be done :(
Halfway through this one and the music is so loud and distracting I'm having to rewind (age reveal, I know) which is not ideal. It would be great if you could re-release this with the music down 3+db. Thanks.
How it this guy on TH-cam wih 34k subs produce more entertaining documentaries from his home than NationalGeorgaphic does with millions of dollars for film budget?
Sorry to burst your rather Macabre analogy but: Graben does not mean "Grave" in German, the word you are thinking of is "Grab." There is a German word "Graben" but it means "Ditch," which is somewhat less otherwordly.
That's been suggested by posters on my episodes before (I think mainly due to how much Titan dominates the Saturnian system) but it's unlikely. Titan doesn't act like a captured object; it has a prograde, flat, circular orbit as would be expected for a moon that formed with its planet, and it doesn't look like one- besides Ganymede and maybe Callisto, there is nothing in the Solar System even remotely as big as Titan that isn't a planet. Also, Saturn isn't in a particularly populated part of the Solar System so it's difficult to see what Titan could have been captured from.
Great video, I loved the narration and music! Just one thing though, on 19:15 it says no orbiter is likely. What about the Uranus orbiter and probe proposal in development for a mid 2030s launch?
What I don't understand the sun's light doesn't have much influence on those far away moons and planets bu they still are influenced by the sun's gravity. Either we don't understand light or we don't understand how gravity works
🥔 👏👀 *! BRAVO !* I do however, think your theory on Miranda is a bit off the mark. In my estimation the retardation of the moon (you may want to write this down) was caused by ionic fields in the zotaic mineral culdorumn which is having a stratifying effect on the coronae from interaction with the stretching plasmadic filaments from the other moons. You were close in that the big tear is just a leftover toothmark from a teething baby Tiamat.
I love this channel! To my knowledge you really are the only one talking about moons and other objects that most astronomers & cosmologists won't even touch! And what a fucking waste! Excuse my language but it kind of pisses me off!
What's with the music? It's far too loud for the low volume levels of your narration. Why does your accent take on more and more of a haughty British tune with each video?
The soundtrack was an experiment I have not retried. As to my accent, well it's just what happens to American accents if they've been stranded in the UK for long enough.
I agree with Celtic whisperer.... Ignore the requests for background music... It is only needed to distract viewers from the fact that a videos content sucks. Therefore your videos do not need the distraction!😁
A happy medium would be to have it fade out after a couple of minutes like marking chapters of a book. I feel a bit silly like a child critiquing the box his gift came in because that's the level of his comprehension. 🎁 🧐
Maybe it's me - I can listen to people talk, I can listen to music but I can't do both at the same time. I would love to watch this video - I find astronomy interesting. If you were to also upload a music free version I'd watch it for sure. Failing that, subtitles would be nice so I could kill the sound and still follow what's going on.
Tenebrous is an adjective. “Tenebrously” is not a word. You do this at least once a video, misuse a word fancy enough to send most of us to the dictionary.
This channel is like reading a most excellent book that never ends. Thank you Nick!
What I love so much about your videos is how much you seem to love what you are talking about.
Love Stravinsky 's Rite of Spring in backround😀
this channel is really under watched

Nick I absolutely love your channel I've watched almost every one of your videos
Looove this video series. But that outro track was way too loud.

I like the background music, but you have it WAAAAAAY too loud my man.
Yeah and try fading it out when you switch to another song. That will grately enhance the video!
The outro music was 'rip headphone users'. The rest is fine but can use some finessing.
Yeah great video but agreed the music was to loud.

Rite of spring works really well for ice giant stuff! (def a bit loud sometimes!) Great stuff, worth the wait :)

No we don't. There's evidence, here and there, but nothing conclusive.

love the videos :)
Your background music is delightful as are the videos. But that way this music is a tad distracting though your taste is very good.
just a minor point of order..It's James Naismith..not Neismith

musics a bit loud
Yeah I kinda screwed up the sound on that one.
If I had a choice, no background music.
10:51 Rite Of Spring incoming.
"Graben" does not mean "grave", but "trench". "grave" is "Grab" in German. The verb "to dig" is "graben" too.

Love your videos, but not the music haha
Graben more accurately means trenches. That's what they were going for, not graves.
4:28 The reason you clicked this video 😉
"Graben" does not originate from the German word for "grave", "Graben" is the German word for "ridge", or "canyon"
Love the video, thought the music unnecessary
That's why I don't use it anymore
What's with the music? It's far too loud for the low volume levels of your narration. Why does your accent take on more and more of a haughty British tune with each video?

MUSIC IS LOUD
AND SUCH DISTRACTION
CAN YOU FIX IT
Not to worry. Humans will consume both Triton and Neptune as we build out our Dyson Sphere.
Came here to see if there were any "don't moon uranus at me" jokes. Were disappointed.
I pronounce "Uranus" as "Urine-us" precisely to avoid jokes like that :-)

Sheesh. People ask for background music, then complain when I put it in. :-(

Why is it not a word? Las time I checked, adding "ly" to adjectives to make them adverbs is standard practice in our mutual language.
